A Night Soaked With You - Chapter 36
‘She’s crying again.’
The sight of Yeong-won sobbing suddenly caused Tae-geon to sit up.
By coincidence, it seemed that every time Tae-geon met Yeong-won, he ended up witnessing her tears.
Each time he saw that, something about it unsettled him. It was like his heart was becoming dampened.
It felt as though he were in a nightmare, and Tae-geon reached out to wake her up.
In that instant, her eyelashes fluttered, and her clear brown eyes appeared.
Tae-geon’s hand froze in mid-air. His heart seemed to come to a sudden halt, making a clunking noise in his chest.
Their gazes unexpectedly tangled in the air between them.
“Why……?”
Yeong-won asked in a deep, drowsy voice. Tae-geon knew he should answer, but no words came out.
The moist, brown eyes looked unusually clear and beautiful.
A no-name actor, just a slightly pretty actor.
Everything he had thought about was suddenly shaken to its core.
Perhaps that was why.
Tae-geon realized, for the first time, that when a person is flustered, words just don’t come out.
With the background of the stork’s chirping, they spent a long time staring at each other, silently.
Something brushed against her cheek, and Yeong-won’s eyes snapped open.
She forgot to breathe because Tae-geon was so close.
‘Why is this man here?’
At the same time, tears began to trickle down Yeong-won’s face.
Just a moment ago, she had clearly been dreaming of her parents. A dream where, despite being swept away by the dark blue sea, they never reached out to help her.
She still couldn’t distinguish between dream and reality.
“Why……?”
In front of her, Tae-geon had his hand outstretched.
She asked in a deep, sleepy voice, but no answer came. Tae-geon, too, seemed startled, remaining silent.
They stared at each other, as if in a standoff, and Tae-geon was the first to speak.
“……You were crying, so I tried to wake you.”
His voice was even more deeply subdued than hers.
As if he were being weighed down by something.
Slowly, Tae-geon began to pull back.
Yeong-won hurriedly touched her eyes.
‘I must have cried in my dream.’
She had thought she had forgotten, but perhaps because of the trauma from being abandoned twice, whenever she dreamed of her parents, she always woke up crying.
She’d fall asleep in the car, then suddenly burst into tears.
Feeling embarrassed, Yeong-won quickly wiped away her tears and smiled.
“I-I must’ve been dreaming. Ahaha. Why am I crying?”
But Tae-geon didn’t respond. He just stared ahead with a stern face.
Yeong-won’s awkward smile, which had been lingering on her lips, gradually faded.
Maybe it wasn’t such a good look after all.
Tae-geon’s profile seemed to show signs of anger. Yeong-won, sensing his mood, pressed her lips together tightly.
As they entered the restaurant, the staff led them to their table.
“Why eel all of a sudden?”
“You’ve been working hard all day filming the movie, so we can’t just go anywhere.”
She had thought his expression was so stiff earlier in the car that he might be really angry, but thankfully, it didn’t seem like that was the case.
Yeong-won bowed her head and gave a slight nod.
“Thank you, in so many ways.”
Honestly, considering the favor he had done for her, no amount of thanks would ever be enough.
Because of his investment in the struggling film, Yeong-won was able to seize the luck of being the lead for the first time.
“Well, I’ll pay you back by making the movie a success. Tenfold.”
“Pardon?”
Yeong-won’s eyes widened. Tenfold.
Melliot had invested two hundred billion, so tenfold would mean they’d need to bring in two trillion, but no matter how successful ‘Distress’ might be, there was no way it could make that kind of money.
She couldn’t tell if it was a joke or not, so while Yeong-won blinked in confusion, Tae-geon chuckled quietly.
Only then did Yeong-won realize it was a joke, and she shot him a sideways glance.
“Your intentions are really…… Do you know you have the heart of a thief?”
Tae-geon’s laughter grew louder.
For some reason, it didn’t feel too bad, and her heart skipped a beat.
A moment later, the staff brought in a tray. The hot stone pots were placed in front of each of them, and Tae-geon spoke again.
“We’re having a crank-in party.”
“Crank-in…… party?”
Yeong-won asked in confusion while picking up her spoon.
Usually, don’t people hold a crank-up party after finishing filming as a celebration?
They had already started filming quite a while ago.
“‘Distress’ isn’t getting enough attention.”
At those words, Yeong-won nodded, saying, “Ah!”
Despite the large number of famous actors involved, was it because there was no word from the director? ‘Distress’ wasn’t being mentioned anywhere.
Movies that are likely to become buzzworthy usually invite reporters from the first shoot and make it public, but ‘Distress’ missed even that timing.
If things continued like this, it was easy to see it being forgotten.
“When will it be?”
“Next week.”
“It has to succeed.”
“Who’s investing?”
Tae-geon replied calmly. What others might have said arrogantly, coming from Tae-geon, it felt perfectly natural.
It felt like there was an undeniable sense that the film would succeed.
For some reason, Yeong-won felt reassured, as if ‘Distress’ had giant wings now.
