A Night Soaked With You - Chapter 9
No, to be honest, it didn’t matter whether Yeong-won was here or not.
She was already a star, and Kim Yeong-won was nothing more than a shooting star destined to vanish forever.
No matter what she said about Yeong-won, or whether Yeong-won heard it, Chae-young felt no hesitation.
She thought this way until Yeong-won kissed Tae-geon.
The events of just a moment ago replayed automatically in her mind, igniting a fury within her.
Chae-young had stepped out of the room where she was fixing her makeup, alongside a hot new girl group member, and headed downstairs to the bar.
As she received a cocktail from the bartender, her friend erupted with excitement.
“Seong Tae-geon’s nose is no joke, he’s seriously handsome.”
Chae-young smiled sweetly but replied in a chilling warning tone.
“You know Seong Tae-geon is the one I have my eye on, right? Don’t get any ideas.”
“Don’t be ridiculous. The atmosphere was so tense I couldn’t even make eye contact.”
Despite saying that, she couldn’t hide her excitement.
Since she was bringing someone who might become a hot topic, she thought it might be best to not bring him to gatherings for a while.
As Chae-young’s expression turned cold, her friend seemed to realize her mistake and quickly changed the subject.
“By the way, when does ‘New York Serenade’ start filming?”
“A month from now. The script reading is scheduled for next week.”
“Wow, that’s based on that hugely popular webtoon, right? It’s only a matter of time before it blows up.”
“Well, if it makes me famous, then I’d say it’s worth it. But let’s be real, I’d have to be Seong Tae-geon’s wife to consider it a success in life.”
Chae-young said this with a hint of coldness, still feeling a bit off. She pointedly reminded her friend that she wasn’t someone who could be easily looked up to.
Her friend pouted, looking a bit disappointed.
“Seong Tae-geon seems tough to get close to, though.”
“We’ll see about that.”
“Right, you’re amazing. Seong Tae-geon is all yours! By the way, should I ask Gyu-won oppa to get me a role in a drama? This industry is getting really tough these days.”
At the words ‘all yours,’ Chae-young felt her mood lighten a little and offered some advice.
“Why don’t you bring it up once? I had a friend lined up for a role, but I took it from her. It didn’t really suit her anyway. So it worked out.”
Her friend, sensing the odd tone in Chae-young’s words, asked her,
“Did you take the role from someone you know?”
“I got rid of her since she was a thorn in my side. Killing two birds with one stone. You should look for those kinds of people too. Aim for the ones without connections. They won’t even make a peep, so stealing their roles is a piece of cake.”
The thought of someone like Kim Yeong-won even appearing in such a drama was absurd. A bitter smile crept onto Chae-young’s lips.
“Is her agency just sitting back and doing nothing?”
“She doesn’t even have an agency. She joined a failing one, and I heard it went bankrupt recently.”
“Really? Then I should look for some useless people too.”
The two of them laughed gleefully.
Useless people, incompetent people.
Those words perfectly described Kim Yeong-won.
Thinking about how Kim Yeong-won’s innocent face must be crumpled right now made the cocktail taste even sweeter.
Well, she should have stopped meddling in other people’s affairs. Acting all innocent and clueless on the surface.
It was just at that moment, when Chae-young was about to take another sip of her sweet cocktail, that a voice suddenly interrupted.
“Are you having fun?”
Turning around, Chae-young saw Yeong-won standing there with shimmering eyes.
Seeing the very presence she had been gossiping about appear before her made Chae-young momentarily flustered.
However, reminding herself that Yeong-won wasn’t even worth her attention, she smiled brightly.
“Long time no see. Yeong-won.”
Despite having laughed at Yeong-won with all sorts of dirty words until now, Chae-young acted as if nothing had happened.
Yeong-won’s expression grew even colder.
“Are you having fun?”
“I’m laughing because it’s fun. Surely, I wouldn’t be laughing out of sadness?”
Chae-young spoke the truth in a gentle voice. There was no need to hide anything. Yeong-won let out a hollow laugh.
“You’re having fun, huh? I find it truly, horribly boring.”
At Yeong-won’s powerless tone, Chae-young cringed. With a gloomy expression, Yeong-won asked.
“I’ll ask you just one thing. Did you intentionally set out to take what’s mine? Knowing it was me?”
“Those things were too much for you to have anyway.”
Chae-young answered honestly with a small smile.
She had never been so openly hostile before, but now Chae-young felt no need to hold back. She knew that Yeong-won’s contract with the agency she was barely associated with had ended. There was no way she could survive in this industry anymore.
Yeong-won nodded as if it wasn’t surprising at all.
“Right. I figured as much.”
Perhaps she had drunk too much, as Yeong-won was swaying like a deflated balloon.
Moreover, she looked unusually gloomy compared to her usual self, which was odd.
‘Is she going to get her hair pulled or something?’
They say even a bug twitches when stepped on, don’t they?
Chae-young felt uneasy and scanned her surroundings. She had just started to gain attention, and getting into a scuffle in a place like this would only hurt her.
She was contemplating whether to leave quietly or exchange a few more words to watch Yeong-won’s face crumple in distress.
Suddenly, Yeong-won noticed something over Chae-young’s shoulder and smiled faintly.
