After I Died, My Husband Went Mad - Chapter 109
“Ah, this feels nice.”
It was only separated by a single wall. Even though the sunlight was the same, the sensation in the living room was markedly different from that in the garden. Sebelia closed her eyes and let out a contented sigh.
At that moment, something landed on her lap. Was it a fallen bird? Startled, Sebelia sat up awkwardly.
“Whoa?”
A cat was rolling around on her knees. Sebelia’s eyes widened in surprise. Where did this cat come from? Just as her astonishment began to settle, a slender gray cat tried to climb onto her shoulder.
“Wait, no! Oh, ouch!”
It was then that Sebelia realized why the cat had jumped on her. With a chirp, a small blue bird hopped down from the cat’s back and disappeared into her sleeve.
“Oh.”
She had forgotten to send it back. At Sebelia’s sigh, the cat squirmed. Its back legs tangled in her hair, creating a mess. She didn’t know what to do.
“Stop it, please… Aah!”
The blue bird teased the cat as it flitted around, and in response, the cat, annoyed, hissed and used Sebelia as a cushion to bounce off. Whenever Sebelia reached out to put the cat down, it swatted her hand with surprising ferocity despite its cute appearance.
Eventually, she ended up getting scratched.
“Ouch!”
Irritated by the persistent hands touching its body, the cat bit down on her wrist. The sharp teeth dug into her skin. Sebelia stared at the scene in a daze.
She was too flustered to feel anger. Just as she swallowed her sigh and tried to remove the cat…
“Sebelia!”
A man suddenly appeared, rushing toward her and lifting her up. As if the cat’s attack hadn’t been enough, bizarre things seemed to be happening today.
Startled, she raised her voice.
“Put me down!”
“You’re bleeding! Who dares…! Oh, it’s you.”
Dehart’s golden eyes fixed on the gray cat. Even though it was just an animal, the intensity of his glare was striking. Hiss—! The cat arched its back, ready to confront him.
Sebelia intervened.
“I don’t know what you’re thinking, but stop! Just leave it alone.”
“But—”
“And put me down, too. Quickly.”
Dehart hesitated while still holding her. She could clearly see the indecision in his eyes. Sebelia stared at him intensely. Finally, with a low sigh, Dehart set her back on the ground.
The cat had by now relaxed its ears and was circling around them. As Sebelia gestured for the cat to move away, Dehart frowned and spoke.
“We still need to give first aid. Let’s go see Watts right away.”
“That was the plan.”
Feeling relieved as her feet touched the ground, Sebelia exhaled softly and grasped Dehart’s wrist. His previously sullen eyes now sparkled like the sun.
“Let’s go together.”
“Ah, yes, of course.”
Dehart followed her eagerly. Was it possible he had developed some feelings? The anxiety that had been ringing in his head just moments ago seemed to vanish as he walked as if he was flying.
However, contrary to his assumptions, Sebelia was pulling him along out of concern that he might do something to the cat. When she had grasped his wrist, she had worried about what would happen if he objected, but that didn’t happen.
But there was another issue.
He called me Sebelia.
He had clearly stated that he had lost his memory. How could this be? Did a fragment of his memory return?
As they headed toward the lab where Watts was, Sebelia slowly sorted through her thoughts. This wasn’t a good sign.
Knock, knock.
She watched from a step away as Dehart knocked on the door to the underground laboratory. His gaze as he turned was gentle and kind. However, now that he had mentioned the name Sebelia, she could no longer trust him completely.
I need to be careful.
On the first day of their reunion, she had thought it didn’t matter whether he was pretending or truly had amnesia. But as they spent more time together, her perspective changed.
No matter what was happening inside, he was still Dehart. Sebelia felt past memories resurfacing every time she faced him. Of course, it wasn’t his fault. The Dehart who had lost his memory was a different person.
This was entirely Sebelia’s problem. Thus, she felt a slight sense of guilt toward the unaware Dehart.
But if his memory returns, things will change.
At that point, she might really resent him. Having discarded her past as Sebelia Inverness, she could irresponsibly shift the burden of responsibility onto him.
“That absolutely cannot happen…”
“Bella, what did you say?”
“Oh, it’s nothing.”
As she followed Dehart into the lab, Sebelia shook her head. His caring eyes were looking down at her.
“You’re bleeding a lot. What if it doesn’t stop? What if it gets infected?”
“It’ll be fine once I put on some medicine.”
As she passed by his concerned figure, Sebelia braced herself.
Whether he had called her name by coincidence or if a memory had momentarily returned, it was clear that a change was beginning.
I need to contact Denisa quickly and leave as soon as the treatment is finished.
Her blue eyes shimmered coolly under the light.
