After I Died, My Husband Went Mad - Chapter 110
There was only one way to contact Denisa: to create an illusion that looked just like her. Having done it several times before, she knew that with a bit of practice, it wouldn’t be too difficult.
However, things became a bit complicated when Dehart called her name.
“What should I do now?”
Given the possibility that he might regain his memory, it was better to finish the treatment quickly. This was where her two goals collided: the treatment and contacting Denisa.
To focus on the treatment, she needed to stay inside the house. But to reach out to Denisa, she had to practice making illusions away from prying eyes.
In the midst of her dilemma, a sound caught her attention from the window.
Tap, tap.
Something small and soft was tapping against the window. Sebelia approached, covering her mouth and letting out a small gasp.
“How cute.”
It was the gray cat that had viciously bitten her wrist last time, now tapping on the window with its front paw. As Sebelia watched in delight, the cat seemed to get a bit annoyed, and its taps grew stronger.
“Hm…”
After contemplating for a moment, Sebelia opened the window. With a playful meow, the cat hopped over the windowsill and into the room. Its cuteness made her feel like it wouldn’t matter if she let it nibble on her wrist again.
“Meow.”
The cat made a strange sound and rubbed its back against her ankle. Was this its way of making up? Sebelia marveled and scooped up the cat. Though it wriggled free almost immediately.
“Oh.”
Then, Sebelia witnessed a shocking sight. The cat… was opening the door.
“Huh?”
Ignoring the stunned Sebelia, the cat casually strolled into the hallway. Moments later, Claude’s scream echoed through the mansion.
“Maya! Where on earth have you been all this time?!”
It turned out to be a cat with a name.
* * *
Claude was petting Maya, who sprawled lazily on his lap, speaking in a voice that sounded as if he might burst into tears.
“Maya is originally from the forest, you see. That’s why she occasionally runs away like this, tearing at people’s hearts.”
“Ah…”
Sebelia then realized that the cushions scattered around the living room were for Maya. She had thought the decor was overly cute, but she hadn’t known there was such a secret behind it.
“No wonder Watts suddenly mentioned yesterday that Maya would be coming soon. It really was true.”
Claude sniffled, pressing his cheek against Maya’s front paw. With a thud, his face turned, and Sebelia jumped in surprise.
“Phew, Maya. You look healthy.”
That was a relief. He didn’t seem angry. In fact, he looked happy. An inexplicable chill ran down Sebelia’s spine. Claude noticed her awkward reaction and cleared his throat.
“Hm, I’m sorry. But it seems that Maya really likes Miss Bella.”
“Is that so?”
Sebelia tilted her head, looking at the gray furball that was now burrowing into her side. Why does it keep making strange noises? She glanced down at Maya, who was trembling slightly, filled with concern.
“You said you met her in the garden, right?”
“Ah, yes.”
As Sebelia replied willingly, Claude smiled, his eyes widening in amusement. It was the kind of laugh that suggested she had fallen into a trap.
“I thought Watts told you not to go out to the garden.”
Sebelia’s lips pressed together tightly. Instead of defending herself, she chose silence. The feel of Maya’s soft fur was incredibly captivating. Claude chuckled softly as he observed her distraction.
“True, it can feel stifling just being indoors.”
Claude now knew that Bella was Sebelia. He had researched her life and learned about the near-imprisonment she had endured at Hillend Hall.
So, it was only natural for him to feel concerned. Although they hadn’t known each other’s existence, they were still bound together as family.
“With Maya around, it should be fine to take a walk to the lakeshore.”
“Really?”
Sebelia’s face lit up at Claude’s words. It was the first time she had expressed such emotions, and he was a bit surprised.
It seems being cooped up was hard on her.
While not exactly a trauma, she was someone who had once lost her physical freedom. Even if it had been for therapeutic reasons, it must have been a difficult time for her.
Claude glanced at Maya and affirmed, “Yes, while it might not be true for others, you won’t get lost with Maya by your side. If you do happen to collapse, she’ll come right away to alert us.”
“She must be a clever cat.”
Sebelia scratched Maya’s chin as she spoke. Claude nodded like a proud parent bragging about their child.
“She’s a cat sith.”
Cat sith?
Cat siths were known as spirit beings resembling cats, typically residing deep within forests. They were said to have long lifespans and a level of intelligence comparable to that of a child. There were even legends of cat siths occasionally taking on human forms.
Wow, I didn’t expect to meet one in person.
Perhaps it was indeed the case for Suffredi, once known as the city of the gods. She recalled the sanctuary that was not far from here. There was certainly still a mystery yet to be revealed in this place.
“Ah, so Maya, you’re a cat sith.”
Sebelia lowered her head to meet Maya’s gaze. The jewel-like green eyes pierced through her.
“No wonder you didn’t seem like just an ordinary cat.”
