After I Died, My Husband Went Mad - Chapter 124
Henkit didn’t like Suffredi. He had come here reluctantly, following Sir Ryan’s orders, but honestly, everything about this place seemed pathetic. The most pathetic part was Eli, who, despite lacking any real skill, had been appointed as the Duke’s assistant just because of Sir Ryan’s recommendation.
“If that guy had done his job properly, the Duke wouldn’t have gone missing.”
If Henkit had been in Ryan’s position, what would he have done? He would have fired Eli without hesitation, regardless of family ties, and then gone to search for the missing Duke himself.
Sitting around in Hillend Hall and just talking nonsense, instead of doing something useful!
Henkit muttered complaints as he passed through an alley. He could see the post office nearby.
“Henkit, are you on patrol again today?”
“Aah.”
His fellow knight patted him on the shoulder and walked past.
“Patrol duty ended last week. Why so serious? Take it easy.”
“Forget it. Go on ahead.”
Henkit waved off his colleague in annoyance. He shrugged and disappeared. It had been a week since the patrol duty had ended. The reason? It was because Dehart had sent a letter, saying that they no longer needed to look for Sebelia.
Bunch of pathetic fools. If I become the leader, I’ll get rid of all these idiots.
Henkit thought back to the middle-aged man who had introduced himself as Karl Appenz and handed him Dehart’s letter.
He looked like someone who would go around saying, ‘I’m a good person.’ His appearance and pleasant voice made it obvious to Henkit. It was a trap.
Eli, foolish and short-sighted, had believed the nonsense that he had to be deceived.
He believed that Dehart had been captured by the fake Duchess and had been forced to write the letter under threat. Otherwise, why wouldn’t he show himself?
The Duke is definitely being held captive.
And the only person who could rescue him was Henkit. With a puff of breath, Henkit continued to patrol Suffredi diligently. It was just as he was passing by the post office when it happened.
“Should we head back now?”
“Ah, since we’re here, could we stop by the bookstore?”
Karl Appenz stood in front of the post office with a woman, her hood pulled low over her face. Her attire was not unusual for the chilly weather, but Henkit instinctively felt something was off about her.
“Hm. A bookstore, huh? It’s been a while since I last went, so I might get lost along the way. Is that alright?”
“Yes, I don’t mind. Oh, and we should pick up some snacks for Maya on the way.”
“Good idea.”
The two of them exchanged friendly smiles as they passed in front of Henkit. The woman, with her hood pulled low, slightly lifted her head to look at the person they were passing.
That person…!
Henkit’s eyes widened in surprise. His face flushed with excitement.
The fake Duchess!
So they were on the same side. The Duke was being held by them! Henkit’s heart raced with burning determination. He carefully followed the two, checking his inner pocket. The supplies he had bought in advance to rescue Dehart were safely tucked inside.
Eli, it’s over for you now.
Henkit’s ambition soared.

Before the evening sun could paint the sky, Sebelia had returned to the research facility. She gently swung the pendant Claude had given her, watching as the light faded.
“Myaong.”
As she opened the front door, Maya came to greet her. She rubbed her back against Sebelia’s ankle and let out a short meow, as if asking why Claude wasn’t with her.
“Claude had to stop somewhere. He’ll probably come back after dinner.”
“Myaak.”
Maya answered, then wagged her tail and walked away. Sebelia felt a bit of disappointment as she unpacked.
“Here are the books you asked for, Mr. Watts.”
“Thank you. It seems Claude will be late again today.”
Instead of replying, Sebelia gave a light smile and left the laboratory. As she climbed the stairs, she felt something heavy in her pocket. Only then did she realize she was still carrying the silver cross necklace.
“Ah.”
What should she do with this? Sebelia pondered as she climbed the last step. At that moment, she sensed a presence in the living room. She instinctively looked up in the direction of the sound.
Dehart was sitting on the couch, watching her with an uncertain expression.
“…”
“Sorry.”
With a brief apology, Dehart chewed on his lip.
“Is it alright if I stay here for a while?”
Sebelia stared at him, confused about why he was apologizing. His expression turned dark as he interpreted her gaze.
“I said something unnecessary. Sorry.”
Once again, apologizing, Dehart stood up. Sebelia watched as he quickly tried to leave, but she called out to him.
“Dehart.”
“….”
“You heard me call you, didn’t you?”
The gold eyes that turned to look at her were filled with a faint hesitation. Sebelia felt a strange unease as she met his gaze.
