After I Died, My Husband Went Mad - Chapter 89
Dehart smirked and turned to Claude.
“If you’re really concerned, I’ll tell you one thing, but know that I’m only doing it because it’s ridiculous that I’m being treated this way.”
Claude, who had been staring at the floor, tensed his shoulders. Watts fished something out of his inside pocket and stopped. Dehart lifted the corner of his mouth and spoke in a whisper.
“It’s a very simple story. The woman downstairs is hiding the truth from me. Well, maybe I’m just crazy, but I’m not backing down until I know what she’s lying about.”
Either he’s insane and believes that she’s the real Sebelia. Or she’s a trap set up to drive him to insanity. It was as simple as that, and Dehart wasn’t going back until he found out whether it was one or the other.
“So I would never harm her, Claude. Unless, of course, the truth is a plot to hurt me, in which case I’ll have to think about that when the time comes.”
“Dehart, you…”
“Now, if you’ve roughly understood, stop pulling weird stunts between her and me. And whatever I do in the future, please leave me alone. Getting treated like a teenager at my age is definitely a new experience, but it hasn’t been a particularly pleasant one.”
Dehart concluded with disgust.
Watts, squinting his eyes, pulled something out of his back pocket. After exhaling a displeased sigh, he mumbled as if speaking to himself.
“It was a good idea to search the warehouse.”
“What’s that?”
Claude, seeing the small box Watts was holding, approached him. Watts let him take the box.
There was a clinking sound and Claude asked, “Earrings…?”
“A control device.”
Watts picked up the earring with the red gemstone. He turned to Dehart, holding the key in one hand and the earring-like control device in the other.
“Accept both or reject both. There’s no option to choose just one.”
“Well, you’ve got quite an impressive friend, Uncle. Alright, I’ll accept as much as you want. But I have a condition.”
Watts tilted his head.
Dehart smiled at the glittering red jewel, then said, “Whatever I do tomorrow morning, when you first meet her, do not interrupt me.”
“I can’t accept such vague and unclear conditions.”
“It’s not difficult, Doctor. As I said, I won’t touch even a single strand of hair on her. I want the truth, and she’s hiding it. How to draw it out is just a matter of methods…”
He smiled slowly, his gaze resting on his restrained wrists.
“I just want to build trust with her from the start, so will you cooperate?”
Crack!
At that moment, a murderous crack rang out over the black iron restraints and bed frame. Claude’s eyes went cold. Watts’s jaw tightened. His fully restored strength had far exceeded their expectations.
“I am merciful, so I’ll let you choose one. Cooperate and peacefully we can eventually go our separate ways without incident, or refuse and burn together here. What will it be?”
Crackle, crackle, crackle. Hundreds of sparks flared in the air, rising and falling. It was a clear threat, and there was nothing anyone could do to stop him at that moment.
“…He’s truly insane. It’s certain.”
Hearing Watts’s muttering, Claude took the control tool and key from Watts’s hand. He spoke to Dehart with a low growl in his voice.
“The slightest disturbance and I’ll have you kicked out, even if it takes all my strength.”
“I told you not to worry, I’m a man of my word.”
“You’re a good talker.”
Claude immediately jammed the controls into both of Dehart’s ears. With a hiss, a sensation akin to hot wind accompanied the activation of the control tool’s seal.
I can always break this thing.
It might require Dehart exerting so much force that he would vomit blood and return to being a patient…but he didn’t care. He laughed as he felt the hot blood trickle down his body with a tingling sensation. It was like a scene out of a horror novel.
Claude released his restraints, but couldn’t help but worry. What if that madman breaks his promise and harms Bella? But his nephew was, unfortunately, a polite madman.
“Pleased to meet you.”
How could someone who turned insane be so polite? They were all gathered for breakfast. He appeared in front of a nervous Bella, his air pure and innocent, as if he were a simple country boy.
“Dehart?”
Bella called his name with a bewildered tone. However, Claude and Watts had no choice but to remain silent. There was an unspoken agreement to stay calm in the presence of Dehart. Revealing the truth here could engulf the entire laboratory in flames.
Besides, if they really are deceiving each other, there’s nothing I can do about it.
Bella continued to hide the truth, pretending not to know, while Dehart, in an attempt to uncover it, played along with the deception. In a situation where their lives were threatened, it was best to withdraw at this point.
“I’m sorry, I don’t know if you recognize me. I’ve lost my memory recently, and I’m not sure if I’m…”
Claude wasn’t so sure about the bit about Dehart losing his memory, but Claude had certainly lost his appetite.
