After I Died, My Husband Went Mad - Chapter 95
But no matter how hard he tried to compose himself, he couldn’t help but feel embarrassed, especially now.
“Ah, Mr. Dehart. Could you take three steps back for a moment?”
“Like this?”
“Yes. Just stand there quietly. If you find it difficult, you can go up to that rock over there and take a rest.”
The problem arose when she suddenly took a basket and walked outside, inviting him to follow. He quickly followed, suspecting something. However, she was just picking some strange herbs from the nearby forest.
“As expected, it’s black nettle. It probably wasn’t visible because it was hidden in the shadows.”
“…You have a keen eye.”
His low voice echoed through the forest. Dehart folded his legs and sat down where he had been standing, bringing himself to her eye level.
“But why are you out here gathering herbs yourself? Shouldn’t Dr. Watts or his assistant, Claude, be doing that?”
Carefully brushing off the dirt from the herbs, Sebelia looked back at him.
“I asked them if I could do it. I haven’t had any specific job yet, and Dr. Watts offered to help.”
“So you plan on becoming a herbalist or something?”
For some reason, his words came out oddly. Dehart threw up his hands hastily and resumed his friendly tone.
“I didn’t mean to say that being an herbalist doesn’t suit you, but climbing mountains can be dangerous.”
“…I know. Don’t worry. I didn’t take it as a complaint. I don’t intend to become an herbalist. I just thought that having specialized knowledge in anything could be useful in life.”
Sebelia had confided in Watts that she was worried about what she was going to do for a living going forward. This was his suggestion.
[While you’re in the laboratory, how about helping me and learning about herbs? Specialized knowledge is valuable anywhere. After leaving here, you could even find employment in a pharmacy.]
So, Sebelia occasionally assisted Watts and collected the required herbs for him. She wondered why Claude wasn’t handling this task, but soon found out.
He seems to leave the place quite often. Where could he be going so frequently?
Claude was the assistant who bought groceries and picked up letters from the post office for Watts, who didn’t like meeting people. However, for some unknown reason, he would suddenly and unexpectedly leave his post. She wasn’t sure why.
“Hmm…”
Sebelia carefully placed the black nettle in the basket and swept her hair aside. Just then, a gust of wind blew in and she carefully closed her eyes. At that moment, a ray of sunlight peeked through the dense foliage and landed lightly on her as if it had been waiting for her.
Dehart watched the scene breathlessly. It was a sublime, breathtaking moment—like he had stepped into a masterpiece painting. Her cute, short hair barely reaching her shoulders, her eyelids fluttering slightly, her rosy lips and cheeks glistening in the sunlight.
She looked like a fairy, and Dehart found himself almost involuntarily reaching out towards her. In that moment, he wanted to capture her, to hold onto the enchanting image of her.
Fortunately, such an event did not unfold. It was a stroke of luck that he did not succumb to the allure of her charm. What happened next, however, was not so good for him.
Sebelia suddenly opened her eyes and reached out to him, her eyes shining like a lake.
“Oh…!”
Thinking that he might have been caught daydreaming, Dehart instinctively recoiled and ended up twisting his body backward.
“…!”
Luckily, he managed to catch himself before he fell completely. But there was no denying that he was caught off guard.
Sh*t, sh*t, sh*t…!
Starting from the back of his neck, his entire body turned red in an instant. Even his breath felt hot from the sudden increase in body temperature. Even without looking in the mirror, Dehart could tell how ridiculous he must have looked.
“Ahem, well…”
When he finally cooled down his flushed face and adjusted his posture, Sebelia was staring at him with a blank expression. Then a faint hint of guilt crossed her pretty face.
“I’m sorry. I noticed windflowers at your feet, so I thoughtlessly…”
“Oh, no. I just clumsily tripped.”
Dehart clenched his teeth and took a deep breath to shake off the embarrassment.
Why am I even here? I didn’t follow her for this.
A profound sense of self-disgust filled his chest.
