Becoming the Guide of the Mysophobic Villain? Absolutely Not! - Chapter 179
I waved my hand dismissively, indicating that I didn’t want to speak.
Unperturbed by my reluctance and blinded by her ambitions, Demona forcibly thrust the microphone in front of me.
Ah, I really don’t feel like it…
Eventually, I just blurted out what was on my mind.
“It seems I did well because the level of the exam was trivial and the questions were predictable…”
“…”
The room fell silent as if doused with cold water.
Anyway, the morning training schedule was over, and it was lunchtime.
In a corner of the hallway, a group of Guides huddled together. Curious, I approached and saw that at the Center, they were comforting a Guide who was sobbing.
It was Naomi, a C-Class Guide.
“Apparently, her Esper cheated on her. I heard he received guiding from another Guide without Naomi knowing.”
One of the gathered Guides whispered this.
Naomi had a boyfriend who was a B-Class Esper. He was quite handsome, and moreover, he had been extremely devoted to Naomi.
For instance, he had declared that he would not receive guiding from any Guide other than Naomi.
Even though Espers usually receive regular guiding from various Guides, since for an Esper, the principle is ‘to receive as much guiding as possible’.
Thus, his declaration to refuse regular guiding to stay faithful to Naomi was a significant commitment.
No wonder Naomi had often said she wanted to imprint with him someday.
“But, cheated?”
“With whom?”
“That, you know. Razne. The new B-Class Guide.”
I knew her all too well.
Pretty-faced and a B-Class Guide herself, she had been on the same team as Claude and me during an outdoor mock training.
“They say Razne seduced him, and he eventually fell for it.”
“Ah, why do you innocently believe Espers’ sweet nothings? No matter how much a C-Class Guide whispers love, when a B-Class Guide tempts, how could an Esper resist?”
Listening to this made an F-Class Guide nearby sigh in despair.
Simyez and Epine saw my disheartened face and fidgeted helplessly.
“Why don’t you go to a nice cafe with a friend and chat?”
Epine suggested. Simyez agreed with her.
But there was one problem they didn’t know about. I had no friends.
So instead of a friend, I sought out Irene, a nagging acquaintance.
Busy with administrative work, Irene frowned the moment she saw me.
“What’s up, Rose?”
“IIIreeeeeene… hiiiicc…”
I whined, my voice trailing off as I expressed my sadness through my entire demeanor.
However, Irene wasn’t interested in whether I was upset or not.
“I’m busy. Just get to the point.”
“Claude went on a mission, and my heart feels powerless, hollow, and lonely. So, the other Guides suggested I go eat something nice and chat with a friend. But I don’t have any friends, do I? So I thought, although we’re not exactly friends, maybe we could go to a pretty cafe and chat.”
I explained to Irene precisely and efficiently why I had come to see her.
But as I talked, Irene’s face grew colder.
When I finished speaking, she snapped at me with a face as chilling as a fierce wind.
“It’s really simple. Rose, shall I tell you how to stop having such pointless thoughts?”
“Oh, there’s a way? What is it?”
“Just tire out your body. You have these thoughts because your body and mind are at ease. Ever since you left, we’ve been short-staffed, so the workload has doubled. Why don’t you pull an all-nighter with me today? You won’t have time for idle thoughts.”
Ugh, I don’t like that.
I quickly dodged Irene as she tried to force a stack of files into my arms.
The advice to chat with a friend obviously doesn’t suit me.
Anyway, having nowhere else to go, I reluctantly returned to the Guide Division.
Seeing me face-down on the desk, sighing heavily, Simyez and Epine came up with another idea.
“Ah, how about a party, then?”
“…A party?”
“Let’s throw a party in the Guide Division.”
I wasn’t particularly thrilled, but unlike me, other Guides who overheard the conversation lit up with excitement.
“That’s a great idea! Let’s invite as many people as possible and make it a bustling party! It’ll be fun!”
As they got excited, they started planning where to hold it and what music to play among themselves.
…Are they just looking for an excuse to have fun?
I had my doubts but reluctantly agreed. I didn’t have the heart to dampen their eager faces by saying ‘I’m not interested’.
And frankly, anything was better than going home alone to the empty house without Claude and falling asleep amidst such deafening silence.
Thus, a party was held at the Guide Division.
