Becoming the Guide of the Mysophobic Villain? Absolutely Not! - Chapter 203
The auditorium was specially treated to withstand an Esper’s abilities.
However, no matter how reinforced it was, it couldn’t have remained unscathed after Claude wiped out four gigantic stone golems.
As a result, despite quite some time having passed, there were still ongoing repairs here and there.
It didn’t really matter to me. Since I couldn’t perform any guiding, I could just stay in the back and take it easy.
However, the Espers participating in today’s training seemed to have some complaints.
“…Wouldn’t it be better to postpone the indoor simulation if the facility is in this condition?”
“Exactly. We’re already busy enough dealing with mutants, and now we have to check where the tape is too?”
I listened to the Espers’ grumbles from behind with a light chuckle.
“Each team usually consists of two Guides and six Espers, but since this team has an imprinted Guide, there will be an additional Guide, making it three Guides and six Espers,” the instructor explained.
Even as the instructor spoke, the Espers continued to grumble.
“What’s with all these marble slabs?”
“They must be trying to repair the broken floor.”
“Well, this place is huge, so they probably need this much.”
During their conversation, one of the Espers casually struck the stack of marble slabs that were piled higher than a person
Surprisingly, despite its size, the stack wobbled easily.
The tape around it to prevent access was practically useless.
“Rose!”
Epine’s sharp scream reached my ears.
In the blink of an eye, a long shadow loomed over my head. A massive marble slab was toppling down on me.
…Wait. Will I be okay if this hits me?
Of course not, but I had no time to think.
I stood there blankly, unable to even think about dodging the falling slabs.
At that moment.
A powerful force yanked me away as if I were a paper doll.
My face was buried in a broad chest…
Crash!
“Ah!”
I trembled at the ear-splitting sound, and the arms holding me soothed my back gently.
It wasn’t hard to guess whose arms they were.
“…Da, Daniel?”
I looked up, still pressed against his chest, and saw Daniel’s tense jawline.
“…It seems we need to file a complaint about the Center’s safety negligence.”
Muttering that, he pushed away the weight pressing down on his shoulder.
Crash!
Another shattering sound made me flinch, and Daniel patted my shoulder reassuringly.
Behind Daniel, I saw dozens of marble slabs, which had been stacked for the auditorium repairs, shattered into pieces.
“Are you, are you okay?”
“I’m fine. I’m an Esper, after all.”
Daniel nonchalantly brushed the marble debris off his head and replied lightly.
If the falling slabs had hit me directly, I would have had a low chance of serious injury, and a high chance of death. But Daniel, an S-Class Esper, had shielded me with his body.
He really was unharmed, not just saying it.
…Though he seemed quite angry.
Daniel scanned the chaotic auditorium with a cold gaze before turning to the instructor, who was rushing over. He complained about the Center’s poor safety measures in a sharp, aggressive tone.
It was the first time I’d seen Daniel angry. Even when he was unjustly fired by Claude and ostracized by Logs #2 and #3, he had defended them to me.
When standing up for the weak, Daniel became even stronger. He had done so at the dessert café before, and now, again.
I couldn’t help but look up at Daniel intently. Noticing my gaze, Daniel turned his eyes to me, who was still in his arms.
His stern expression softened instantly…
“Gray hair suits you well.”
“……”
Daniel burst into laughter at the sight of my hair, which had turned practically white from all the crushed marble’s dust.
The cold demeanor from before was nowhere to be seen. It was as if he was a completely different person from the one who had been furious just moments ago.
I couldn’t bring myself to laugh along with him. More than the relief of being alive, or the embarrassment of being teased by Daniel, what struck me the most was a strange sense of déjà vu.
But at that moment, I couldn’t understand why I felt that way.
