Becoming the Guide of the Mysophobic Villain? Absolutely Not! - Chapter 238
Meanwhile, Rose furrowed her nose, lost in thought. Her lips moved as if she had something to say.
“Um, about the guiding…”
“……”
“Did you receive any guiding from another Guide while you were on the expedition?”
Rose finally asked after much hesitation.
Claude couldn’t help but laugh. He had been waiting for her to ask this question.
“No. Not even from Shana or Oscar.”
“…Not at all during the expedition?”
“Yes, not at all.”
“Why not! I told you to receive guiding from Oscar if it got too hard!”
Though her relief was evident, Rose scolded him instead.
Rose was still so naive and didn’t understand him. Claude had endured without guiding for over a decade after his powers manifested. Why would he need guiding for just a month?
Besides, he had no desire or need for guiding from anyone other than Rose.
But her fretting was endearing, so Claude simply smiled and whispered in her ear.
“I forgot all about any hardship. Last night was too blissful.”
“…”
Rose bit her lip, trying to keep her expression neutral, but her blushing cheeks and ears betrayed her.
“And while I was gone, no Esper dared to flirt with you?”
Claude had no real intent behind the question. He wasn’t suspicious of her. He just wanted to hear Rose chatter some more while she was in his arms.
But as soon as he asked, Rose exclaimed “Ah!” and sprang up. She quickly turned her head to look at him and shouted.
“Lord Daniel…!”
“What?”
Claude hadn’t expected her to actually name someone.
Raising his eyebrows in surprise, Claude looked puzzled as Rose continued.
“Please say something to Wilhelm and Livener. Because of them, Sir Daniel is being ostracized by the Espers.”
“…What are you talking about? Explain clearly. Who is Daniel?”
“Log #1!”
“…Log?”
“Oh, come on, you’ve already forgotten his name… He was the one who got scolded by you instead of me when you went to the dessert cafe with Shana!”
Claude’s face turned cold as he finally remembered who she was talking about.
Unaware of Claude’s reaction, Rose continued to chatter.
“After Lord Daniel confronted you and got dismissed, Wilhelm and Livener started ostracizing him. They respect you so much that they can’t tolerate anyone defying you. But he wasn’t defying you—he was trying to protect me because he was afraid you might kill me. So, could you help so that Lord Daniel doesn’t suffer because of me anymore…?”
“Have you met him privately?”
Claude asked through gritted teeth, struggling to contain his rising anger. His arm tightened around Rose’s waist, making her flinch.
“Huh? Uh… we did have lunch together twice, but it wasn’t just the two of us, Irene was with us too…”
Claude then remembered what Wilhelm had mentioned about rumors of Rose associating with an Esper.
He trusted Rose, but he couldn’t trust any Esper who approached his defenseless Guide while he was away.
Claude’s impression of Daniel was vague. He knew very little about him.
Daniel had entered the Center only less than a year ago due to a late manifestation of his powers. Claude initially thought he’d be a burden but found him surprisingly competent.
The only time he had really faced Daniel was when Daniel had stood up to him to protect Rose.
Despite knowing he was no match for Claude, Daniel had willingly acted as a shield for Rose.
Claude instinctively felt he shouldn’t let Daniel stay close to Rose.
So he dismissed him and had forgotten about him since.
Yet now he learned that Rose and Daniel had met privately.
Twice.
“Why did you meet him?”
Rose looked frightened at Claude’s harsh tone.
Normally, Claude would soften his expression for his timid Guide, but he had no such luxury now.
Seeing Claude’s intense gaze, Rose stammered.
“I-I wanted to set him up with Irene…”
“…What?”
Her trailing explanation was something Claude had never imagined.
