Becoming the Guide of the Mysophobic Villain? Absolutely Not! - Chapter 272
As soon as Shana’s hand touched his, Daniel’s arm transformed into a grotesque state. His veins bulged and writhed as if they would burst through his skin at any moment.
Oscar involuntarily stepped back. He felt sorry for Daniel, but the sight was so horrifying and nauseating that he couldn’t bear to look directly at it. It seemed as if his arm might explode any second.
Suddenly, a dark shadow loomed over Oscar. Startled, he turned to see what it was.
There, with a stern face, stood Claude, who had somehow appeared without being noticed.
Wilhelm quickly wrapped his arms around the convulsing Daniel from behind. It was a precaution to separate him from Shana if necessary.
But Daniel shouted,
“I can… endure… this…!”
He growled through clenched teeth. Blood trickled from his lips, which he had bitten in his agony.
“The guiding, the guiding is working. Just a bit… just a bit more…!”
“Then hang in there, damn it!”
Wilhelm shouted, holding Daniel firmly to keep him from backing away.
Daniel’s body trembled uncontrollably from the unbearable pain. Fortunately, he still seemed to retain enough sanity to avoid harming Shana.
Shana froze for a moment, shocked by Daniel’s more intense reaction than expected.
However, deciding that Daniel could endure a bit longer, she used her other hand to clasp his hand as well. Daniel’s body jerked violently once again. Wilhelm pressed his arm over Daniel’s eyes to keep them covered.
“……”
Meanwhile, Oscar glanced up at Claude, who was silently standing behind him.
With Claude present, Daniel would never be able to harm Shana. If Daniel showed any sign of losing control, Claude would immediately execute him according to protocol. Claude had both the authority and the power to do so.
But despite the commotion, Claude merely stood at a distance, observing. His expression was so complex that it was hard to guess what he was thinking.
The guiding lasted for about ten minutes. Eventually, the violently trembling Daniel collapsed, unconscious.
Startled, Shana quickly withdrew her hand from Daniel. Immediately, the Espers surrounding them moved to protect her.
Fortunately, after a short while, Daniel regained consciousness.
“How effective was it?”
Wilhelm pressed, having been anxious and considering dumping a bucket of cold water on the unconscious Daniel.
With his hair drenched with cold sweat, Daniel brushed it back and replied in a weary voice.
“…There was some effect. It was more painful than when I experienced the prelude to a berserk state… but it seems a bit of guiding did occur during the process.”
Despite being in a terribly exhausted state, Daniel’s complexion had improved somewhat compared to before the guiding session.
The Espers sighed in relief. Whether it was truly fortunate for Daniel or not was uncertain, but as long as the guiding was somewhat successful, he wouldn’t go berserk on the battlefield anytime soon.
“…Good job.”
Wilhelm, who had originally planned to dump the water on Daniel’s face, instead scooped some into a cup and handed it to him.
“Ah… thank you.”
Momentarily confused due to his previously strained relationship with Wilhelm, Daniel hesitated. However, he accepted the cup without refusal.
“But… how did you know? I heard that with that allergy… guiding wouldn’t work at all. Did you know that enduring it might allow for some guiding?”
“…Actually.”
Daniel hesitated for a moment, then his gaze met Claude’s, who had been watching all along.
The moment their eyes met was brief. Daniel then turned back to face Wilhelm and answered calmly.
“Lady Rose… told me.”
“…Lady Rose? Lord Claude’s…?”
“Yes. Lady Rose mentioned that my guiding allergy might have improved. So, if it ever became unbearable for me… she advised me to muster the courage to try guiding.”
