Becoming the Guide of the Mysophobic Villain? Absolutely Not! - Chapter 282
Eventually, Oscar, unable to stand it any longer, clicked his tongue and sneered.
“Claude, give it a rest. You’re going to smother your precious azalea.”
He was mocking me for looking plump from wearing so many layers of clothes. Of course, neither Claude nor I paid him any attention, as if we had promised each other.
I was more concerned with Shana, who was standing silently with a pouty face behind Oscar.
Not that Shana made me particularly uncomfortable. Even if Shana found me awkward, I had no reason to avoid her.
The person I really wanted to avoid was someone else.
It was Daniel, standing silently with a stern face at the back of the group.
He looked remarkably thinner since I last saw him. Life on the battlefield must have been tough, but he stood out even among the other Espers for looking extremely worn out.
And I could easily guess why. It was due to the lack of guiding. However, compared to the state he was in about a month ago when he nearly went on rampage, he looked much better now.
Though he still didn’t look well, it was proof that he had taken my advice and received guiding.
I still felt guilty towards Daniel. Despite our awkward relationship, I might be the only clue to curing his guiding allergy.
However, even if I was curious about his condition… Claude would never allow me to guide Daniel again. So, knowing Daniel’s situation wouldn’t be of much help to me…
Lost in these thoughts, I suddenly felt a strong grip on my shoulder. Claude had noticed my distraction and was reminding me to stay alert.
“Don’t ever leave my side.”
“Yes.”
“Tell me if you’re having a hard time.”
“Yes.”
“If you’re hungry, eat the snacks I put in your pocket. The terrain is rough, so it might be difficult to rest at the scheduled times, and meals could be delayed.”
“……”
The more I listened, the more ridiculous it seemed. Wasn’t he treating me like his daughter at this point?
Usually, I would have already snapped, asking if he saw me as a child and insisting that I could take care of myself as an adult. But…
“Yes, I understand.”
I nodded again and answered obediently. I knew that to him, I probably looked like a goldfish floundering outside of water.
“……”
But suddenly, Claude fell silent.
What now? I wondered what he could be dissatisfied with this time, and as I looked up, he abruptly gave me a light kiss on the lips.
“W-What… why?”
I asked, bewildered, and he suddenly started laughing. Eventually, he even held my cold cheeks and planted several kisses on them.
Why? I didn’t do anything, so why is he laughing…?
Even though I looked up at him with a resentful face, he just shook his head and turned away, unable to suppress his smile.
The Espers, already lined up, gawked at Claude with pale faces as if they had seen a ghost.
Sometimes, Claude finds things funny that only he understands. But he never explains, no matter how much I pester him.
With Claude leading the way, the group slowly started moving.
I glared at his shameless back, having fun at my expense… when suddenly, a devil’s whisper came from beside me.
“Azalea, want to know why that guy is laughing?”
“……”
“Actually, he thinks you look funny… That’s why he’s mocking you. He’s amazed at how someone can be so ugly just by looking at your face.”
Oscar was trying to drive a wedge between Claude and me. But as always, when I ignored him, he eventually got furious.
“Hey, did you forget that guy tried to kiss me?”
“……”
“Can you easily forgive that? This battlefield is a place where feelings fade and new ones grow between Espers and Guides. Aren’t you worried he might fall for my deadly charm?”
“……”
“Azalea, let’s get revenge. I’ll teach you how to nag effectively. That punk thinks he owns the world—you’re the only one who can show him the bitter taste of reality.”
Suffice to say, I ignored him and pretended he didn’t exist.
