Becoming the Guide of the Mysophobic Villain? Absolutely Not! - Chapter 299
“There was someone who was exceptionally curious about it and kept probing me excessively. If I had succeeded in getting guiding from Shana… Things about the guiding allergy…”
Daniel furrowed his brows.
“If not for the circumstances, I wouldn’t have thought much of it. I would have answered appropriately and forgotten about it. Since guiding allergies are still unfamiliar to most people, it’s not unusual for people to approach with curiosity. But… he was different. That person…”
Daniel hesitated before continuing slowly.
“He seemed more interested in Rose than in me. He kept asking how she knew my guiding allergy had improved and whether she had guided me. He was quite persistent. He repeatedly asked if the reason I hadn’t gone on a rampage was because of Rose.”
“…”
“I denied it. I had already promised to keep the fact that Rose hadn’t imprinted with you a secret, Lord Claude. But he didn’t seem to believe me. It felt like he was confirming what he already suspected rather than genuinely curious. And not long after… Lady Rose disappeared. The timing was too perfect to be a coincidence.”
“…”
“Lord Claude, perhaps I’m blinded by my desire to find Lady Rose and wrongly suspecting an innocent colleague. If I am mistaken, I’ll accept the consequences. But if I’m right… the reason for Lady Rose’s disappearance might not be the mutants.”
With a sense of resignation, Daniel was about to reveal the name of the person he had been suspecting.
“It’s…”
“Stop.”
It was the first time Claude had spoken since Daniel started.
“I will investigate who he is.”
Claude’s eyes gleamed with newfound resolve.

In the deep night without even a single star, Wilhelm was on his way to Claude’s tent, having been suddenly summoned.
He was puzzled, but considering the recent series of events, it seemed plausible. The shock of losing his imprinted Guide was so great that his superior kept acting out of character.
However, despite understanding, he couldn’t help but feel a sense of despair. They couldn’t keep clinging to a Guide whose life and death were unknown.
But if it was him, would he have given up on his Guide? Would he even give up at all? Wilhelm pondered as he reached the tent.
“I’ll take my leave now.”
Wilhelm came face-to-face with someone exiting the tent.
“You…?”
Wilhelm raised his voice involuntarily. It was surprising that he wasn’t the only one called out.
However, Livener merely gave a slight nod as a greeting and brushed past Wilhelm.
Confused, Wilhelm watched him leave before remembering his original purpose.
“Lord Claude, it’s me. I’m coming in.”
Wilhelm hurriedly announced and entered the tent, only to stop again.
“Lord Claude, why are you…?”
Despite the late hour, Claude was dressed in battle gear, as if ready to enter the battlefield at any moment.
But Claude, either unaware or unconcerned with Wilhelm’s confusion, gestured nonchalantly. It was then that Wilhelm noticed a map spread out. It roughly depicted the geography and terrain of the border area.
There was a red mark on the map. It was a plain area surrounded by canyons, and four routes leading to that point were marked.
“I plan to split the unit into four teams.”
