She’d been so anxious until the morning of the wedding, worried that someone who knew her might attend.

So she shouldn’t hope for any more miracles.

Like the possibility of growing closer to Si-heon.

Knock knock-

The office door’s knock brought Ga-eun back to her senses, and she cleared her throat.

“Yes, come in.”

The person who entered was Secretary Team Leader Myung Hyun-ju.

She was one of the supposedly ‘capable and loyal’ employees assigned by Si-heon, always kindly assisting at her side.

“The artwork you mentioned is being sorted and prepared for exhibition within the week.”

“Yes, thank you.”

“Not at all. But… is something troubling you? You don’t look well, Chief Director.”

Ga-eun hesitated before smiling.

Chief Director.

That was her title as Acting Director.

Not quite Director. But they couldn’t use a regular title for a member of the Hwanhee Group family.

So she’d been appointed Managing Director, with ‘Chief’ added to distinguish her from other directors.

She was only just getting used to that long, awkward title.

When had she become accustomed to Si-heon’s occasional smiles?

Perhaps from their first meeting at that jazz bar?

Was that why his cold attitude now left her so confused?

Enough to show her emotions outwardly.

Though concealing her feelings behind a smile was more than just habit now – it was ingrained in her very being.

Why did everything related to Si-heon shake her so much?

“Um… Chief Director?”

Seeing Hyun-ju’s worried expression, Ga-eun managed a faint smile.

“Sorry. I just didn’t sleep well.”

Hyun-ju nodded in understanding.

“It must be difficult. With so much to worry about. But you’re doing wonderfully. Just as the Managing Director said, you have excellent sensibility.”

“…Did he say that?”

“Yes, he said you create an elegant yet simple atmosphere without complications. It’s the first time I’ve heard him praise someone like that.”

Could that be true? No, it must have been mere courtesy.

To make their marriage appear genuine.

Even knowing this, it made her happy.

…This was a very dangerous sign.

That her mood could swing on a single meaningless word or glance from Kwon Si-heon.

This feeling, this heart…

“It’s thanks to you, Director Myung. I’m grateful for your constant help.”

Ga-eun said with a smile.

She couldn’t let herself define her feelings for Si-heon.

That would be dangerous.

“Not at all. It’s simply my job.”

Just as she was smiling her thanks.

Director Myung’s eyes widened as she checked her phone.

“Chief Director.”

“What is it?”

“Jung Yeo-jin, Executive Director of SJ International, has arrived in the lobby.”

Jung Yeo-jin. Si-heon’s cousin-in-law and wife of Kwon Si-jung, who strongly opposed him.

She was Ga-eun’s cousin-in-law by marriage.

“She wants to see you… what should we do?”

“Let her in.”

“Yes, ma’am. Should I contact the Managing Director?”

Though Hyun-ju was kind and worked closely with her daily, she was still Si-heon’s person.

Whatever she answered, Si-heon would be informed.

Perhaps she should be grateful for even being asked. It was a gesture of respect.

“Yes, thank you.”

“Understood.”

“He’s probably busy and won’t respond right away.”

Hyun-ju answered with a slight smile.

That seemed to mean she’d use her own judgment. Was that presumptuous of her?

After Hyun-ju left the director’s office.

Ga-eun took a slow, deep breath.

At the wedding, Si-heon had mentioned in passing that both his uncle Kwon Jae-seong and his son Si-jung shared the same trait – ambition exceeding their abilities.

He’d said Si-jung’s wife Yeo-jin, the only daughter of SJ Global Group, was a perfect match for him with her strong pride, greed, and jealousy.

‘Should I think of her as a Gye So-yeon from a better family?’

As she was mentally preparing herself with such thoughts, there came a knock at the door.
