Can Someone (Anyone!) Please Turn Off the Auto-Skill Setting?! - Chapter 102
As the kiss deepened, Nancy found herself short of breath, and Aaron finally pulled away.
“I wanted to knock Leo out myself, but you beat me to it.”
“…Still felt satisfying, didn’t it?”
Aaron stared at her for a moment before letting out a small laugh. He was reminded of what the prophet had said when Nancy was being taken to prison.
‘So, you two ended up meeting after all?’
The prophet had spoken in a calm, unsurprised tone, and it was then that Aaron had realized—this is how he was going to lose everything.
“So, where are you going now?”
Aaron’s question was simple, but Nancy found it hard to answer. She had no plans. She’d been too caught up in despair, blame, and cursing her fate to make any.
But Nancy could tell that the location wasn’t what really mattered to him.
“Why do you ask?”
“I’ve been exiled from Verus too. For aiding demons during my mission.”
Nancy remembered the Ferron village and let out a small ah. But no one else knew about that incident. There was no way the Ferron would have traveled all the way to the north to report it.
Aaron shrugged, sensing her confusion.
“I confessed.”
“Why?”
“I’m not the type to hide things, unlike someone I know.”
“…”
“Since I’ve been exiled too, I wanted to know where you were going.”
“…Want to come with me?”
Nancy mustered all her courage to ask. She had a feeling that’s what he wanted, but she wasn’t entirely sure. Was she right? Or was she wrong? What if he thought it was ridiculous? But it was too late now; she’d already said it.
“Well, I might follow you if we get married. But since I didn’t get paid, I’m not sure anymore…”
Aaron paused for a moment before giving his baffling answer. What did that even mean? How was she supposed to interpret that?
Nancy felt confused, but before she could respond, the imps around them, who had gathered to watch the scene, suddenly began clapping in rhythm and chanting, “Go get ma~rried! Go get ma~rried!”
They were enjoying this far too much for it to be their business.
Nancy glanced sideways at Aaron while glaring at the imps. He had a peculiar expression, waiting for her to make a move.
“…Then, um, wanna get married?”
Aaron smiled widely. Apparently, that was the right answer. As Nancy beamed, Aaron quickly turned serious.
“And you’re proposing without a ring?”
“A ring? Uh… I’ll buy you one once I make some money. Right now, I only have 20 gold.”
“You may only have 20 gold, but you do have a ring.”
“Huh?”
“The diamond ring. The one that’s way too big for you.”
Nancy suddenly realized what he was really after. She gaped at him, stomping her foot in protest.
“Are you serious? You just want the ring! You don’t actually want to marry me!”
“…”
“What? Why aren’t you answering? That ring is the only valuable thing I have left! You’re being so unfair!”
“So, are you going to give up on me because of a ring?”
Nancy groaned in frustration and crouched down, clutching her head. If she gave away the diamond ring, she’d be left with only 20 gold.
But how could she argue with his cheeky, provocative comment? She couldn’t just tell him to get lost.
“Damn it. How did I end up falling for a rich brat with such expensive tastes?”
As she lamented her situation, Aaron crouched down to her eye level, holding out his hand with a prim expression. He was clearly waiting for her to slip the ring onto his finger.
Nancy glared at him for a long moment before finally giving in. She retrieved the ring from the necklace around her neck, hidden under her clothes, and slowly slipped it onto his finger.
It fit perfectly, as if it had finally found its rightful owner.
“Thank you, darling.”
“You’re welcome. Now I’ll be starving on the streets, but at least I didn’t give you up.”
She handed him the ring, but the bitterness in her voice was obvious. Aaron chuckled as he stood up, offering his hand to help her to her feet. His voice was soft and soothing as he spoke.
“I’ll buy you a ring too, so cheer up.”
“And how do you plan on doing that? What money do you have?”
“I might be exiled, but they didn’t confiscate my fortune. I can even buy you a bag of popcorn every day.”
Aaron smiled, planting a gentle kiss on her cheek as she blinked at him in surprise.
