Can Someone (Anyone!) Please Turn Off the Auto-Skill Setting?! - Chapter 39
As Nancy grew confused, Aaron responded.
“It seems the seal had weakened.”
“Hmmm.”
Aaron explained what he had heard from his grandfather. All the other seals had remained intact, but that particular one had weakened at the time.
Nancy felt uneasy for some reason.
“That’s why this time, we need to seal it properly.”
“And who’s going to do the sealing?”
Nancy asked, thinking that sealing sounded like something a mage would do. But there was no mage in their current party. Could Aaron possibly know how to use magic? She’d seen him use healing magic before, though.
‘My lower half was swollen beyond belief!’
She recalled snapping at him while lying on the bed, and he had used his healing magic to calm the redness and swelling. He’d mentioned that as a paladin, he had learned basic healing magic.
Imagine using healing magic, learned under a vow of chastity, to treat the swollen v*g*na of the woman you had just slept with. Surely, the gods must have been shaking their heads in disbelief by now.
Nancy furrowed her brow, glaring at the back of Aaron’s shiny helm.
“Why are you asking me that? Of course, you’re the one who has to do it.”
“I don’t know how to seal anything,” she replied.
Aaron stopped in his tracks.
“Sealing is a basic skill any hero should know. And you’re saying you don’t?”
Nancy could almost hear the unspoken words at the end of his sentence: Are you even a real hero?
If sealing was something all heroes could naturally do, maybe… Just in case, Nancy checked her skill list.
: You can seal demons by chanting the incantation.
【 Incantation: ‘With the righteous power of the hero, I seal you. Courage power!’ 】[/sc]
Nancy squeezed her eyes shut the moment she saw the incantation. She glanced at Aaron, biting her lip. The cringeworthy line hadn’t disappeared, weighing heavily on her mind.
“I mean… I can do it, but… do I have to?”
“Why do you keep stating the obvious? Even if it’s not as large-scale as the Demonic War, people are still suffering from demon attacks every day.”
If she could stop them, she had to. Aaron’s stance was firm. Nancy had no choice but to say she’d try, even though she didn’t mean it, hoping to stop him from being more disappointed.
“But we haven’t even encountered any of the Cardinal Guardians yet. Maybe they’re still sealed.”
They’d been attacked repeatedly, but all the enemies had been small fry. If none of the Four Cardinal Guardians had appeared yet, maybe Aaron wouldn’t go out of his way to hunt them down. Nancy hoped for the best.
After all, if they had to go after the hidden Cardinal Guardians, their adventure would drag on. And the longer their journey, the more battles she’d have to fight with this man, who was constantly brimming with desire.
Sure, it was thrilling, even addictive, but they didn’t just squabble—they fought like it was a war. If she could make Aaron truly fall for her, maybe she could break free, but every time she tried to seduce him, his affection just kept dropping. At this point, it seemed impossible.
“More importantly, let’s take a break,” Nancy suggested, knowing she couldn’t come up with a solution just by thinking about it.
“I’m fine. I’m not tired.”
“I’m hungry.”
Oh, come on! Why does his affection keep dropping every time I say something?
Frustrated, Nancy handed him the water pouch, telling him they were out of water and that he should go refill it. This cycle of being scolded by him, seeing his affection drop, and then scolding him back was a vicious circle.
‘Is he going to start getting hostile toward me again?’
Nancy briefly felt worried as she watched him leave to fetch water. But then, a large shadow loomed over her.
At first, Nancy thought Aaron had returned quickly with the water. But the figure standing before her was a much larger demon.
With fire burning on his head and razor-sharp, fang-like teeth that were as long as fingers, the demon grinned at her with six glowing eyes.
“I am Eije, the proud vanguard of the Demon King’s army and one of the Four Cardinal Guardians!”
How had a Cardinal Guardian shown up so soon after they had just been talking about them?
Nancy hurriedly grabbed her sword and attacked. Unfortunately, Aaron wasn’t around, making this a very unfavorable fight. She had to win in under 30 seconds.
But Eije kept dodging, casting barriers with magic and evading her attacks.
The 30 seconds flew by, and Nancy’s strength drained from her body.
“Hehehe. I know you’re the hero who can’t even fight for a full minute.”
So that’s why she wasn’t counterattacking, just running away the whole time.
Nancy’s chest filled with dread. As expected of a Cardinal Guardian, he was smarter than his underlings who just charged at her without thinking.
Exhausted, with no strength left to use her Possession, Nancy decided to taunt Eije to buy herself some time.
