Can Someone (Anyone!) Please Turn Off the Auto-Skill Setting?! - Chapter 49
“The fact that the Hero’s party is staying at our inn is truly an honor,” the innkeeper said, beaming with pride.
The inn that the village chief had recommended was indeed quiet. It seemed like there were no other guests besides the two of them.
“I’m afraid we don’t have a bed that suits the Hero’s height,” the middle-aged innkeeper explained with a bit of worry. But since there were no other guests, he offered to push two beds together.
“That won’t be necessary. This guy has a strange habit of enjoying sleeping with his feet sticking out of the bed,” Nancy said, dismissing the offer with a wave of her hand.
Aaron immediately protested, “When have I ever said that?”
But Nancy simply ignored him, declining the innkeeper’s kind gesture.
Even though the hero had turned down the offer, the innkeeper was determined to treat them well. And the same could be said for the village people. Despite Nancy choosing a quiet inn on purpose, the villagers soon arrived with food, drinks, and everything else, turning the inn into a lively gathering spot.
Aaron was especially popular.
“The hero is not me, it’s Nancy,” Aaron tried to correct them, but the women surrounding him showed no signs of losing interest.
Sure, he’s got a face worth staring at, Nancy thought begrudgingly. Even though she acknowledged it, she couldn’t help but feel irritated.
They had come here to rest, but with the loud festivities, she wasn’t getting any rest at all.
In the end, despite her usual tendency to enjoy freebies, Nancy declined the ongoing party, citing her exhaustion, and retreated to their room. However, no matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t fall asleep.
Tonight, the helm felt more uncomfortable than usual, and the boisterous noise from downstairs was impossible to ignore. She pressed a pillow over her helm in an attempt to drown out the sounds.
The muffled noise helped, but only for a short while. A shrill laugh pierced through the pillow, making it impossible for her to relax.
“…He said he doesn’t even like drinking, and he’s still down there having fun, huh?”
It wasn’t like she had a problem with people partying or making noise. But the thought of Aaron being down there, enjoying himself while she was left out, irritated her to no end.
It’s not like he isn’t allowed to have fun, but still…
Nancy couldn’t stand it anymore.
She stormed out of her room, planning to tell Aaron that they had to leave early tomorrow and that he should stop partying and get some sleep. Sure, it would kill his fun, but what else could she do? She was too upset to sleep, so why should he get to enjoy himself?
As she marched down the hallway with clenched fists, she suddenly heard a woman’s moaning.
Did I hear that right?
She stopped and listened again. This time, the sound was unmistakable, coming from one of the rooms.
“Ohhh, Hero… you shouldn’t be doing this…”
At the mention of the word “hero,” a surge of heat shot up to Nancy’s head.
Without thinking, she threw open the door and grabbed the familiar back of the man inside. The man jumped in shock.
“You… you…!”
Nancy was so stunned and furious that she couldn’t even form coherent words. She was about to give him a piece of her mind when a strange scent hit her nose.
At first, it was unfamiliar, but the more she inhaled it, the more she realized it was a scent she had encountered before. She couldn’t place where, but it was definitely familiar.
“Nancy.”
Aaron, who had been frozen in place, slowly turned to face her. Beneath him, the village woman lay in a dazed state, staring blankly at the ceiling, completely unaware of Nancy’s presence.
Aaron quickly moved to block Nancy’s view of the woman’s face, and when Nancy looked up at him, he gave her a soft smile.
He’s smiling? He’s not panicked, not apologizing, not even begging for forgiveness—he’s smiling?
Nancy’s rage boiled over. Her hand snapped open, ready to slap him across the face. The betrayal she felt made her head spin.
“Do you just go into heat whenever you see a woman, you animal…!”
But before she could land the slap, Aaron caught her wrist. Then, to her surprise, he pulled her into an embrace.
“Nancy. My dear Nancy.”
“Are you seriously saying that after I just caught you messing around with another woman?”
“Haha, are you jealous?”
“It’s not jealousy! How can you just leave me and do this…!”
Before she could finish her sentence, Aaron removed her helm. He tossed it to the floor with a dull thud and gently cradled her face.
Cheating without a shred of loyalty, yet he’s looking at me with such tenderness?
Nancy stared at him in disbelief. Aaron, sensing her fury, spoke in a sickly sweet tone to calm her down.
“That’s exactly what jealousy is, Nancy.”
Jealous, huh? How cute. Do you love me that much?
He melted her ears with sweet praise, calling her lovely and adorable in every possible way.
