Can Someone (Anyone!) Please Turn Off the Auto-Skill Setting?! - Chapter 50
Nancy thought he was trying to smooth things over too easily. Did he really think she was that easy to placate? This only made her angrier, and she jabbed her finger into his side.
Aaron chuckled, clearly tickled by the gesture.
“What you saw was a misunderstanding. That woman suddenly called me over and threw herself at me,” he explained.
“Liar.”
“It’s true. Even though I told her I have someone I love with all my heart, she wouldn’t listen, so I knocked her out.”
He gestured toward the woman lying limp on the bed.
“Look, she’s still unconscious.”
Nancy looked at the woman sprawled on the bed, not even blinking. It was true—she hadn’t woken up at all.
“But I heard her say, ‘You shouldn’t do this’…”
“She said that because I told her I was going to knock her out.”
“That wasn’t the tone I heard…”
Nancy was confused. Could he really be so bold if he were guilty of something?
As Aaron glanced at the unconscious woman, he gently grabbed Nancy’s face and turned her to look at him.
“You didn’t get a clear look, right? You only think you saw our lips touching.”
“I’m sure I saw something.”
“No, you’re not. You said it yourself—you weren’t sure. The only one I’ll ever kiss. You know that. My first and last kiss will always be yours because I love you with all my heart.”
Nancy wanted to believe him, but she couldn’t shake the uneasy feeling. It wasn’t like him to talk about love so openly.
“I love you.”
Despite her doubts, his voice was so sweet that it was disarming. His whispers kept peeling away her anger, even though she wasn’t ready to let it go.
“Why are you saying all this now when you usually don’t?”
“Because today, you look especially lovely. I stayed with them out of politeness, but honestly, I just wanted to be alone with you the whole time.”
“Really? You looked like you were enjoying yourself, surrounded by all those women, basking in their compliments.”
“Do you think being told I’m handsome by a hundred women is better than hearing it from you?”
Aaron planted soft kisses on Nancy’s cheeks, showing his affection.
Something still felt off to her. Maybe it was the faint smell of alcohol, or perhaps he was caught doing something suspicious and was trying to talk his way out of it.
Nancy’s eyes remained filled with suspicion as she stared him down, but Aaron only smiled wider.
“No matter how many women were around, I never paid attention to any of them. I was watching you the entire time. Didn’t you notice my gaze?”
His warm, smiling face carried a familiar, comforting scent. Nancy’s heart began to race.
She wanted to stay mad, but all her stress had vanished. She didn’t want to be the kind of woman who forgave so easily, yet his smile left her defenseless.
She bit her lower lip in an effort to rein in her emotions, but her heart had other plans. It was bouncing around uncontrollably, and there was no point in biting her lip anymore.
Nancy relaxed her grip on her lip, telling herself that it had nothing to do with the fact that he looked like he was about to kiss her. Her lips just hurt from biting them, that’s all.
As she silently argued with herself, a chilling voice came from behind her.
“Nancy.”
The second she heard it, she spun around. The voice calling her name belonged to none other than Aaron.
But wasn’t Aaron right in front of her, holding her and professing his love?
Nancy stared at the two Aarons in disbelief, her mind struggling to comprehend the situation. Then, it clicked—succubus. It had to be the succubus Bije, one of the Four Cardinal Guardians, known for her shapeshifting abilities!
Nancy didn’t need to think twice about which one was the real Bije.
“Why is there someone here with my face?” the Aaron in front of her growled, glaring suspiciously at the other Aaron.
One of them, the one whispering sweet nothings to her just moments ago, immediately grew wary of the other. Meanwhile, the other Aaron—his eyes filled with deadly intent—kept his focus entirely on Nancy, ignoring the doppelgänger completely.
A brief message flashed before Nancy’s eyes and then vanished.
【 Warning! Aaron is having dangerous thoughts about Nancy. 】
Dangerous thoughts? What does that mean!?
Nancy screamed internally as she shoved the fake Aaron—Bije—with all her might. She then turned to face the real Aaron, whose eyes were bloodshot with anger.
“No! It’s a misunderstanding!”
