Can Someone (Anyone!) Please Turn Off the Auto-Skill Setting?! - Chapter 7
Nancy entered the shop and glared out the window at the sky, but the rain continued to fall. As a result, there wasn’t a single person, let alone an ant, to be seen on the street or in the shop.
She still had 2,970 pieces of pork left and a debt of 12,980 gold remaining.
“Why is my luck so bad today? Is this just meant to kill me?”
After an hour of despair, holding her head in her hands, a soft chime sounded as the doorbell rang.
A customer, with a coat and hat pulled low, had entered. His coat was dripping water onto the floor, dirtying it, but Nancy was glad to see him nonetheless.
“Welcome!”
Even if it had been her father, who had abandoned her at the orphanage as a child, she couldn’t have sounded happier. She quickly picked up the tray of sample pork and approached him.
“Today’s recommended item is salted pork. If you’d like, please try a sample. It’s on the house!”
She smiled brightly as she offered the tray, and the man’s gaze fell on it.
Is he hesitant because he thinks I’ll charge him? Nancy reassured the customer, who stood there hesitantly.
“You can have one or two pieces, and I won’t charge you at all.”
No sooner had she finished speaking than the man snatched the tray from her and began devouring the pork pieces as if he were starving.
“Oh, haha. You must have been really hungry…”
She didn’t want to think of her rare customer as odd. Forcing a smile, she tried to understand him.
With his mouth full of pork, the man asked,
“This tastes good. How much more of this pork do you have? I want to buy all of it.”
“…All? You want to buy everything?”
Unable to believe it, she asked again, and the man nodded. He really intended to buy all 2,970 pieces. It wasn’t enough for him—he eyed every bit of food in the shop, even the sandwich Nancy had made for lunch but hadn’t had time to eat.
Is he a con artist? Is he going to take the goods and say he’ll pay later?
Nancy was suspicious of this extravagant customer.
【 Nancy’s Current Balance: 18,600 Gold 】
【 Weight Warning 】
But he wasn’t a con artist. He paid immediately, turning her from a debtor into a wealthy person in an instant.
She even received a weight warning because she now had so much money. Stunned, Nancy stared blankly at her balance as fireworks exploded on the screen.
【 Nancy’s 〈Commerce〉 skill has been upgraded to B-rank! 】
【 From now on, your chances of successful deals with others will slightly increase! 】
The skill 〈Commerce〉 was essential for any merchant. Not knowing the upgrade conditions, she had asked the guild and tried various things, all to no avail—yet here she was, leveling up.
It seems today really is a lucky day!
She felt like shouting for joy and running around the shop.
Unable to hold back his amusement at Nancy’s excitement, the man spoke up.
“I’ve bought a lot of goods, so I have a favor to ask.”
“What can I do for you? Would you like me to dance for you?”
“No, that’s not necessary.”
She had been about to show off the dance moves she had practiced for the Hero’s Festival, but the customer’s serious expression made her feel a bit disappointed.
“I can’t carry all of this by myself, so I’d like you to help me move it.”
“Oh, that’s your request. Of course, I’ll deliver it for you!”
Nancy told him to wait a moment while she loaded the goods onto a cart. But then a problem arose. There were so many items that they didn’t all fit on the cart.
Normally, she would have just made two trips. But today, she felt particularly generous. How could a small-time, no, now a medium-sized merchant who just made a 30,000 gold transaction, hesitate to invest 2,000 gold?
Nancy immediately upgraded the cart for 2,000 gold. As a result, the weight warning disappeared, and she felt slightly lighter.
Even after spending, she had more than 15,000 gold left. Nancy couldn’t believe the sudden windfall that had come her way.
But she couldn’t stay in this state of shock. Not wanting to keep the customer waiting, Nancy quickly loaded the goods onto the cart and carefully covered them with a tarp.
The man led the way, and Nancy followed, holding onto the cart.
The expensive, upgraded cart, despite being loaded with so many items, wasn’t heavy at all and moved smoothly.
Internally, she marveled at how money could make things so much easier. Though the rain lashed her face, it didn’t hurt at all. The feeling of being rich made her feel invincible.
Constantly checking to make sure the tarp wasn’t flipping over and letting the goods get wet, Nancy followed the man for about twenty minutes. They finally arrived in front of an old warehouse.
“Just put the goods inside the warehouse.”
Without suspicion, Nancy opened the warehouse door and went inside.
I’ll finish up here quickly, return, and warm up by the fire while balancing the books.
But then…
Something suddenly yanked at her ankle, pulling her down.
