Can Someone (Anyone!) Please Turn Off the Auto-Skill Setting?! - Chapter 81
Although Shije considered stabbing Aaron’s heart, he opted to repay him exactly as he had been attacked.
Aaron collapsed to his knees, clutching his stomach as he fell unconscious, while Shije took a step back.
“Aaron! Wake up! Aaron!”
Nancy knelt beside him, shaking him. It looked like he was losing too much blood. She’d seen him get grazed before, but he had never been this badly injured, and the tears came flooding out.
In her state of panic, her automatic skill activated just in time. Fortunately, the bleeding stopped quickly, but Aaron remained unconscious, no matter how much she shook him.
“How pathetic.”
Shije, standing next to the Demon King’s stone, let out a laugh, mocking the two of them.
“You have no companion left to fight for you, and you don’t have any strength left to fight yourself. You’re in a real bind now, hero.”
Nancy whipped her head around at the sound of Shije’s approaching footsteps.
“This is the result of your arrogance, thinking you could defeat us with just two people.”
Shije scraped his sword along the marble floor as he walked, clearly trying to intimidate her. And it was true—Nancy was in a desperate situation.
With no one left to help her and no strength left to fight, she felt cornered. She needed to find a way out, but nothing came to mind. Desperate to buy time, she shouted back.
“Give it up already! You’ve lost! I’m sick of dealing with you. Do you know what humans call you?”
“I don’t care what humans call us,” Shije replied dismissively.
“A fish that flops around after its head’s been cut off!”
Shije’s previously indifferent expression shifted. He sucked in air through her nose, seething with anger.
“Shut up! You don’t even know why we started this war! Demons can’t farm like you humans! We have no choice but to raid and plunder!”
Shije covered his face with his hands and began sobbing, talking about how hungry they had been, justifying their actions as necessary.
Nancy almost felt herself sympathize, but then she thought of the Ferron tribe.
“But you’re farming just fine now!”
“What are you talking about? Demons farming? That’s ridiculous!”
Shije looked genuinely confused. It was clear that he hadn’t realized how much time had passed and how the world had changed since the Demon King’s forces started the war.
Nancy tried to explain that there was no need to fight anymore, but Shije wouldn’t listen.
“As long as the Demon King returns, we’ll raid humans again and live off them like we used to.”
It was hopeless. Shije’s mind was stuck in the past, and neither persuasion nor intimidation worked. Was there really no other way?
Nancy desperately hoped the system would activate a miracle skill. Her wish must have reached someone because a message dinged in front of her, but it wasn’t the notification she expected.
Words of encouragement felt meaningless in such a dire situation. What strength? She didn’t have any left. Besides, she had never truly trained. Sure, Aaron had tried to get her to train several times, but she’d always made a face and he eventually gave up.
Just as she was about to dismiss it, another message popped up.
“That can’t be right. Are you sure you’re not confusing me with someone else?”
Nancy muttered, doubting the message. Just then, she felt a sudden sharp pain on her forehead, as if someone had flicked it. Wincing, she stepped back, and another message appeared.
Nights? Surely not…
Nancy finally understood what the message was implying. And just like that, a new skill activated.
Despite having no energy left, she found herself able to use possession once again. Gripping her sword, her body moved instinctively, targeting Shije’s injured spot hidden by magic.
Shije, believing Nancy was too weak to fight anymore, had let her guard down. In a panic, he changed his appearance to match Aaron’s.
“Nancy! I’m Aaron! I’m still unconscious!”
Nancy hesitated for a split second when she saw Aaron’s face, but she wasn’t fooled. Shije, realizing he had to defend himself, tried to hold on for 30 seconds. But to her surprise, Nancy kept attacking long after the 30 seconds had passed.
“You’ll never be able to mock me as a 30-second hero again! I’m a 3-minute hero now!”
Nancy delivered a powerful diagonal slash, sending Shije staggering. She quickly followed up with the sealing spell.
【 The hero’s mission is complete! 】
【 Skill automation system 〈The Hero Can’t Stand Losing〉 deactivated 】
【 Nancy can now return to Verus! 】
This time, it was truly over. No more tricks. No more false endings.
