Can Someone (Anyone!) Please Turn Off the Auto-Skill Setting?! - Chapter 83
Did he want to take care of her without actually making a move? Nancy couldn’t figure out what was going through Aaron’s mind. She squinted her eyes, glaring at him, which made him look slightly nervous.
“Alright then, I’ll stay with you for a bit,” she replied, and Aaron visibly relaxed.
Seeing the subtle smile tugging at his lips, Nancy felt her own irritation melt just a little.
And so, she headed to Aaron’s house. Honestly, she had some expectations. Aaron had downplayed it, saying it wasn’t anything special, but based on everything she’d deduced about him so far, she expected it to be a decent place at the very least. He certainly didn’t seem like someone from a poor family.
But when they arrived…
She was utterly speechless.
She hadn’t expected it to be this large and this luxurious.
“Why is there a fountain?”
Nancy’s mouth was gaping wide open at the beautifully sculpted fountain that looked like a piece of art.
Aaron shrugged it off.
“It’s been here for ages.”
“There was something like this in the Demon King’s castle too,” Nancy muttered.
“Yeah, but that was the Demon King’s castle,” he reminded her.
Now though, she was finally starting to realize something was a bit off.
Servants, having heard of the young master’s return, rushed over.
“This is Nancy, the hero. She’ll be staying here for a while, so make sure she’s treated well. And give her the largest bed.”
The butler led the way, gesturing politely as they entered a room. Nancy was struck by the size of it, wondering if they’d mistakenly brought her to the master bedroom.
The room was bigger than her entire shop, and the walls and bedding were lavishly decorated. Every piece of furniture looked expensive, and stepping out onto the balcony revealed a stunning view of the garden. She could even see small, dark shapes darting about—upon closer inspection, they turned out to be hunting dogs.
“Alright, spill it. What exactly is your family’s business?”
Nancy whispered as she approached Aaron, not wanting to ask in front of the butler for fear of looking ignorant.
“You’re asking what the house is for? It’s not a vacation home or anything,” Aaron said, missing her point entirely. “My father inherited it from my grandfather.”
“No, I mean what does your family do?”
Before he could answer, a middle-aged man entered, having heard of Aaron’s return.
“Perfect timing,” Aaron said.
Nancy’s jaw dropped when she recognized the man’s face.
It was none other than David, one of the Five Councilmen. The same David who had ordered her shop’s closure—the discriminatory jerk!
It seemed David recognized her too. While his tone was more polite this time, his gaze was just as unpleasant as before.
“I’ve heard of your situation. Please, stay here comfortably while your matters are resolved, Hero.”
David spoke with a smile before gesturing for Aaron to follow him. As the two men left, Nancy was left alone in the room with the butler and two maids.
They exchanged awkward glances before excusing themselves, telling her to call if she needed anything.
Once alone, Nancy cautiously sat on the bed. Having never been in such a luxurious room before, she couldn’t help but wonder how comfortable the bed was. As expected, her body sank into the soft mattress. The sensation was surprising and delightful.
She stroked the bedding with her hands and then pressed down on it a few more times. After a moment of indulging in her curiosity, she stood up.
Counting down silently in her head, three, two, one, she leaped onto the bed, face-first. It didn’t hurt at all. Excited, she began to ‘swim’ across the bed, kicking her legs and flailing her arms like a child.
In the middle of her antics, she heard a soft chuckle. Startled, she turned to see Aaron standing in the doorway, clearly struggling to hold back his laughter.
Her face flushed with embarrassment. She quickly sat up, trying to compose herself, but Aaron asked,
“Why’d you stop? It looked fun.”
At least try to hide your amusement when you say that, she thought, glaring at him as he failed to suppress his grin.
Still chuckling, Aaron approached and gently brushed her cheek with his hand.
“My father invited us to dinner.”
The same man who had called her a ‘lowly merchant’? Now he was inviting her to dinner?
Nancy frowned, clearly not excited by the prospect. But…
“What’s on the menu?” she asked, unable to suppress her curiosity.
Aaron shrugged casually.
“What do you want? If there’s something specific, I’ll let the kitchen staff know.”
“What if I asked for the most expensive fish or lobster?”
“Then I’ll tell them to prepare it.”
“……”
“What? Is that not the answer you were expecting?”
“It’s a good answer, but I’m feeling a profound sense of betrayal right now.”
