Come and Cry at My Funeral - Chapter 101
Seizure
Why does she end up getting seriously hurt or into accidents whenever left alone?
“She was already in bad shape when I saw her. We need to get a doctor quickly, so—”
Albireo’s annoying voice buzzed in his ear, but it didn’t really register in his mind. How bad could her condition be that she couldn’t come with him, even with someone she knew?
‘What did she do with the servant earlier?’
But all the disgusting curiosities that had risen to his throat vanished at the sight before him.
Beyond the dark bushes, Albireo saw a man bending over and peering around.
“Oh…? What’s this?”
The laugh, mixed with the music coming from inside the building, was unmistakably vile.
“Haha, you seemed completely drunk earlier, and here you are, collapsed like this?”
At that moment, Albireo, running alongside Izar, drew in a sharp breath.
‘Damn it!’
The invisibility spell he had cast to protect the lady had already worn off. But before Albireo could raise his hand to do anything, there was a sudden sound of bones hitting a fist.
The man, who had been reaching out to the woman lying on the ground, didn’t even have time to scream before he was knocked sideways and rolled over.
“Gah, ugh!”
The man blinked and gasped, spitting blood and a front tooth onto the dirt.
Izar, who had struck the man with the back of his hand, didn’t even glance at him, instead kneeling next to the motionless woman.
From the tips of his toes to his heart, he felt as if he were freezing. He had idly thought she was unnecessarily beautiful when they rode in the carriage. Even when entering the banquet, he thought the same.
But now, she was a mess, like a dead animal discarded in the forest.
“Freesia.”
He quickly knelt, lifting her upper body onto his thighs.
She was even more limp than when they had left the banquet. Her face was drenched in cold sweat, and she was convulsing intermittently as if she had a fever.
“Freesia, wake up. Freesia!”
He called her name urgently, but her closed eyes did not open. He had never felt such bile rising in his throat before.
Izar hurriedly wrapped Freesia in his coat and lifted her up. Her ice-cold body made him feel like his own body might freeze.
But before entering the banquet hall, Izar looked down at that man— the writhing vermin on the ground.
Wasn’t he the idle son of some noble who had approached Izar with countless words of gratitude?
“You.”
“Y-Your Grace.”
Although he was a high-ranking noble in the capital, the third son, abandoned by his parents, was now completely sober.
While drunk, he had heard Atria subtly mention that her sister was outside sobering up, so he had wandered around.
Thinking she had lived as a bastard commoner, he thought she might blush if he teased her a little… Though he was somewhat aroused by her unconscious state, he hunched over to hide his bulging pants and now pleaded with Izar.
“Your Grace, I swear…! I had no ulterior motives. It’s just that the lady suddenly appeared, and…! Ugh!”
Izar’s boot connected directly with the drunk man’s nose. The impact caused blood vessels in his face to burst, and another tooth, barely hanging onto his gums, was violently expelled.
“Gah, ugh, if you do this, ugh!”
“Why. Go ahead and boast about it to others.”
The hands holding Freesia still felt cold to him, but Izar’s heart and lungs were burning with rage.
“Tell them you were beaten because you tried to disgrace Izar Arcturus’ wife and got caught.”
“N-No, that’s not it, really—!”
“From today on, your family will no longer receive support from the Arcturus household.”
“Guh… P-Please, Your Grace—”
Ordinary knights couldn’t handle monsters. Only Izar and his elite knights could slaughter them without shedding blood.
So, without that support, the family would have to desperately fend for themselves. Especially during the monster-plagued spring or amidst the current ‘unusual changes’…
But none of that mattered to Izar right now. He needed to get back to the Arcturus townhouse immediately.
