Dear Contract Husband, I Didn't Know You Were Like This? - Chapter 47
“You need to rest.”
Maya’s plan was thwarted once again by Tristan’s firm attitude.
“But you’ve already healed me… I’m fine now. Let’s leave immediately.”
“That’s not possible. I can’t compromise even a bit this time.”
Truly a Grand Duke. His tenacity knew no bounds.
“You’re still not in good condition, Maya. What you need is rest.”
Tristan’s overly caring demeanor, as if he were a royal physician, felt strange to Maya. Given how much Tristan had yielded for her sake, she found it hard to refuse outright.
She needed an excuse. An excuse to leave immediately.
“We need to take the wyvern with us. How are you planning to move it to the cave?”
Sighing, Tristan grabbed the rope Maya was holding.
“Don’t forget I’m also of the Bayarden lineage.”
…It seemed this wouldn’t work either.
Honestly, Maya was surprised to learn that Tristan possessed such power.
“What can the Bayarden lineage do?”
The Bayarden family had always been shrouded in secrecy.
It was only now that she learned about their healing powers and that they had similar hearing and eyesight to hers.
Now that she thought about it, it was rare for her to have a proper conversation about the Bayarden family.
“I haven’t learned it, but I’m compatible with magical power, so if needed, I could probably learn magic.”
“Oh, I’m quite far from magical power.”
Their powers were similar yet different.
So, the Bayarden family is like this. While on their way back to the cave, the two of them exchanged stories about their respective families’ powers.
The wyvern, caught in the rope, was dragged along, snoring. The discomfort was less of an issue than the accumulated fatigue from being dragged around right after waking up.
Tristan handed jerky to Maya, who had taken a seat.
Already hungry, Maya was glad to take the jerky and set a timer.
“Only ten minutes. Then we leave immediately.”
Tristan firmly shook his head.
“Two hours.”
No, wait. He suggested only 30 minutes a while ago, but how did that turn into two full hours?
“No, 30 minutes!”
“Agreed.”
“…”
Even though they had reached an agreement, why did it feel like she had been outmaneuvered?
‘Something feels off.’
Regardless, Maya felt good about Tristan’s caring actions, even if he scolded her. It was all out of concern for her.
‘This must be what real life feels like.’
Tristan came closer to Maya and touched her forehead again.
“As I thought, you haven’t fully recovered.”
After handing the rope to Maya and briefly leaving, Tristan returned with a wet handkerchief and a bottle of water.
“You should lie down for a while.”
“Are you taking care of me?”
“Yes, I never thought I’d be nursing someone at my age.”
An internal battle waged within Maya.
Maya, you need to leave quickly now. And you’re being nursed by the Grand Duke? Remember, he’s someone you’ll have to serve in the future.
Maya, it doesn’t matter what’s happening right now. Awakening? Just get beaten by the snake monster, and you’re good. Tristan is your ‘husband’ right now. When else will you get this kind of care?
The devilishly persuasive argument won.
Maya obediently lay down.
‘I’ve always wanted to be taken care of.’
Whenever she was sick during my childhood, she was always cooped up alone in her room. She would swallow the groans of discomfort and just wait it out and eventually get better.
Maya disliked being ill for that reason.
It became natural for her to endure the discomfort of muscle aches and illness without showing it.
A cold handkerchief was placed on her forehead. It felt good to have the heat drawn out.
“That feels nice.”
“Make sure to drink some water when you wake up.”
His voice was as soothing as a lullaby.
“Hm, I wonder if the floor is too cold.”
Mumbling, Tristan lifted Maya’s head and placed it on something. It felt harder than it was soft. Opening her eyes, Maya found herself facing Tristan directly.
“…Am I really using what I think I’m using as a pillow?”
“My lap.”
“Huh?”
“The floor of the cave is too cold for someone who’s sick.”
“That makes sense, but your thighs are pretty hard too, you know.”
