Disastrous Romance - Chapter 13
Chapter 13
“That crazy b*tch!”
Elijah saw Kai on the verge of something terrible and threw herself forward. At the same time, an intense, painful light filled her vision, forcing her to shield her eyes with her hand. Her forward momentum stuttered to an awkward halt.
A swarm of fairy vermin suddenly converged, forming a dense cloud that blocked her path and obscured Kai from view. They resembled the ones she’d defeated earlier, but these were larger, their skin-tight covering a sickly green.
While still grotesque, their appearance was less shocking the second time around. Instead, Elijah’s brow furrowed in annoyance. “Ugh, seriously…”
Unsure what was happening behind the buzzing mass, she anxiously nibbled her lower lip and gripped the hilt of her sword, preparing to cut through them quickly.
A faint mana pulsed, causing the silver blade to glow dimly. Focusing on her breathing, she felt her remaining strength.
Whirr—
The fan-like wings of the fairy vermin beat against each other, creating a gust of wind. Elijah focused on the sensation gathering in her chest and raised her sword. The mana, significantly amplified since entering the fairy forest, swirled gently around her heart.
With the fairy vermin clustered so tightly, aiming wasn’t necessary. She swung her sword in a wide arc.
With the unsettling sensation of slicing through soft fruit, five or six fairy vermin dispersed in bursts of green light. With each mana-infused swing, more of the creatures vanished.
Focused solely on efficiency, Elijah cut her way through the swarm with concise movements. All emotion drained from her face as her pink hair swirled around her with each strike. A sheen of sweat glistened on her pale skin. The fairy vermin only buzzed more frantically.
After twenty swings, ignoring the stinging sensations against her skin, the swarm thinned enough to reveal what lay beyond.
Whine—
“Mistress… Ugh… Ah…” Kai’s struggling cries mingled with the whirring of wings. Elijah caught a glimpse of the Fairy King crawling over him, shamelessly rubbing her body against his lower half. Kai writhed and bucked, desperately trying to escape his bonds, but to no avail.
Gripping her long sword with both hands, Elijah lunged forward. The combination of rage and focus made her head spin. After ten concentrated strikes, she finally reached the end of the dense swarm.
Without hesitation, she ran towards Kai. The Fairy King was now grinding her hips against his thighs. Kai, still bound to the platform, could only weep pathetically.
“You crazy b***h! Get off him!” Elijah shouted, thrusting her sword horizontally towards the Fairy King.
Expecting resistance or evasion, Elijah was surprised when the Queen simply allowed herself to be impaled.
“Eek! My… my consciousness…!”
Despite the sword deeply embedded in her waist, the Fairy King continued to cling to Kai. Instead of blood, shimmering green sparkles flowed from the wound. She didn’t seem to register the pain.
Feeling less guilty, Elijah withdrew her sword and struck again with greater force. The Fairy King, seemingly devoid of any fighting spirit, only screamed.
“Agh! Stop!”
The second blow sent her tumbling from the platform. Ignoring her disintegrating, glittering body, she stubbornly tried to crawl back towards Kai, her obsession unwavering even as her form dissipated.
“You’re the one who needs to stop! Ugh, get away!” Elijah recoiled in disgust. Finally, a thrust through the heart stilled the Fairy King. Her bright green eyes bulged, and her screaming face froze into a waxen mask.
“Ah…” Elijah, momentarily frozen herself, jumped as the Fairy King’s green eyes rolled towards her.
“Wh-what? You’re not dead?”
Gone was the crazed screaming. The Fairy King simply gaped, her expression vacant. As Elijah raised her sword again, the Fairy King mumbled in apparent shock, “The curse… it’s broken…”
“Curse?”
At that moment, white text flooded Elijah’s vision.
Ding!

‘A hidden story? I’ve never heard of that.’ Elijah quickly scanned the notifications before turning her attention back to Kai. She could check the details later; escaping this strange forest was the priority.
“Kai!” She immediately severed the vines binding his hands and feet.
“Sob…” His eyes were red-rimmed and brimming with tears, evidence of his ordeal. Elijah felt a lump in her throat. She pulled Kai’s upper body upright and embraced him, holding his head against her chest. The warmth of his presence calmed her.
“…I’m sorry. I was too late, wasn’t I?”
“…No. Thank you for coming.”
“It’s okay, it’s okay.” He trembled slightly in her arms. He must have been terrified. A wave of guilt washed over Elijah, her heart heavy with the knowledge that she was his only protector, and she had failed him.
“Ha…”
“Shh, it’s alright now.” After a few soothing pats, his ragged breathing calmed. The round head nestled against her chest felt unusually fragile. Kai, buried against her as if he’d been waiting for this moment, wore a soft smile she couldn’t see.
“Honestly, where did you lose your clothes…?” Elijah sighed, exasperated. It hadn’t been that long since she’d bought him a new outfit.
