Don't Ask, It'll Hurt If You Know - Chapter 15
After Aaron had told her to brace herself, she had been quite tense, but Chloe’s physical condition wasn’t as bad as she had worried. At first glance, she didn’t look like someone injured badly enough to be in a coma.
The reason she couldn’t regain consciousness must be because my soul had entered Bianca’s body.
If, just if, she couldn’t return to normal, if she had to live as Bianca Lloyd forever, what would happen to this body?
……It would eventually die, wouldn’t it?
“Lady, if it’s too difficult to look, you don’t have to.”
Aaron spoke with concern upon seeing her pale face. Chloe took a deep breath to calm her churning emotions that were stirred for different reasons.
“I’m fine. More importantly, have you found out why Chloe won’t wake up?”
Chloe asked with a hint of hope, thinking that if doctors had found the reason, they might have also found a solution.
“No. Not just Dr. Bertrand, our family physician, but all the famous doctors from the capital have examined her. They can only guess it’s because of a head injury, but none have found the exact cause.”
“I see…….”
She had hoped, but it was as expected. Of course, there was no way doctors could discover this nonsensical phenomenon where a soul had left its body and entered someone else’s, leaving the original body in a coma.
Even I still can’t tell if all of this is reality or a dream.
Chloe bit her lip as she looked down at her own face lying there like death. It felt strange to see her sleeping face with her own eyes. She couldn’t explain it exactly, but what was certain was that it wasn’t good, yet not bad enough to make her angry either.
Knock knock-
“Excuse me, Young Master.”
A servant entered the room and approached Aaron to state their purpose.
“The Madam is looking for you, Young Master.”
Aaron nodded, then said to Chloe.
“I’ll have to go now.”
It meant they should leave together. Chloe looked down at her own face, which though familiar, felt strangely foreign today, and after a moment’s hesitation, asked,
“Could I…… stay a bit longer?”
“That’s…….”
“I promise I won’t cause any trouble and will stay quiet.”
‘Don’t cause trouble and stay quiet.’ That was what Aaron often said to Chloe. But hearing such words from his sister’s friend felt strange, making him frown.
“Why are you looking at me like that?”
“……No, it’s nothing.”
Aaron said with a faint smile, as if he had never made such an expression.
“Then I’ll be back shortly, please wait a moment.”
* * *
After Aaron left, Chloe, now alone, poked at her original body here and there. Given there was no reaction even though it should have hurt quite a bit, she was definitely in a coma.
“Then where did this woman’s soul go?”
If I entered Bianca’s body, it must mean this woman’s soul has entered someone else’s body too…….
While fidgeting with Bianca’s body and pondering, Chloe lightly slapped her cheek.
“I’ll think about that later.”
Because that wasn’t what was important right now. There was something she had to do before Aaron returned. It was also the reason she had stayed behind.
Chloe opened the dresser drawer and gathered some gold coins. Since she didn’t know how long she would have to live as Bianca Lloyd, she wanted to secure money for that time.
“If I had known this would happen, I would have saved more gold coins.”
She hadn’t accumulated much money since returning to the mansion after graduating from the academy. There hadn’t been any need to carry money separately since she could just ask the butler if she needed anything.
While searching the room for any money she might have forgotten about, a gold coin she had put in her pocket fell out.
Rolling- The gold coin that had rolled across the floor disappeared under the tablecloth-covered sofa table.
“Ugh, how annoying.”
Chloe made a sour face as she crawled under the table. Bianca’s small frame was completely hidden by the table.
“Found it.”
Just as Chloe found the coin and was about to pull her feet out from under the table, the firmly closed bedroom door opened. Startled, Chloe quickly pulled back her partially extended foot and curled up like a snail.
‘Wait, why am I hiding?’
It’s not like she had been caught gathering money, there was no reason to hide. If anything, this would look more suspicious. As Chloe was about to come out, she froze when she saw a familiar face through the tablecloth.
‘It’s Ian!’
