Don't Be Holy! - Chapter 57
Contrary to many people’s expectations, Magnus Shinote did not dislike his younger brother, Rubel.
It was a rare thing, considering that Rubel, who had inherited nothing, had achieved more and garnered more attention than Magnus, who had seized everything for himself. Moreover, Rubel’s devout faith was often the subject of ridicule, with whispers reaching Magnus’s ears that if it weren’t for that faith, Rubel would have killed him and taken everything long ago.
But to be honest, it wasn’t because Magnus was a good person. Magnus, who could be bold when he needed to be and timid at other times, simply thought it looked best to others if he treated his younger brother as if he were a great man.
And since his wife, Nora, was already busy hating Rubel to death, Magnus felt no need to take on that role himself.
However, when news arrived that Rubel had gone missing, Magnus was the first to express joy the moment he returned to his room with Nora after pretending to be somber in front of the family.
Unconsciously, he closed his eyes tightly and hugged his wife. “It’s done. It’s finally done.” he muttered.
Of course, he had never truly wished for Rubel to die.
But then…….
“What?”
Magnus glared at the servant who had interrupted the joyous banquet with urgent news.
The servant, pale-faced, nodded as if to confirm that he had spoken correctly.
“Yes. They say he’s alive.”
At the servant’s firm tone, Magnus lowered his head deeply, as if he had a headache, and ran his hand through his hair. His friends, who had been dancing, pestered him, asking if he had received bad news.
Not wanting to dampen the mood, Magnus immediately stood up and let out a hearty laugh, shouting,
“How could that be! On such a fine day. Quick, bring another bottle of Blue Shadow! Dominic looks parched!”
With that, he made a show of being generous and then naturally tried to leave the room. He signaled to the servant to follow him outside for a more detailed discussion.
But at that very moment, a woman who had been whispering with someone nearby naturally grabbed Magnus’s hand and pulled him back.
Her touch was smooth, languid, and intoxicating, like a snake’s.
“Where are you going?”
Before he knew it, Magnus’s upper body leaned toward the woman, and she wrapped her arm around his neck, smiling coquettishly. Magnus left a brief kiss on her cheek and said.
“I’m preparing a gift for you.”
The woman laughed softly and let him go, as if she would let it slide this time. Once free from her arm, Magnus’s face turned cold, as if nothing had happened, and he hurriedly left with the servant to the terrace.
“So? Where is he? Is he alright?”
He asked urgently.
Half of him genuinely hoped Rubel was safe, while the other half hoped for something else.
The servant relayed the information obtained through a letter Petro had sent to Abel, Rubel’s younger brother. Since Abel had already written in detail to the family, it wasn’t particularly difficult to obtain the information.
“Petro went on a support mission and saw Lord Rubel. It turns out he wasn’t missing, he was just on a mission. He looked healthy, and from what I heard, he was injured at first but someone saved him, so he’s fine now. He’s expected to return soon.”
“Surviving when the entire knight order was wiped out. He’s a lucky guy.”
Or perhaps, as everyone says, he’s just someone who’s deeply loved by God?
Magnus muttered this and tightly closed his eyes. The servant hesitated, then cautiously spoke after gauging his master’s mood.
“But it seems he’s found someone.”
As expected, Magnus’s eyes, which had been gloomily closed, shot open at those words.
“What?”
“A woman he met during the mission. The one who saved his life, apparently.”
Magnus let out a scoffing laugh and immediately denied it.
“Don’t spout nonsense. That guy’s as cold as a stone. No, even a stone has some stiffness to it. He’s not even capable of being a stone.”
Clearly, the servant’s implication about the young master’s love life made him uncomfortable, and he coughed awkwardly.
Magnus ignored the frivolous information and focused on the news that Rubel was alive and returning. Since it came through Petro, it was likely reliable.
“This is trouble. If the Emperor bestows another great reward, Nora will be so jealous.”
The servant briefly wondered if it was really Nora who would be jealous but dutifully said what he was supposed to.
“So, what will you do?”
