Don't Be Holy! - Chapter 58
Magnus snapped in irritation.
“What do you mean, what will I do? Are you telling me to kill my loyal brother, who’s surrounded by a support team?”
No one had said or even thought such a thing, but Magnus acted as if the idea itself was horrifying. He glared at the servant, then suddenly noticed the thin gold bracelet the servant was wearing and reached out.
“Hey, you. Give me that.”
“Huh?”
“You bought it with the money I gave you, didn’t you? I’ll pay you back later, so hand it over.”
“W-why?”
“I told Isabella I’d get her a gift. I’ll give you something better.”
Grumbling, the servant untied the bracelet and handed it over.
“You’ve been spending too much time with that woman lately. What if Madam finds out?”
“Nora doesn’t care about this kind of thing. You know that.”
“That’s because you usually change women within a month. But you’ve been with this one for two months now.”
Magnus vigorously polished the bracelet with his sleeve, then held it up by one end, letting the thin gold thread glimmer in the moonlight.
“What do you think? Will it suit Isabella?”
The servant shrugged.
“Beautiful things appeal to everyone, regardless of gender, as long as they have an eye for beauty.”
“You’re such a show-off. All you’re good at is spending money.”
Magnus tapped the servant lightly, and the servant pouted before suddenly noticing Isabella approaching the terrace and quickly composing himself. Magnus, noticing this, turned around and hid the bracelet behind his back.
The woman leaned halfway against the doorframe, spinning her wine glass and smiling quietly.
“W-why did you come out?”
Magnus stammered nervously as the woman approached with her unique gait. It was this gait that had first captivated him—languid, as if each step were steeped in luxury and indulgence, yet suddenly appearing bored.
“Well, without you, people were looking down on me and bothering me.”
She pouted and leaned her chest against Magnus’s arm.
The servant saw through her light flirtation but also knew that Magnus, despite being a high-ranking noble with a strict wife, was weak to such blatantly seductive gestures. So, he understood why Magnus was so taken with her.
But thinking about it, there was something strange.
Over the past few decades, since before Magnus’s marriage, women of this type had always been by his side, but none had stayed as long as this one. Why was she able to hold onto him for so long? There were many beautiful women, and she didn’t seem to have any particularly unique charm compared to the others.
Was there some inexplicable allure? Like a witch?
As he pondered this, Isabella’s eyes met his. The servant, startled, instinctively bowed and stepped back. Isabella, noticing the quick-witted servant, inwardly praised him and turned her gaze back to Magnus.
“So? What did you steal this time?”
Magnus laughed heartily.
“You noticed?”
He brought out the hidden bracelet and fastened it around her wrist.
“Should I get you something else?”
The woman lifted her slender arm and admired the sparkling bracelet.
“No, I like it. Collecting your servant’s things is kind of my hobby.”
She said it jokingly, teasing Magnus about how often he did this. Magnus knew it too, but hearing it made him feel unexpectedly irritated, even surprising himself.
He hadn’t realized he had such possessiveness.
But he couldn’t help asking.
“Why? What does he mean to you?”
The woman’s eyes widened. She smiled happily and said.
“It’s proof that you’re sincere about me. Only someone who truly cares would go through the trouble of taking something for me.”
She expected Magnus to laugh heartily, but he only smiled awkwardly. Just then, a friend called for Magnus from inside.
Magnus quickly said they should go back in, placing his hand on the woman’s back as she wore a thin dress.
But at that moment, the woman glanced into the dark forest beyond and turned her head slightly.
“Wait, darling. I’ll stay out a bit longer and get some fresh air.”
At that moment, Magnus thought he saw a faint red glint in her eyes. Perhaps this was the answer to the servant’s question about why he had kept her by his side for so long. Her bewitching beauty had drawn him in.
Magnus nodded obediently and went inside first.
Left alone, the woman leaned lightly on the railing, looking at the forest, and let out a short whistle.
Suddenly, an owl appeared, flying toward her and transforming into an envelope that slipped into her hand.
The woman flipped her hair and opened the envelope.
“Now, let’s see if the redhead is inside.”
