Don't Be Holy! - Chapter 60

Meanwhile, for Eir, the endless night continued as well.
Eir lay on the hard floor next to a perfectly good bed. The room was so small that only one bed could barely fit, so not only was the floor hard, but there was also no space to stretch out properly. Still, she forced herself to curl up like a shrimp and lie down.
If she just turned her body a little to the side, maybe there would be more space.
But with her arm dangling and connected to Rubel’s wrist, she couldn’t even twist her body to stretch her legs.
‘Isn’t this just too much?’
Eir trembled her lips in frustration.
She had already been threatened not to move an inch, or else he would publicly declare her a criminal, so she was doing her best not to move. But there wasn’t a single part of her body that wasn’t uncomfortable, and her mind was consumed by the thought.
It’s uncomfortable. It’s uncomfortable. I’m going to die!
The sleepless nights had been going on for days.
A person needs to be able to sleep to even think about sleeping!
Meanwhile, Rubel Shinote lay on the bed on his side, quietly closing his eyes and breathing evenly.
Eir glared at him, thinking about how she wanted to press his sharp nose and beautifully shaped forehead until they were squashed like mud.
Twitch.
Unable to hold her raised hand any longer, she lowered it slightly.
It seemed like he was still fine.
Eir swallowed and pulled her hand down a little more.
Then, a voice as if from a ghost.
“Do you want to be kicked out?”
Rubel stopped Eir in a slightly lowered voice, as if he were half-asleep. Eir, out of habit, almost muttered “I’m sorry.” but couldn’t hold back and suddenly sat up, pulling on his arm.
“Ah! Fine, do it!”
Rubel’s arm was forcefully pulled. He opened his eyes and glared at her with a look that said, “Has this woman gone mad?”
Eir, not stopping there, suddenly pushed herself onto his bed. Rubel, flustered, instinctively moved away and shouted.
“Have you lost your mind?”
But Eir shamelessly stared back at him and replied.
“Yes. A little. You’d be like this too if you hadn’t slept properly for a week.”
“I’ve gone a month without sleep before, but I’ve never been like this.”
Her knee dug into his side. Eir, almost melting from the feel of the straw-filled bed and soft blanket, buried her face in the blanket and curled up into a ball.
Her muttering complaints continued.
“It’s hard. It’s so hard I’m going crazy. I’m not a knight like you. You know that, right? Please say you know that.”
Her half-crazed rambling was quite a sight. Rubel sighed and roughly ran his hand through his hair. His side itched, and the sensation of another person’s body invading the narrow bed felt incredibly strange.
When she had sobbed as if she had lost the world just because he took off her clothes, where did this audacity come from?
Rubel felt like scolding her for her lack of restraint. He pressed her forehead with his finger, tilting her head back.
Through her half-closed eyes, her green pupils, drowsy with sleep, were visible.
“When we first set out, you were clearly grateful for your current status and treatment, weren’t you?”
“That was…….”
Eir’s words caught in her throat as she pouted and lowered the corners of her mouth.
Of course, what he said was completely true without a hint of exaggeration.
But that was only because she had expected to walk the entire way like a slave, but instead was granted the honor of riding a horse.
And because, unlike her expectation of being pelted with stones by people along the way, she was able to eat the same soup as Rubel and wash with cold water.
For the first two days? Yes.
She was grateful. So grateful that she repeated synonyms twice. She even cried, saying she didn’t know how to express her gratitude for Rubel letting her ride his horse and protecting her.
But even that had its limits. After a week of being tied to Rubel’s wrist, unable to move away or even budge, she was now at her wit’s end. If only she could sleep!
Eir rebelliously raised her eyebrows and slapped away Rubel’s hand pressing on her forehead.
“That’s that, and this is this. How is this any different from torture? If I were a criminal, at least I could sleep!”
“Well, you could. You’d probably just pass out from exhaustion from the torture.”
His tone wasn’t meant to scare her but simply to state the facts, so Eir quickly corrected herself.
“Of course, I’m satisfied with my current position. I’m truly grateful. That’s not a lie. It’s just that I haven’t slept, so I’m a little…… reckless. Anyway, I’ll just sleep for a bit.”
Then, she pushed his body slightly (though it didn’t budge) and curled up in the remaining space, starting to sleep. Rubel looked down at her, dumbfounded, then lifted his tied arm to pull Eir, who had fallen into a light sleep, back to reality.
“If you answer me honestly, I’ll let you sleep.”
“What is it?”
“How on earth did you hide your mark?”
