Don't Be Obsessed With Your Cat Butler - Chapter 10
Nox was about to chase after Cola, who had darted away, when the suspicious woman suddenly burst through the door.
“Cola!”
Sia, having caught a glimpse of Cola just as he jumped down through the large window below, hurriedly ran in the direction he had fled, but he had already disappeared from sight.
“Why is he so fast, seriously….”
Come to think of it, even back when they were getting close, Cola’s reflexes had always been exceptional. Catching her breath briefly, she turned to check the tree branch where she had squeezed out the churu.
“He ate it.”
Believing he had come because he caught the scent of the churu, she pulled out another stick from her pocket and spread it again on the branch.
“At least he didn’t look hurt—that’s a relief.”
This place was practically a cat paradise, so even if she wasn’t around, Cola might be getting along fine. That thought brought her some comfort.
“That’s a relief. Really.”
Just as Sia murmured and was about to head back into the inn, she caught sight of a black silhouette in the corner of the building and quickly turned her head. A black cat was staring intently at her, its front paws neatly gathered beneath it.
“Cola?”
Karin’s words about black cats being symbols of misfortune resurfaced in her mind, and Sia naturally assumed it was Cola, rushing over. But once she got closer, the appearance and size were completely different.
If Cola felt like a young adult cat, the black cat before her was clearly fully grown. And its appearance—he looked like one of those strikingly handsome cat memes she’d seen on the internet.
Facing off in a strange tension with the majestic black cat, Sia murmured with wide eyes.
“…Didn’t they say there weren’t many black cats here?”
Karin had said black cats were a symbol of misfortune, but being reminded of Cola made Sia happy to see another one like him, and she carefully approached. Even as she got right up close, the cat didn’t run, which made her inexplicably excited.
Sia crouched in front of Nox and gently picked him up. His calm demeanor lifted her spirits. Cradling the cat in her arms, Sia spoke softly.
“Sorry for picking you up without asking. But I was so happy to see black fur, I just couldn’t let you go.”
At first, this place had felt like heaven because of all the cats, but after two weeks, she inevitably started to feel homesick.
She looked down at the cat nestled quietly in her arms, gazing back at her. She had seen many cats since arriving here, but this was the first time she had encountered one with heterochromatic eyes.
“Black fur and odd eyes? Oh, you’re just too charming.”
Sia sat down on a nearby chair and lifted the cat in her arms to meet his gaze. Staring blankly at the strikingly handsome feline face, she couldn’t help herself and kissed him.
Nox’s gold and blue eyes widened in utter disbelief.
“Hehe, I didn’t mean to! You’re just so handsome that I kissed you without thinking!”
He had been too stunned to react properly for a while now. He was experiencing more new things in a single day than he had in his entire life.
Meeting a cat just like himself, getting groomed out of the blue… And yet, why had it all felt so good?
And then, the sensation of being lifted without hesitation by this suspicious woman… he knew it was something he would never forget. Had anyone ever embraced his animalized form with human hands before?
Grooming was a first for him, but so was being held in someone else’s warm embrace.
For some reason, his heart had been aching strangely for a while now. It was probably due to the wild thudding of his heartbeat.
As he gazed dazedly up at her, a gentle hand stroked his face, filling him with bliss. The tingle from her touch far surpassed the grooming he had received earlier, and before he realized it, a purr escaped from his throat.
When her neatly trimmed fingers scratched under his chin, his whole body trembled with pleasure.
“If I could be the butler of a cat as handsome as you, I’d gladly spend my entire salary on you. Please, will you live with me?”
Just like she had always done with stray cats, Sia asked for his permission as if making a marriage proposal.
However, she failed to notice something—the cat’s tail had stiffened straight up.
Sia had no idea.
She didn’t know that all the cats she had encountered in this world were actually cat werebeasts who could shift into animal form.
She didn’t know anything about the ruthless wild instincts that lurked beneath their cute exteriors.
Caught off guard by her words, Nox let himself get swept up in an emotion he couldn’t name, and closed his eyes.
It was a complex feeling, but the decision was simple.
Nox answered with a long, drawn-out meow.
He would allow it.
Yes. He would be with her.
