Don't Be Obsessed With Your Cat Butler - Chapter 21
Becoming a real, actual butler
Sia felt her appetite stir as the dressing made with orange and lemon hit her taste buds, and she diligently chewed her food.
While she did, Nox quietly watched her eat as he was seated across from her.
Each time she moved slightly, her black hair slipped down past her shoulders, catching his eyes like a hypnotic wave.
No. More precisely, the enchanting herbal scent clinging to her hair kept tickling the tip of his nose.
And it wasn’t affecting just him.
The surrounding servants were also visibly agitated, their fingertips twitching with disturbed expressions.
Cedric, left with no choice, served Nox his steak first.
As if he’d been waiting, Nox cut into it with elegant form and brought a neat slice to his mouth.
Sia chewed on her salad while observing the steak in front of Nox.
Thanks to her time working at Karin’s shop, she could tell right away how high the quality of the meat was and how rich the sauce’s aroma was.
Sensing her gaze, Nox lifted his eyes subtly.
Likewise watching, Cedric quietly approached and asked Sia,
“You’re still having your salad, but shall I bring the steak as well, Miss?”
Standing right beside her, Cedric had a slightly flushed face, unusually so. Likely due to the scent that sharply pricked at his nose.
Especially whenever she moved her hand, the scent grew even more intense.
“Ah, yes. Then… if it’s not too much trouble?”
“Of course.”
Cedric forced himself to turn around, though his steps seemed reluctant, and headed into the kitchen.
When he returned, he carried a plate with a large steak on it.
Looking at the steak placed in front of her, Sia thought, when it came to steak, at least, this place was certainly generous.
As if she’d been waiting, Sia cut off a big piece of the steak and stuffed it into her mouth.
She did wish, a little, to eat gracefully like the man before her.
But because of habits ingrained since childhood, she couldn’t help herself.
Her family, influenced by her grandfather, had deep-rooted male-preference traditions.
There was absolutely no way for her to surpass her older brother, who had been born the eldest son and golden child.
Naturally, even when it came to food, she was treated differently.
So whenever she managed to get her share of meat, she’d developed a habit of cramming it into her mouth all at once.
The adults used to click their tongues and say, “She’s such a greedy child.”
Even after she got older and became self-conscious about it, fixing the habit wasn’t easy.
“…Do you like steak too?”
Sia, still chewing, covered her mouth with her hand and answered quietly.
“Yes…”
“You eat greens well and meat well. Are you an omnivore?”
It was the first time someone had asked her point-blank if she was an omnivore.
Sia swallowed her bite and gave him a bewildered look.
“Are there people who aren’t?”
Humans couldn’t survive on just meat.
They needed a variety of nutrients—carbohydrates, fats, vitamins, minerals.
Even for a werebeast, they weren’t all that different from humans, were they? Physically too, right?
“…I see.”
Once again, Nox was struck by an odd impression.
Cat-type werebeasts had different dietary preferences depending on the species.
Most were carnivores, yes, but not all. And even carnivores didn’t eat only meat.
Her comment, which seemed to lack that common knowledge, left Nox’s thoughts tangled.
The two didn’t exchange any further words until the meal ended.
After having strawberry tart and black tea for dessert, Sia cautiously opened her mouth.
“Then… what exactly will I be doing from now on?”
Just how precious was this cat, she wondered, that despite all these staff, they still needed to hire someone separately.
And of all people, her, a complete amateur.
It only deepened her confusion, but since it was supposedly a rare cat, her curiosity surged.
