Don't Pick Up the Male Lead in the Apocalypse - Chapter 12
My face was the same. The corners of my eyes were raised, not in a good way, but in a cute, pretty way.
A regular 22-year-old college student from South Korea, shaking a bell tirelessly for a community service entry on my resume. The same face, but the world around me had completely transformed.
“What are you looking at?”
“My face. It’s still pretty.”
“……”
“A pretty face is always good when the world is going well. I wonder what’s the use of being pretty in a world that’s fallen apart?”
Instead of answering, he glanced at me briefly and then refocused on driving.
Answers only when he feels like it, huh?
Regardless, as I continued to gaze into the side mirror…
‘Wait a minute.’
Could it be that the man driving next to me is…?
The thought naturally crossed my mind, but I stopped turning my head.
Because I saw something else in the side mirror.
‘What’s that?’
A person? Oh, it’s a person.
Reflected in the side mirror was a sidecar vigorously following the path we had taken.
“Hey.”
“I got it. You’re not ugly.”
“Not that.”
Is that blue sidecar the one I saw in the yard of the house we just left?
At first glance, it looked like a motorcycle, but it was a sidecar with two extra seats behind, occupied by two men.
“……”
I hadn’t seen the faces of the other two of the four men, but now a sense of unease washed over me, feeling like I had just seen those faces that I thought I’d never see.
Because clearly above their heads was written,
“Look in your side view mirror.”
Finally, the man checked the side mirror.
His expression crumpled, confirming my suspicion. The remaining two men were chasing us.
Weren’t they supposed to be dead?
“Didn’t you deal with them properly?”
“Tied them up after ambushing. Looks like they got loose.”
“This man, so vague in his intentions. How could you be so sloppy?”
“If I hadn’t been vague, I would’ve ignored you.”
“……”
He was right, and I had nothing to say in response.
“Look at the back seat.”
Following his instruction, I looked back to see two rifles lying on the seat.
“Do you know how to shoot?”
I quickly responded.
“No?”
I only have the ability to weaponize objects, not automatic aiming, so I can’t use firearms.
“……”
He gestured for me to come over.
“Take the wheel.”
Sitting in the passenger seat, checking the bullets loaded in the rifle, I asked him.
“Should I floor it?”
“Can you shake them off?”
“That depends on this guy.”
I pressed the accelerator firmly. The car began to speed up as if it had been waiting for this moment.
❅
When I first started the car, it gave off a promising engine sound, but actually holding the steering wheel revealed it was completely junk.
Moreover, speeding up on this snowy road was suicidal.
I glanced at the side mirror briefly. The pursuing vehicle was almost right on our tail.
The man beside me leaned out of the window, rifle and head extended.
– Tatatang!
With the sound of gunfire from behind, he quickly ducked his head back inside.
The first gunshot I actually heard was so loud it almost deafened me.
“He seems really angry.”
He couldn’t be hurt, could he?
While driving, I kept glancing sideways at him.
Judging by his mumbling to himself, he must be alright, right?
“When I give the signal, don’t let the car shake. Don’t swerve left or right.”
As if that’s easy to control.
“I’ll try my best.”
He aimed the gun out of the window again.
“Now.”
– Bang!
Suddenly, a bump in the road caused the car to jolt, making the aimed gun shoot towards the sky. It was an unexpected stone on the rough road.
“This isn’t easy.”
But missing the target was also true for the other side.
Hitting a moving target from a shaking car is a difficult task, especially with the distance not being close.
Knowing this, the pursuers accelerated to close the gap. The sidecar that had caught up with us was now running on our right.
Just as I was trying to get a clear look at the faces of the two men through the right window.
“Get down!”
– Tatatatang!
At the man’s shout, I slid down in my seat.
Bullets flew over my head, piercing the glass window instead.
Shattered glass fragments scattered everywhere.
“Mommy!!”
Instinctively calling out for my mom, I quickly readjusted my position and continued driving.
More bullets could come flying, but with my hips slid back, my view was too low to drive properly.
Feeling my heart pounding as I gripped the steering wheel.
A class selection window appeared on the car’s front windshield.
