Don't Pick Up the Male Lead in the Apocalypse - Chapter 13
The sudden appearance of the words “Class Selection.”
While others might be taken aback, I’m not. I remember the keyword “hunter” from the introduction to the work.
This was a novel where Awakened individuals known as Hunters exist.
I never expected it to happen to me, but it was a fortunate turn of events. In this f*cked up world, there’s nothing better for survival than being an Awakened.
The problem was,
“Of all times to Awaken as a Hunter…”
Awakening was something to welcome with open arms, but timing was the issue. Wouldn’t it have been nice if the class selection window appeared when I was relaxed and at ease?
“A Hunter? You Awakened?”
Hearing my muttering, the man, who had been keeping an eye on the other vehicle, turned his head to ask.
“You know about it?”
“Of course. I’m an Awakened too.”
Ah?
“Have you chosen your class?”
“Not yet.”
– Bang bang.
The bullets that flew this time lodged in the car’s bonnet. The man ducked and then quickly continued, as fast as a bullet.
“Then definitely don’t go for magic. Always choose the physical type. Not magic, but a weapon-specialized class.”
“Got it. Uh… so…”
I didn’t know why, but there had to be a reason the Hunter sunbae was insisting so strongly.
Weapon-specialized, weapon-specialized, weap…
“Excuse me!”
“What!”
There’s no such thing in the class selection.
No matter how much I examined the given options, there seemed to be no jobs that were physical types.
“There are no physical-type classes in the selection.”
“That can’t be right. So, what’s there?”
“Well, it’s…”
The choices were very straightforward. There was only one option.
“T-the Bell Fairy.”
“Bells?”
Our eyes met. My face, with a question mark floating above it, reflected in the man’s eyes.
And behind the man, the driver on the sidecar was pulling the pin out of a grenade with his mouth.
He was stretching his arm to throw the grenade into our car.
“Stop!!”
I slammed on the brakes. While it prevented the grenade from entering the car, the sudden stop on the snowy road caused the car to spin.
Holding the steering wheel with my left hand, my right hand stretched out towards the man, just in case he might be thrown out of the car, but it was unnecessary.
I quickly retracted my right hand back to the steering wheel.
– Boom!
An explosion sounded from the front of the car. The car spun twice before finally coming to a halt.
“Heugh… Hah.”
Exhaling heavily, I lifted my head to see my palms sweaty and reddened from gripping too tight.
The car stopping after just two spins wasn’t solely due to my effort; the man’s hand was also on the steering wheel.
He released the wheel and looked at me. Are you okay? His gaze questioned.
I nodded slightly.
– Vrooom.
Looking through the windshield, the sidecar that had turned away after throwing the grenade at us was coming back.
The man aimed his rifle at them. Bringing his eye close to the scope and aiming at the target.
– Tang!
A single gunshot made the straight-advancing sidecar lose direction and wobble.
The passenger, taking over for the deceased driver, struggled to control the handle.
Deciding it was futile to confront us alone, he turned around and fled.
The man, who had brought his face back to the scope, lifted his head. It seemed he judged the target too far away to hit accurately.
“So, what was that about the bell?”
“Ah! So, the only option was a Bell Fairy… huh?”
The system window that had displayed the class selection had changed to something else.
With a stunned expression, I read aloud the updated content.
“You have awakened as the hidden class ‘Bell Fairy.’ Please ring the bells of love in a world covered by harsh cold.”
“Love’s what? Ha, hahaha.”
The man openly burst into laughter, finding something hilariously funny. Holding his stomach and bending over from laughter, I looked at him with an annoyed expression and then pressed my forehead.
‘Ah! I must have accidentally selected it with my forehead when I ducked during the sudden stop.’
And so, just like that, I became the Race’s Fairy, thanks to my forehead’s choice.
The fleeing sidecar was already far away, out of sight.
“Ahaha, hahaha… Ahahaha.”
“Don’t you think you should stop laughing?”
“Oh, would it?”
“Yes.”
“I don’t want to? Hahahaha.”
“……”
He, who had been leaning forward with laughter, now threw his head back in amusement. To yell at him to stop laughing felt pointless, even though I found the class name ‘Bell Fairy’ somewhat amusing.
Damn, what kind of class is a Bell Fairy?
Putting aside what it does, what’s with the name Bell Fairy? Is it some kind of magical girl or what?
“Ahaha… Huh… Ah, a fairy? Hahahaha… So you’re a fairy, huh?”
Suppressing the urge to smack that snickering bastard’s face, I placed my hands back on the wheel.
Unfortunately, I still didn’t trust myself to survive alone without this man.
If I was still alone without this silver-haired bastard, I would have still been by those two men…….
Then, the man placed his hand over mine on the wheel.
“That’s enough. Let me drive.”
“No, I’ve got it.”
“With that hand?”
“What?”
He pointed at my hand with his chin. The hand gripping the wheel was trembling uncontrollably.
“You used a lot of force during the sudden stop earlier. The muscles must be shocked. I’m too precious to ride with someone driving with such a hand.”
How long have I been shaking like this?
Silently, I pulled up my sleeve to cover the trembling hand inside.
The man got out of the passenger side with a mocking expression.
