Droit du Seigneur: His Lordship's Right of the First Night - Chapter 67
Cherinia was walking home with a sulky face. She felt so furious that she wanted to roll around and scream in the deserted street.
“Louise, Cherinia will never forgive you. Cherinia won’t let this go!”
For the past few days, her mood had been quite elated, thanks to a story shared by a neighbor lady.
“Someone came looking for Cherinia?”
“Yes, when I told him that you were happily married, he looked heartbroken, like his world was falling apart. He was so handsome, like a figure from a painting. Judging by his attire, he must be a high-ranking noble. Who is he?”
“Hmm….”
“Shouldn’t you ask Louise just in case? He mentioned your name, but maybe he got it wrong and meant her instead.”
“Louise? Oh, no!”
Cherinia hurriedly waved her hand and added,
“Well… thinking back, he might have been one of those pesky noblemen who used to follow Cherinia around. There were so many that Cherinia can’t remember them all quickly.”
“Really? But we should still confirm it….”
“Oh! Cherinia’ll ask Louise herself. You must be busy, so please don’t worry about it!”
Of course, she would never ask her, but just in case, she couldn’t let that girl get any good news!
Ah, who could it be? Someone who couldn’t forget Cherinia, came all the way here, and looked so heartbroken….
For a few days, she stayed at home, beautifully dressed, waiting for him to come back, but when no one showed up, she grew bored. As she had somewhere to go, she decided to go out early in the morning.
“Maybe he fell for Cherinia at first sight and followed her here. For a noble, it would be easy to find out where Cherinia lives!”
Cherinia sat in an upscale dessert café in town, lost in her imagination. She tapped her feet and took a bite of the sweet cake beautifully presented on a plate.
“What if the nobleman who fell for Cherinia asks her to marry him? Hehe.”
What would she do? She’d have to break up with Helio immediately.
Cherinia was increasingly dissatisfied with her marriage to Helio. She had chosen him because he had a decent face and was good at spending money, even in this wretched village, but lately, he wasn’t as generous with gifts as before….
She was losing affection for him by the day. If a high-status, handsome nobleman started courting her, she was ready to leave Helio without hesitation.
Tired of Helio’s shabby house, she felt delighted sitting at a luxurious marble table, being served by a handsome waiter, feeling like a noble lady. The men around seemed to be all eyes on her, and she raised her teacup haughtily.
It was such a good idea to keep this!
She discreetly opened her small handbag beside her and quickly checked its contents. The radiant pearls and sparkling jewels were dazzling. She had torn them from the hem of the dress back when she was secretly searching Louise’s room. Recently, Cherinia had been selling them one by one, using the money to adorn herself and indulge in delicious treats.
She could have shown them to Helio as proof, but he would surely squander them all at the gambling den or pub.
Although it was troublesome to travel to different towns to avoid suspicion by selling high-quality jewels at the same jeweler all at once or multiple times, it was worth it.
“Just in case, Cherinia wrote Louise’s name when Cherinia sold the jewels. Even if they were stolen, Cherinia would be safe, right?”
How did that girl get such fine clothes? Did she charm some foolish guards at the castle?
Cherinia decided to visit the lord’s castle to investigate and enjoy the bustling town as she sipped her fragrant tea.

But shortly after leaving the dessert café and reaching her destination, Cherinia’s high spirits were shattered.
“Are you sure? If you’re lying, I won’t let you off!”
“I swear! I heard it from a colleague who works in the West Wing. They wash all the linens and sheets from that room separately. It seems the lord sleeps there. And there are always signs on the bedding that indicate, you know… the kind that shows a man and woman spent the night together.”
Cherinia’s cousin Becky, who worked as a maid at the lord’s castle, was timidly sharing the information she had gathered. Becky, the same age as Cherinia, had always admired her popular and beautiful cousin since childhood.
Cherinia had always treated Becky, who was awkward and clumsy, like her personal maid. Today, after bribing a guard to get inside, she was pressuring Becky to report what she had found out.
The revelations were so shocking that Cherinia’s hands trembled.
“Some people saw a woman with amber hair and jade-green eyes strolling in the rose garden. They thought she was a fairy because she was so beautiful. People say she’s the perfect mistress for our stoic lord….”
“No way! How could that girl…!”
