For My Birthday, I Was Gifted Five Husbands - Chapter 50
It was as if he was hiding something.
“Why, Eugenie Norton?”
Ignoring her displeasure, Magnus elegantly picked up his fork and knife again, only smiling.
“Did you want to secretly watch your husband undress?”
“Watch? No way.”
Eugenie crinkled her nose at his shallow mockery. She refused to be provoked so easily.
“Do you have something to hide from me?”
“Hmm.”
“It might sound silly coming from me, but do you have any injuries on your body?”
She recalled the scars on Alfred’s body, and the changes Percival experienced due to the blood of beasts. Given those two examples, it wouldn’t be so surprising if something unusual marked Magnus’s body.
‘For instance, scales…?’
Yet when their bodies touched, she hadn’t felt anything scale-like.
While Eugenie pondered this, Magnus merely chuckled lightly. Unlike usual, a few strands of hair that hadn’t been swept back swayed gently across his forehead in the early morning light.
“Just accept that some people prefer to wear clothes during these activities, Norton.”
“If I respect your preference, what about mine? It’s unfair that I’m the only one naked.”
“You look good naked too.”
Magnus teased her as if she was being foolish. Even though it sounded like s****l harassment, his calm attitude made it somehow come off as a compliment, causing Eugenie to fumble her words.
“Besides, your fashion sense isn’t exactly remarkable; wearing clothes is more detrimental to you.”
“…”
“Even if we provide you with plenty of opportunities, your current outfit isn’t exactly appealing.”
“…”
“While our divine Arthurian has bestowed you with the intellect to attend graduate school…ha… I can’t help but wonder why you weren’t granted you any aesthetic sense.”
“…”
“Sometimes, it seems like the world has a sense of fairness.”
As Eugenie stared at Magnus, who seemed genuinely contemplative, she glanced down at her outfit. She had carefully selected her favorite from the wardrobe prepared in the mansion.
A light green cardigan with white daisies embroidered, paired with a white striped poplin dress and black boots—how cute and versatile it was!
But Magnus’s sympathetic gaze only fueled her frustration.
With a dissatisfied snort, Eugenie stood up.
“I’ll stay in the study. Don’t disturb me this time.”
“As you wish, Madam.”
Seemingly planning to enjoy a serene morning tea on his own, Magnus waved his hand neatly.
Eugenie turned her back on her irritating third husband and headed back to the study, where she had read about the magic stone the previous day.
Despite knowing the content, she felt the need to confirm the book once more.
“Ah, of course. There it is, near the Napier and Troys territories.”
Eugenie compared the map included in the book with the one marking the nobles’ territories, clicking her tongue.
Even though it was summer, when most nobles resided in the capital, old noble families typically owned ‘manors’ that had been passed down for generations.
‘The Norton family isn’t that prestigious, though.’
Regardless, the ‘mines where the magic ores had dried up’ were located near both the Napier and Troys territories. Since these areas had already been closed long before the Schroder family seized the magic ore mines, Eugenie had initially skimmed past this information when she first read the book.
“Hmm…”
Eugenie let out a soft sigh while alternating her gaze between the two maps.
Percival, who was said to have the blood of the vanished beast.
Magnus, who subtly sidestepped her questions while insisting on having a taste for clothing.
‘What are you trying to hide from me, Napier?’
During her time at the academy, she had seen Carter and others, as well as the other male students, enjoying their physical education classes completely undressed. Plus, didn’t he carry a wand with him?
‘If his body is different from what I knew, there’s only so much I can speculate.’
But if it were any ordinary ailment, surely the Napier family’s wealth could easily cure it. Yet if that wasn’t possible…
‘Is the reason he cooperated with this strange contractual marriage set by my mother due to his health?’
Indeed, if that were not the case, there was no way Magnus Napier would have married Eugenie and had s-x with her.
Isn’t that right?
“What are you thinking so deeply about?”
“Why in the world would that jerk be getting involved with me… Carter?!”
At the sudden question, Eugenie, who had been responding without thinking, dropped the book on the floor.
The figure vaulting over the garden-connected terrace was none other than her childhood friend turned husband.
“When did you get here? Why did you come?”
“Why did I come? I came because I wanted to see you.”
Oh my. Her childhood friend, who had known every bit of her dark history since she was five, suddenly acted sweet after earning the title of ‘husband.’
