For Sale: Male Lead, Obsession Included - Chapter 47
When Estira pointed at Feyden, Truu blinked in shock, clearly flustered.
“Uh… well…”
He still hadn’t decided whether or not to reveal his brother to Estira.
‘What should I do?’
Truu glanced up at Feyden with his wide eyes. But even under his younger brother’s anxious gaze, Feyden failed to notice, only frowning deeply.
“What is it? What kind of errand did this woman make you run this time?”
“B-Brother…”
As Truu tugged on Feyden’s sleeve, distressed by his hostile attitude, Estira quickly pieced the situation together.
“Oh, I apologize. You must be his guardian. I had asked him to do one more errand for me—to help me find someone.”
“Someone?”
Truu gulped and tightened his grip on Feyden’s sleeve, the anxiety overwhelming him.
It was already spilt milk, and there was no turning back. Estira had already realized that the person she was looking for was his older brother.
What if she was searching for him for a bad reason? Did I just sell out my own brother…?
“Yes. I was looking for a mercenary. Someone exactly like you.”
“Why would you ask my little brother to find a mercenary? Mercenary guilds are all over the place.”
Feyden, now clearly showing his hostility, shielded the terrified Truu behind his legs, openly expressing his suspicion.
Estira smiled softly at Truu’s anxious expression, as if she understood what the boy was thinking.
“There’s no hidden agenda. I’m in a hurry and didn’t have time to visit each mercenary guild, so I asked Truu to find you.”
“Me? Who do you think you are?”
“My name is Estira.”
“Do I look like I care?”
Feyden’s hostility intensified, the atmosphere around him growing more threatening.
He subtly pulled a dagger from his belt, showing its sharp edge as a clear warning: if she kept toying with him, he wouldn’t hesitate to use it.
Estira, unflinching, met his gaze directly, her golden eyes gleaming as she spoke.
“I’m looking for a strong mercenary to accompany me on my journey. You’re Feyden, right?”
***
“Bastards.”
Feyden cursed continuously as he clutched the 1 silver coin he’d been paid for his work.
It had been a job dangerous enough to risk his life. Even someone like Feyden, who ranked among the top five in combat skills within the mercenary group, had come away with several minor injuries.
And yet, only 1 silver. The other mercenaries, who had merely ridden his coattails, had received at least 3 silver each.
The mercenary leader constantly shorted Feyden’s pay under the pretense of a “service fee,” saying Feyden should be grateful they hired an underage kid illegally.
It was a disgusting world.
For someone like Feyden, who only knew how to fight and wield a sword, this mercenary group was a stroke of luck. No other place would hire a homeless kid from the slums, especially one underage.
So, no matter how dirty the work, quitting wasn’t an option. He had a younger brother waiting at home for him.
Feyden didn’t unclench his fist, the coin biting into his palm, leaving a hot, painful mark.
Even with just 1 silver, they wouldn’t go hungry for a week, and he could buy his little brother a snack or two. He would be happy, surely.
Suppressing the rage that had been boiling up, Feyden stormed out of the mercenary guild building.
He needed to see his brother’s stupidly cheerful face, the one that always smiled so brightly whenever Feyden showed up. That would ease this foul mood.
Clutching his growling stomach, Feyden ran home, practicing his smile along the way. His little brother was eerily good at sensing when something was off.
“Truu, go home.”
“Huh?”
“Hurry.”
Noticing the tension in Feyden’s face, Truu wisely obeyed without a word, turning and walking away.
Though his face betrayed his unease with every step, neither Estira nor Feyden said a word until Truu had disappeared around the corner.
“Listen here, you. I’ll say it once. Leave. If you ever come near my little brother again, I’ll kill you.”
Now that Truu was gone, Feyden unleashed his unbridled killing intent on Estira, far more intimidating than before.
If Estira hadn’t spent her childhood surrounded by the deadly presence of the Glioced bastards, even standing on two legs in the face of this pressure would’ve been impossible.
Feyden thought this would surely scare off this ignorant little girl, making her cry and flee.
But that was a mistake.
Estira didn’t flinch under Feyden’s threat. Instead, she responded with the same intensity, revealing her own hidden aura as she spoke clearly.
“I’m not interested in your little brother. It’s you that I want.”
The energy radiating from Estira was not something one would expect from a girl who looked younger than Feyden. Realizing this, Feyden hardened his expression, realizing she wasn’t an ordinary girl.
All the more reason not to let his guard down.
