Guidelines for the Perfect Goodbye - Chapter 117
Cecilia looked up at Caroline, who had suddenly wedged herself next to her without any warning.
Oh, how odd. Until just a moment ago, she had absolutely no desire to dance with Logan, but…
Suddenly, she felt an intense urge to dance. Even if she moved stiffly like a wooden puppet, she had to dance. If she could step on Logan’s feet a few times while doing so, even better.
Cecilia was about to naturally say, ‘I think I’d like to get to know dancing a bit today,’ when Logan turned his gaze to Caroline.
Caroline’s face turned red as her jewel-like violet eyes met his. That was not an act— it was a genuine reaction emanating from sincerity.
‘He’s handsome…’
Cecilia humbly acknowledged her ex-husband’s looks while internally scoffing.
‘This is why they say we women can’t choose men properly.’
She wanted to blurt out something disdainful about living off someone’s looks. What’s the use of advising Caroline? It’s enough that she realizes it herself.
“Miss Caroline.”
Logan called her. Caroline looked at him with an even more thrilled expression.
“Yes, what is it?”
Seeing her eyes filled with anticipation, Cecilia briefly considered intervening.
No, let it be.
She might not know Logan’s ideal type, but she knew very well that Caroline was not it.
“I was taught that when someone other than the involved parties joins a conversation, they should do so with appropriate manners. Have I perhaps learned incorrectly?”
As expected, he didn’t go along with Caroline’s whims. His criticism was polite but sharp enough for an onlooker to grasp the implications.
Caroline’s face flushed a different kind of red as she bit her lip.
“I was just worried about my sister…”
“I appreciate your thoughtful heart. However, Miss Cecilia also has a mouth, so please allow me the opportunity to hear the answer from my fiancée.”
“…Right.”
Caroline slumped down as if her legs had given out, thankful there was a chair nearby for waiting.
Leaving a stunned Caroline behind, Logan turned back to Cecilia and offered again,
“Shall we dance together?”
“Are you sure? I’m not talented in moving my body…”
“Coincidentally, I too lack talent in music.”
“It’s more serious than you might imagine.”
“I’ll return that answer to you.”
Despite both declaring their poor dancing skills, one proposed and the other half-accepted.
Up close, the scene might seem ridiculous, but someone watching from a distance might think they made a well-matched pair.
Logan grinned.
“I’m glad to be a man who matches your level. I was worried about being stood up for being too terrible at dancing.”
Cecilia shrugged and took his hand.
Soon she realized,
Logan Harper was as much of a liar as she was.
He could dance well. In fact, he danced so well that the term ‘well’ seemed an understatement. He led her so smoothly that her wooden movements were completely controlled by his hands.
“The words you just said were a lie. You follow along so well.”
Logan spun her hand as he spoke, and Cecilia followed his lead, barely managing to respond.
“Do I look like I’m dancing well? I don’t even know how I’m moving myself right now.”
He wrapped his arms around her waist, pulled her close, and smiled.
“That’s exactly what talent is.”
* * *
Caroline gritted her teeth as she watched them. A burning sense of defeat and shame consumed her.
She wanted to run away.
If this hadn’t been her home, she would have fled willingly.
As she tried to calm her swelling emotions, she went into the living room, where Louise sat down beside her.
“Miss, is something the matter?”
“Nothing…”
Caroline answered sulkily. However, as Louise kept encouraging her to talk, Caroline eventually burst into tears.
“Cecilia… she ostracized me… She embarrassed me in front of her fiancé and left me alone. How could she do this?”
Although Caroline was the one who had intervened and Logan was the one who had responded, somehow Cecilia ended up being blamed as the culprit of it all.
Louise patted Caroline’s shoulder sympathetically after hearing the story.
“Don’t be heartbroken, Miss.”
“But… I keep getting angry, Madame.”
