Guidelines for the Perfect Goodbye - Chapter 190
Logan’s face twisted awkwardly. This, too, was something new.
Perhaps today, I’ll get to see all the emotions I never witnessed in my former husband.
As Cecilia was inwardly mocking herself, Logan suddenly spoke.
“You don’t know me.”
“That’s true. How many times have we even met?”
In reality, we lived in the same house, in separate rooms. But the fact that I didn’t know you remains unchanged.
Cecilia’s tone was cynical, while Logan, unusually, became emotional.
“Don’t you feel there’s a contradiction in what you’re saying? You claim to know me while knowing nothing about me. Even though I’ve repeatedly told you that I don’t have a lover.”
“That’s just one of the few pieces of information I have about you.”
“It’s sad that one of the few things you know about me is no more than gossip, enough to bring tears to my eyes.”
For someone who seems like they wouldn’t bleed even if pricked, he sure knows how to talk.
“Sienna Port.”
“…?”
“That’s the name of your lover, isn’t it, Lieutenant?”
Logan’s eyes narrowed.
“How do you know about her…?”
Cecilia tilted her chin upward, as if triumphant in proving her fiancé’s affair.
“Surprised that I know?”
“Sienna is… no, more importantly.”
Logan shook his head.
“Sienna is not my lover.”
“I heard you’ve been together since your early days in the navy.”
“Yes, we’ve known each other for a long time, but… lover? That’s absurd. If anything, I’d call her a comrade.”
“A woman living with you in the port city is your comrade? Since when did the navy start enlisting women? Had I known, I would’ve applied myself!”
Logan looked at her with astonishment, biting his lower lip as if holding back laughter.
‘You find this funny?’
For Cecilia, this was a serious and important conversation. The sense of relief his touch had given her earlier now felt like it was turning her stomach.
Yet Logan, still suppressing his laughter, asked,
“Who told you such things?”
“What would you do if I told you?”
“Whoever it was, they’re a fraud, and I can’t let them get away with it.”
“Then I definitely can’t tell you. My source is highly trustworthy.”
“Not to me.”
“And I don’t trust you.”
“Proving that I’m single seems more difficult than proving love.”
“If you can’t prove it, then give up.”
“I have no reason to.”
“Maybe I should give you one.”
As their emotions heightened, their words became shorter, more clipped.
But while Logan remained calm, Cecilia was the only one getting worked up. She was more accustomed to the opposite dynamic.
“…Hah.”
Cecilia tried to calm her breathing, cooling her flushed cheeks. Logan fanned her face with his hand, but when she swatted it away, he raised both hands playfully, smiling.
The sight of him like this infuriated her again, but she was too emotionally drained to be swept up in the moment for a second time. Leaning back on the bench, she closed her eyes in exhaustion.
“Cecilia, there’s something you should know. The woman you mentioned, Sienna—she was involved in how I became acquainted with Viscount Odridge.”
“…”
“The girl you claim was my lover, Sienna Port.”
“…”
“Once, the ship the viscount was traveling on was attacked by monsters. Sienna was aboard the lower deck of that ship.”
Cecilia opened her eyes.
“Was the viscount on some life-threatening adventure in the western seas?”
“Of course not. He was merely on a journey to the north.”
She vaguely recalled that in the past, even civilians could travel by sea in certain areas near the continent, as monsters rarely appeared outside the Gatpolla region at that time.
“Sienna helped gather people together and keep them safe. After that, whenever we visited the port city, I bought her drinks and meals as a sign of respect.”
“…”
“I was always accompanied by my fellow sailors.”
“So you two…”
“I’ve never been alone with her.”
Logan cleared his throat as he added,
“We have no relationship at all.”
