Hansel’s Enchanted Fairytale: Fill Me Up With Magic! - Chapter 78
“Then, I’ll go with you other times. But at least let me be alone when I go to the bathroom…! Mmh—”
Something was suddenly pushed into her mouth.
A sweet flavor spread on her tongue.
Dante had stuffed a piece of chocolate into Hansel’s mouth.
…What is this? It’s so delicious.
Bitterness and sweetness blended together, leaving a perfect balance of flavor and richness in her mouth. The chocolate had a creamy filling, soft yet offering a slight bite that was absolutely exquisite.
Hansel chewed on the chocolate for a while. The piece was small and melted quickly, leaving her wishing for more. She smacked her lips slightly.
“What is this? When did you make it?”
“A few days ago.”
“Oh, that one? The one you said needed to age? Is it finally ready now?”
“Yeah.”
“This chocolate has a nutty flavor. There’s a bit of bitterness, but it’s really nice. How did you make it?”
“I used wine cream for the filling.”
Hansel peeked curiously at the box of chocolates in Dante’s hand. Seeing her interest, Dante picked up another piece and patted his lap.
“Come here.”
Drawn in as if under a spell, Hansel approached him and perched on his lap. Dante used magic to summon a biscuit and a jar of dark chocolate spread. Carefully spreading the chocolate over the biscuit, he held it out to her.
After being spoon-fed every meal for days, Hansel had grown used to it. She opened her mouth instinctively, like a baby bird.
Crunch. She bit into the biscuit, and her eyes lit up in delight.
“This is so good…!”
Dante smiled, his eyes soft with satisfaction.
Sitting on his lap, Hansel devoured another couple of pieces, her legs swinging happily.
Why do my legs always swing when I eat something delicious?
Before meeting Dante, she’d had a picky appetite. Whether it was his exceptional cooking skills or her changed tastes since leaving home, she couldn’t quite tell.
As she reached for another bite, she suddenly froze.
Wait a minute! This wasn’t what I meant to do!
“Hold on!”
Hansel pushed Dante’s hand away and narrowed her eyes at him.
“You’re doing this on purpose, aren’t you? Just to stop me from talking!”
“Yeah.”
“……”
“You’re quiet when I’m feeding you.”
Hansel folded her arms, trying to pull herself together. His sudden honesty made him even more unpredictable.
She glared at him, putting on a more determined expression.
“Anyway, I don’t care about anything else, but you can’t keep following me to the bathroom. So just leave me alone at least then, okay?”
“No.”
“Okay, going forw—wait, what?”
Hansel blinked, stunned.
It was the first time she had ever heard Dante say no to her.
She sat there with her mouth agape, trying to process it, while Dante, as calm as ever, lifted her into his arms and gently placed her back on the bed.
When he climbed into bed beside her, she bolted upright.
“Wait, is that it? I’m talking about the bathroom!”
Dante gazed at her silently.
“I-It’s not like I’m making an unreasonable demand. I get that you don’t trust me, but…”
“I trust you.”
“…Huh?”
“I just don’t like it.”
Isn’t that the same thing?
“Then how long is this going to last? I mean, do I have to keep depending on you for everything, without even a moment to myself? I just want to go to the bathroom without you for once…”
“Give up.”
“……”
“You’re mine, remember?”
How does that even connect?
Hansel couldn’t bring herself to ask.
Dante had made it clear he had no intention of continuing the conversation. He turned his head away from her entirely, leaning against the bed’s headboard.
At times like this, no amount of pleading or reasoning would sway him. He became as immovable as a stone statue.
Hansel sighed as a headache began to form, massaging her temples. She pulled the blanket up to her chin and turned her back to him.
How long is this going to last? Will I always have to live like this, unable to do anything on my own?
I know I made a mistake, but still…
People’s feelings can be inconsistent, and sometimes it takes time for wounds to heal. But isn’t communication supposed to help things improve? How can we resolve anything if he just shuts everything down?
Can I even fall asleep like this? I need to settle this…
Snore.
Hansel’s soft, kitten-like snores filled the room.
In truth, she might have been doing better than she thought.
“……”
Dante quietly gazed at her round, sleeping face.
“You sleep so much.”
He whispered the thought and lay down beside her.
