Holy Night: My Husband is Definitely a Paladin - Chapter 83
“It can’t be appraised?”
“Yes. To be more precise, it was appraised, but…”
The staff member, looking troubled, handed Irene a piece of paper with the results written by the Hand of Appraisal.
As Irene took it, her expression twisted in confusion.
“What language is this?”
“From what we’ve confirmed, it’s a language that has never existed on the continent throughout history. And just to let you know, we tried again, but the Hand of Appraisal wrote the exact same thing, not a single letter different.”
“Haah…”
Irene ran her hand down her face in frustration at the response.
An unknown language. That meant it was impossible to decipher.
“It would have been helpful if there were at least numbers.”
The language written by the Hand of Appraisal didn’t even include numbers, as if the language didn’t use them. Or perhaps no numbers were necessary for the description.
Either way, since the appraisal couldn’t be interpreted, there was no way to know if the item was an artifact or just a useless object.
Receiving the dagger back, Irene asked with a dark expression,
“In cases like this, do they at least give a discount on the appraisal fee?”
* * *
“Yeah, of course not. The appraisers are humans from the fortress, after all. There’s no way they’d give a discount.”
In fact, they were even considering charging extra for having used the Hand of Appraisal multiple times.
With that, Irene had quickly left without asking for any further discounts.
Back in her room, she sat at her table, examining the dagger.
‘I don’t remember any artifact like this.’
Irene tried to recall the records of artifacts she had seen in her previous life.
She remembered most of the rare and even trivial artifacts, but this dagger didn’t exist in her memories.
‘Then again, the Infinite Healing Ring didn’t exist in the past either.’
Could the appearance of the Infinite Healing Ring have somehow triggered the appearance of this dagger as well?
Although both artifacts had fallen into her hands, and that was fortunate, she couldn’t help but worry that these two might drastically change the future.
Lost in thought for a while, Irene sighed and inspected the dagger closely.
It wasn’t just a dagger—it came with a sheath as well.
The surface of the metal, which looked somewhat like iron, had once been decorated, but the countless scratches made it impossible to make out the original design.
“The blade’s in terrible condition, too.”
At least it wasn’t rusted, but the edges were so chipped that it didn’t look capable of cutting anything properly.
“What on earth is this…”
Irene slumped onto the table, opening her palm.
The ring on her finger, which had squeezed so tightly earlier, now sat calmly, as if nothing had happened.
“Hey, you’re alive, aren’t you? You can see what’s going on around you, right?”
She spoke to the ring, but naturally, it didn’t respond.
After trying a few more times with no success, Irene shifted her attention back to the dagger.
‘Now what?’
She had assumed, just like with the Infinite Healing Ring, that this would turn out to be something amazing.
That’s why she had rushed to get it appraised.
‘It was a mistake to have it appraised, just because they said I could pay the fee later.’
The staff member had been thrilled when she brought in an unappraised item, thinking it was something she’d acquired from a dungeon with Michael.
But after they handed her the incomprehensible appraisal report, and she told them the item was from an auction chest, their faces had quickly soured.
“I’ve never seen anything good come out of those things. It’s all just a marketing ploy.”
One of the appraisers had scoffed, speaking of the auction house staff as if they were street merchants.
“Anyway, I’m in the red…”
Even if she visited the auction house tomorrow to settle the sale of the Stone of Silence, it wouldn’t be enough to pay back the 1,550 gold she had borrowed from Reyna and the 10,000 gold appraisal fee.
‘And I’ve already used up my one chance to enter a dungeon this week when I found the Stone of Silence, so I won’t be getting any more money for a while.’
The only consolation was that the discovery of the Stone of Silence confirmed that the dungeon information she remembered wasn’t all wrong.
Irene thought of other artifacts she remembered. Fortunately, there was a dungeon with a valuable artifact due to appear in a few weeks.
‘If I can get that, I should be able to make around 30,000 gold.’
Then she suddenly recalled how Michael had questioned her luck in finding artifacts.
While he had said she had extraordinary luck, it was clear that he was becoming suspicious of her.
If she found another artifact…
This time, he wouldn’t just be suspicious—he’d be certain.
