How to Escape from the Yandere’s Crazy Obsession - Chapter 46
II.
A few days later, Leticia received an urgent message from home, instructing her to return immediately due to a critical situation. With winter break just around the corner, she had no choice but to leave school early and return home before finishing her classes.
The sight that greeted her upon returning home was devastating.
The house was in shambles, as if it had been ransacked, and her parents, with vacant expressions, were waiting for her.
The once elegant appearance of her parents, before she had gone to the academy, had drastically changed. They had lost a lot of weight, and it looked as though they had aged several years in just a short time.
“What on earth happened here?”
“Leticia…”
As soon as her mother, Sharon, saw her, she began to cry. They had tried to acquire another business by borrowing money from various places, but it turned out to be a phantom company. All of their assets had vanished into thin air, and the debts were so overwhelming that it was impossible to recover.
Seeing the chaos in the house, Leticia was left speechless.
“What are we going to do now…?”
Everything had collapsed, disappearing like foam on the water. By tomorrow, their house would be seized in an auction, and they wouldn’t have a place to live. They had no hidden funds, not even a penny. All that was left were their bodies, and the situation was so dire that selling themselves seemed like the only option.
“Dad, how did this happen?”
“Leticia… I’m so sorry.”
His apology said it all. Her parents’ once-successful business had crumbled like a sandcastle, washed away in an instant.
“So, our family… we’re ruined?”
Her parents turned their heads away, unable to say anything to Leticia.
It was true—they were ruined. Now what would she do? She couldn’t return to the academy, and she could no longer wear her beautiful clothes. But she couldn’t voice those concerns in front of her parents, whose grief was far greater than her own. She wasn’t a child anymore.
“We have to leave this house by tomorrow…”
“What…?”
It was hard to believe. Even the house was gone, too? This was the house she had lived in her entire life, filled with countless memories.
And now she had to leave it so abruptly, as if being kicked out. Even if she were leaving under better circumstances, it would still have been bittersweet.
Transparent tears began to stream down Leticia’s face. But crying wouldn’t solve anything—it would only make things harder.
In the end, Leticia’s family was forced out onto the streets, and as time passed, the harsh winter set in. They couldn’t stay in their old village, constantly hounded by debt collectors, so they had no choice but to move deep into the mountains, where no one lived.
They found an abandoned cabin and made temporary repairs to live there.
But even with the repairs, whenever it rained or snowed, water leaked through the roof. They didn’t even have proper blankets or pillows to sleep with.
They collected sticks to make fires, relying on each other’s body heat to fall asleep. Leticia quickly learned how difficult it was to start a fire with damp wood.
Everything was new to her.
After about two weeks of living like this, the entire family was on the verge of losing their sanity. Cold, uncomfortable nights were something they could endure, but the gnawing hunger in their bellies was unbearable.
Finding food in the snowy mountains during winter was nearly impossible. On a lucky day, they might find frozen fruit that hadn’t fallen in the fall. Otherwise, they survived by digging up tree roots or melting snow to drink.
Leticia’s once-soft hands were now red and rough, as if frostbitten from digging through the snow for firewood every day. Her once-radiant cheeks had become rough with dry, dead skin from the lack of proper washing, and her once-lustrous blonde hair was now tangled and matted due to the lack of proper nutrition.
Her bright beauty was slowly fading away.
No matter how hard they struggled, there seemed to be no way out of this dreadful life.
Not long after, Leticia’s father, who had been deeply shaken by the failure of his business, fell ill and became bedridden. The only ones left to move were Leticia and her mother, Sharon.
After several more days, Sharon gripped Leticia’s hand tightly.
“Leticia… We need to go out and find work.”
But what kind of work could two women find? At first, they tried to do sewing jobs. However, Sharon, who had only ever managed a business, and Leticia, who had no experience with sewing, couldn’t do it well. And soon, no one was willing to give them any more work.
To make matters worse, the debt collectors, having somehow found out their location, began to show up at their dilapidated cabin.
