How to Escape from the Yandere’s Crazy Obsession - Chapter 89
Richelle was the first to break the silence.
“Pfft, I’m just joking. You’ve been so down lately. I was trying to get you to laugh.”
It was a joke that wasn’t funny at all. Leticia’s stiff expression didn’t soften, and an awkwardness that had never existed between her and Richelle filled the air.
To feel awkward with her closest friend, Richelle…
“I need to go to the bathroom!”
Bang.
As soon as Richelle entered the bathroom, Leticia got up from the bed and approached the desk. She began searching for the envelope Richelle had slipped between the books earlier.
“It should be around here somewhere… Ah, found it!”
Leticia had hoped it would just be an envelope of the same color. But as she held it, her hand trembled with a sense of betrayal. The roughly cut edges and the adhesive sticking out were identical to the envelope she had seen a few days ago.
“Why does Richelle have this? Could it be…? No, it can’t be. Richelle would never…”
Richelle, who had been her friend since childhood, was like family to Leticia.
The idea that Richelle could be the one behind the threats? Impossible. She must have just picked it up somewhere.
Swish.
“Leticia, what are you doing?”
Richelle’s voice was unusually low. Though Leticia had heard her voice countless times, today it sent a shiver down her spine.
Leticia held the envelope out to Richelle.
“R-Richelle? What is this?”
“Oh, that? I found it at school this morning. Doesn’t it look like the envelope you found outside your door? I thought it might be related, so I picked it up. Why?”
Richelle shrugged as if it was nothing.
Sigh.
Leticia let out a long sigh of relief, collapsing onto the desk in exhaustion. Of course. What had she been thinking, doubting Richelle like that? She must have been going crazy.
“Did you see who dropped it?”
“Nope, didn’t see anything.”
“Ugh, I’ve been so on edge because of these letters lately. I think it’s making me paranoid.”
As Leticia rubbed her eyes, trying to smooth out the frown lines from her face, Richelle observed her expression closely, stepping nearer.
“Why? Did it say something strange?”
“It feels like someone’s trying to threaten me… but I can’t figure out who would do this.”
“Someone who doesn’t like you, probably. Not everyone can like you, you know?”
“Yeah, I guess, but…”
Today, Richelle’s voice felt unusually cold, almost unfamiliar. It didn’t sound like the Richelle she knew.
“What kind of threats are they making?”
“Uh… just that they can’t stand the sight of me…”
“Ha… is that all?”
Wait, did she just laugh?
Leticia hadn’t been watching Richelle’s face, as she was still staring at the black envelope. When she looked up, Richelle’s face showed concern, looking at her.
Leticia’s mind was spinning in confusion.
Maybe all this stress was making her hear things. She probably just needed some rest.
“Hey, Richelle. Let’s do the assignment tomorrow. I’m really exhausted and need to rest.”
“Sure, we can do it tomorrow. You do look pretty tired.”
Leticia rushed back to her room, but the uneasy feeling didn’t go away.
***
Unable to sleep, her eyes had become red like a rabbit’s from staying up all night. It was Richelle’s strange behavior that kept Leticia on edge, though she tried to dismiss her suspicions.
Throughout the night, she nervously chewed the inside of her cheek until her mouth became sore.
“Ow, that hurts…”
She was still holding her aching cheek when she opened the dormitory door in the morning.
Thunk.
A black envelope fell at her feet. Had someone come by early in the morning to leave it at her door? After checking that no one was around, Leticia cautiously opened the envelope.
The letter inside was filled with unsettling words, written in thick red ink. As Leticia read it, her face went pale, drained of color.
[Just fxxx off you filthy cxmrag bxtch. Just fxxx off you filthy cxmrag bxtch. Just fxxx off you filthy cxmrag bxtch. Just fxxx off you filthy cxmrag bxtch. Just fxxx off you filthy cxmrag bxtch. Just fxxx off you filthy cxmrag bxtch. Just fxxx off you filthy cxmrag bxtch. Just fxxx off you filthy cxmrag bxtch. Just fxxx off you filthy cxmrag bxtch. Just fxxx off you filthy cxmrag bxtch.]
“What… What the hell is this? This is disgusting…”
Just reading the letter made her feel a cold shiver down her spine. She was both horrified and enraged. Crumpling the letter in her hands, Leticia shouted in frustration.
Her voice echoed through the empty hallway.
“Who are you?! If you’ve got something to say, just come out and say it! Stop hiding like a coward!”
She wished she could at least see the face of the person behind all this, but there was no one around. The thought of who could be doing this from behind the scenes, tormenting her like this, was driving her mad.
If they had something to say, why couldn’t they just come forward? Why were they torturing her like this, from the shadows? Now, she was just angry.
“Come out!”
Leticia’s shout echoed through the hallway, stopping a few students in their tracks as they were heading to school. They curiously peered at her, but Leticia didn’t notice them. To her, it felt like one of those clueless people might be the one threatening her.
The stares she felt were like sharp needles, pricking her from every direction. The space around her felt suffocating, as if someone was pressing down on her chest. She needed to escape, to find some open air, where she could finally breathe.
