How to Live as the Terminally Ill Younger Sister of the Villain - Chapter 4
Angelina had exchanged a few checks for gold coins, thinking that ‘cash’ was indeed more satisfying to spend.
“……!”
“Is that enough?”
The thugs were momentarily breathless at the amount of money they couldn’t casually touch. But their leader, overcome with greed, spoke up.
“Th-This is far from enough.”
At his trembling voice, Angelina took another handful of money from the magic pouch and threw it.
Again, it was an amount of gold coins worth several dozen shillings.
“How about this?”
Seeing the thugs swallowing dry saliva without answering, Angelina let out a ‘hmm’ sound.
“Still not enough?”
Then she turned the magic pouch completely upside down.
Clink, clink, clink!
Dozens, hundreds of gold coins poured out, forming a mountain on the ground.
As the gold coins piled up, the thugs’ mouths gradually opened, and eventually, their faces turned pale.
Soon the magic pouch was empty, and Angelina sighed softly as she looked at the mountain of gold coins that had reached her waist.
“Still no word. I guess it’s still not enough?”
She spoke nonchalantly and extended her hand to Haley again.
Haley handed her another magic pouch. When she opened it, gold coins glittered inside.
At this sight, the thugs hurriedly shouted.
“S-Stop!”
They had intended to exaggerate and extort a decent amount.
But they had never seen this much money in their lives, and the woman who casually poured out so many gold coins was beyond surprising—she was terrifying.
They instinctively realized they had messed with someone they absolutely shouldn’t have.
“Please stop, I beg you!”
As the leader cried out in a voice filled with fear, Angelina let out an “Oh” in exclamation.
“So this is the amount.”
As if she didn’t understand what they were afraid of, she spoke in a happy voice, as if she had finally found the right amount.
“That’s quite a lot to steal from just one pickpocketing.”
Though she wore a faint smile, her words suggested she knew well that they had lied.
The leader gulped dryly at the sight of her standing with her arms crossed, looking at them as if asking what was going on.
“Wh-Who…”
Who have we messed with?
Just as he was about to ask who on earth she was to be capable of such a terrifying act, one of his companions pointed at Laura’s apron.
“Hey, hey. Th-That emblem there…!”
The dark alley where light didn’t reach. As the gold coins piled up and started to shine, the emblem on the apron became clearly visible.
The three of them inhaled sharply at the sight of the silver dragon emblem.
“Fl-Flaubert…!”
It was the emblem symbolizing the Flaubert Marquis family. They immediately realized who she was.
While Marquis Ante Flaubert often left his territory, Angelina stayed in the mansion, so it wasn’t too strange that they didn’t recognize her.
But whether their disrespectful behavior could be forgiven for not recognizing her was another matter.
“Pl-Please forgive us…!”
The three immediately bowed their heads.
They knew well through their fellow gang members what would happen if they offended Marquis Ante Flaubert.
They assumed she wouldn’t be much different.
“Forgiveness? Why do you need forgiveness for receiving money that was pickpocketed?”
At Angelina’s words, they were struck with fear. They became even more restless.
They couldn’t admit now that it was a lie, but it was clear that their lie had been exposed.
As they were stuck, unable to do this or that, Angelina sighed deeply and waved her hand.
“Just go.”
At her words, they raised their heads with wide eyes.
Considering the punishment their fellow members had received from the Marquis, they thought at least their tongues would be cut off.
But she’s just letting them go?
Is it a trap? If we leave now, will our ankles be cut off too?
Their heads were spinning.
But Angelina was sincere.
To begin with, such terrifying punishments weren’t even in her mind, and the whole process of scrutinizing their lies to determine a punishment was just bothersome.
So she was just going to let it slide.
Wouldn’t it be enough to just tell the guards later to keep an eye out for such incidents?
“But if you’re caught next time, expect a punishment equal to the weight of the gold coins I dropped today.”
At those words, the thugs’ faces turned even paler.
A punishment of that weight? It seemed like losing their limbs wouldn’t be enough.
“We-We’re sorry!!”
The thugs fled with their tails between their legs at Angelina’s leniency.
Haley huffed at their retreating backs.
“Hmph! You should have at least smacked them before letting them go! They dared to stare at you with such insolent eyes.”
“Is that why you bound them with that spicy air?”
“Ah, you noticed? Hehe.”
Haley, disliking their disrespectful gaze towards Angelina, had been wrapping their faces with subtle poison magic.
It wasn’t enough to endanger their lives, but it was certainly a mischievous spell.
“Don’t overdo it. It’ll make things bigger.”
At Angelina’s remark, Laura, who was nearby, quietly slipped the throwing knives she had pulled out back into her sleeve.
Angelina hadn’t noticed.
“By the way.”
Angelina said, looking at the gold coins scattered messily around.
“I’ve created unnecessary work. Sorry.”
As she returned the magic pouch to Haley, Haley responded brightly.
“It’s no problem!”
As she drew a circle in the air, the gold coins on the ground were sucked into the magic pouch following Haley’s finger.
“This is nothing!”
As Haley easily performed high-level magic, saying that the young lady should do as she pleases, Angelina let out an inaudible gasp of admiration.
She had heard that if Haley hadn’t caused so many accidents during her apprenticeship, she would have been the fastest to be promoted in the magic tower.
But this was the first time she had seen her properly use magic.
‘So that’s why brother was so proud.’
She suddenly remembered her brother who was delighted when he assigned Haley as her guard, saying he had finally found a suitable person.
He had looked cute grinning like that.
Angelina, who chuckled remembering her brother at that time, turned her gaze to the hooded man.
He had been quietly observing the entire situation.
“No matter how frustrated you are, it’s not a good habit to draw blood first.”
She spoke, pointing out that he had tried to draw his sword first.
“You might encounter someone more skilled than you and get into big trouble. It’s better to be careful.”
He must be confident in his skills since he tried to draw his sword without hesitation.
Angelina thought he might be a knight or mercenary from somewhere.
Maybe he wanted to feel like a hero by dealing with the thugs.
But there were many strong people in this world.
‘Unless he’s the Empire’s greatest swordsman, the male lead.’
Even he might not know what would happen if he faced the Magic Tower Master. There was no harm in being careful.
‘Well, it’s irrelevant to a terminally ill person like me.’
Thinking about her fate of dying before meeting such strong people, Angelina felt a bit down.
She comforted herself by tapping the remaining blank checks in her possession.
“Well then, be careful not to run into guys like that next time.”
She turned to leave. She would have left if that man hadn’t stopped her.
“A moment.”
As the voice called out to Angelina, a magic circle faintly activated at Haley’s fingertips, and throwing knives appeared again from Laura’s sleeve.
Of course, Angelina noticed neither.
Angelina put her foot back down and turned to look at him. But even after staring for a while, he said nothing.
“If you have something to say, spit it out. I’m willing to listen to whatever it is.”
Thinking that he was being cautious because he found her intimidating, Angelina told him to feel at ease.
“There’s something I’d like to ask of you.”
“Go ahead.”
“It might seem shameless to ask this of someone I’ve just met, but since our meeting is a twist of fate, I’ll boldly make a request.”
Angelina slightly furrowed her brow at the lengthening preamble.
What kind of request could it be to require such a long-winded introduction?
“What is it.”
At Angelina’s urging to get to the point, he removed the hood he was wearing.
Angelina’s eyebrows raised slightly at the revealed face.
‘He’s handsome.’
His black hair, reminiscent of the darkest night, was somewhat roughly disheveled, and his blue eyes gazing at her were as deep as the ocean. Even sapphire jewels probably wouldn’t be as beautiful as those.
‘Well, not as handsome as brother.’
Although his attractive appearance was enough to captivate one’s heart, Angelina was someone who had grown up looking at Ante all her life.
This was the first time she thought someone other than her brother was handsome, but her admiration didn’t last long.
No matter how much of a world-class beauty the man before her was, in Angelina’s eyes, the true balance-breaking beauty was her dear brother.
