- Chapter 51 - 8. Sword, Rose, Dragon, and
The Tower Master slowly turned his head. “You’ve suddenly become very interested in me?”
Though he spoke with a playful smile, his voice carried sharp magical power. It penetrated Blake’s ears and tore through his insides. Though Blake quickly dispelled it by circulating dark energy through his body, it was enough for him to sense the Tower Master’s hostility.
The Tower Master knew that Blake had roughly figured out the relationship between himself and the Order. After all, he had heard all the conversations between Blake and Angelina in their lodgings. Though it hadn’t been publicized, it was never particularly secret, so it didn’t matter whether people knew or not. But to bring it up so blatantly like this. The disgust and anger he had barely contained rose up again as he recalled Angelina’s kind demeanor towards him. Anyone who messed with his sister needed to be torn apart for him to feel satisfied.
“I just remembered that I wasn’t the first to break through and make a deal with the Tower Master.”
And with that, Blake touched upon the very nerve the Tower Master had been trying to control. The price was steep.
BANG-!
“……!”
An explosive burst of magical power occurred around them. The magic that had been softly lingering around the mine instantly turned into blades. Dozens of sharp edges glared at Blake.
Blake noticed the attack and moved to draw his sword, but he was a beat too late. Though he grabbed his sword, he was surrounded by magical power before he could fully draw it. One wrong move and he would become a honeycomb.
The situation was worse for Sean, who stood nearby. Without time to react, his limbs were bound by magical power, and he couldn’t even breathe properly under its pressure.
“For such a worthless reason.”
The Tower Master’s low murmur also carried strong magical power. It was aggressive enough to split the skull of anyone who heard it. As a result, Sean collapsed with painful groans, clutching his head and choking in agony.
Regardless, the Tower Master’s attention remained focused on Blake.
“If you try anything with that child……”
The magical needle touching Blake’s neck lightly pierced his skin. It penetrated through even the dark energy he had wrapped around himself. Red blood trickled down his neck.
“You’ll make an enemy of the Magic Tower.”
The Tower Master’s eyes gleamed menacingly. Murderous magical power swirled around them. It was a clear threat.
They stared at each other in silence. A quiet battle of wills continued, like spear against shield.
Blake moved his lips and spoke.
“Why do you care so much about that lady……”
He had only probed a little, wondering if there might be something between them, but to get such a reaction. One might mistake the Young Lady Flaubert’s well-being for the Tower Master’s very life.
And though he didn’t expect an answer, surprisingly, the Tower Master spoke.
“Because she’s my friend.”
However, the answer that came out was absurd.
“The only one in the world.”
No sooner had the words ended than a gale-force wind swept through.
“Ugh!”
Faced with the typhoon-like wind, Blake reflexively drew his sword and planted it in the ground. Without doing so, he felt he might be blown away. The typhoon quickly subsided.
In the place where the powerful wind had turned everything into a wasteland in an instant, the Tower Master had also vanished without a trace.
“Your Grace, are you alright?”
“I’m fine. You?”
“I somehow survived as well……”
Sean swallowed hard while his shoulders trembled. When the magical power pressed down, he thought his head would split, and when the wind blew, he thought he would be blown away. He barely endured it. He also knew that he only survived because the Tower Master had shown mercy.
While Sean was breaking out in a cold sweat at the Tower Master’s overwhelming power, Blake was lost in thoughts about Angelina Flaubert. He never expected to hear the word ‘friend’ from the Tower Master’s mouth. This was beyond the level of ‘someone who had already made deals with.’
“……What kind of woman is she.”
He had thought she was just an innocent woman being used by her brother, but now she’s the one and only ‘friend’ of the Tower Master who disregards all nobles.
As the sister of the Empire’s great wealthy family, one would expect her to have seen only the most precious things in life, yet she shows no aversion to monster meat and handles magical beasts as easily as her own limbs.
She doesn’t recognize Artoas, but instantly perceives the problem in Mason’s necklace, and instead of enjoying the peaceful life she could have as a Flaubert, she chooses a precarious life of opposing the Sun God’s Order.
She was truly a woman with endless layers. What was most surprising was that despite all this, she didn’t give off any bad feelings.
Angelina Flaubert.
He wanted to know more about her.
‘The Duke is indeed kind.’
The sudden desire to see her again, was it really just out of curiosity?
Blake habitually felt inside his coat pocket. His fingertips touched the wooden tag of the Flaubert family that he kept there.
A faint smile briefly crossed Blake’s lips. Though he himself didn’t notice it.
8. Sword, Rose, Dragon, and……
“Create a Saint, a fake Saint? What, what kind of damnable talk is this!”
Mason broke the silence that was colored with shock. He even stumbled over his words, so taken aback was he.
“Indeed. It deserves divine punishment.”
Angelina calmly agreed.
But she swallowed the thought that there was no such thing, perhaps because there was no god.
In the original world without gods, it was up to the female and male lead to punish them. Unless there was a big change, that’s how things would flow.
“But the world isn’t a fairy tale. Things like poetic justice don’t happen in reality.”
Angelina informed Mason of the reality, as he seemed to be dreaming of an ideal world.
In a world where gods don’t exist, evil rather thrives, and good becomes cowardly. The winner is strong and the strong survive. Whether it’s good or evil, the world doesn’t care.
But when Mason’s face clouded with despair, Angelina felt a little sorry and added some advice.
“So if you want your own… well, a hopeful future, you need to find a breakthrough that compromises with reality.”
Self-made success? That too was a story possible only in an ideal world.
In reality, no matter how diligently and honestly you work, you end up getting backstabbed by someone you trusted and losing everything.
After clutching his head for a while at Angelina’s words, he suddenly looked up.
“Then, have you found that breakthrough, Lady?”
“Yes.”
…She answered, but her own future wasn’t that hopeful either. Anyway, she had found a compromise with the damn reality of her limited time. At least before dying, she would prevent her brother’s death. Isn’t this enough to be considered finding a breakthrough?
“Is that about stopping those damned people?”
“That’s right.”
Honestly, Angelina didn’t care much about what kind of cursed deeds the Sun God’s Order was plotting. It would be hypocritical to curse them when she had no intention of getting involved. Bystanders are as disgusting as perpetrators, after all.
She just wanted to extract the female lead from getting entangled in it and make her her brother’s friend.
But Angelina skipped this tedious detailed explanation and just answered the conclusion.
“I see……”
But that seemed to have been a mistake.
“So you’ve decided to personally punish the evil that the world turns a blind eye to, Lady.”
“……Huh?”
The conclusion Mason reached was not what she had in mind.
“To fight this lonely battle alone……”
He muttered to himself, and suddenly, as if overcome with emotion, he couldn’t continue speaking.
“Um… I think you’ve misunderstood something.”
I just want to prevent my brother’s death, I’m not interested in punishing evil. I’m a hypocritical bystander who only looks out for my own interests.
Angelina started to speak to correct the misunderstanding, but Mason shook his head vigorously as if he understood everything, then clenched his fists and said,
“I’ll lend my strength too. Whatever I can do!”
His eyes blazed as if he had made a big decision.
“……Hmm.”
At his passionate response, Angelina, who had been about to correct his misunderstanding, closed her mouth. After all, Mason’s help was what she had wanted.
More precisely, she was trying to use Mason to draw in Blake who was behind him.
Bringing Mason into this today, bringing him here and telling him everything, was all for that purpose. If Mason joined, it was only a matter of time before the male lead would join too.
She had been wondering how to get him to dip his toes in, but he came rolling in on his own.
The situation was flowing as she wanted, so was there really a need to clear up the misunderstanding?
Whatever the reason, he was offering to help, so what did it matter? It’s not like he had made such a terribly big misunderstanding anyway.
“If I throw away this necklace, will you believe in my sincerity?”
When Angelina didn’t immediately respond as she was organizing her thoughts, Mason, misinterpreting the ensuing silence, spoke with enthusiasm.
“I was truly foolish to hesitate after hearing advice from someone like you, my Lady. I’ll dispose of this right away.”
“Wasn’t it something precious to you?”
