How to Survive as a Princess in a Reverse Harem Game - Chapter 40
It was a statement that left no room for doubt. I didn’t fail to grasp its meaning, but I was still puzzled about something.
“Guardians need to receive mana to use their abilities, so what about Reno……?”
“Reno is a half-elf Medietas, which allows him to control spirits. Even if he can’t manifest a sword without mana, he can mimic it using the power of the spirits, so he doesn’t necessarily need to receive mana.”
“Then why did Killis say that? He seems to think Reno has a relationship with me.”
“It’s common for royalty to have relationships with their guardians. He might think that way. While I could correct him, Your Highness didn’t feel the need to clarify.”
“…….”
“If Your Highness doesn’t speak, we won’t mention it first.”
“But isn’t Killis my fiancé?”
“No matter how much Duke Yelpen is Your Highness’s fiancé, he has no right to know the details. The significance lies in the fact that the fiancé is likely to become Your Highness’s first national decree.”
I was slightly taken aback by the firm denial.
I thought there were many differences from my common sense, but I didn’t realize that the engagement was treated so lightly.
“If you personally like Reno, just command it. He will willingly follow.”
“What about Reno’s opinion?”
“It’s a natural duty as Your Highness’s guardian.”
“…….”
Just like you, Isaac?
I barely swallowed the question that rose to the tip of my tongue.
“I can convey your wishes if you want.”
“……It’s fine. I just asked out of curiosity. I don’t have any feelings for Reno.”
Reno was more comfortable than Isaac, but that was all. Just because I felt at ease with him like a close acquaintance or friend didn’t mean I could see him as a romantic interest.
For the sake of my goal, having a relationship with just Isaac was enough.
“Do you have more questions?”
“No, I’m fine. I had many questions, but thank you for answering.”
“Of course.”
Then Isaac asked if he could leave, and I told him to go ahead. He bowed and exited the room, just like the first day I saw him.
For some reason, a pang of unease throbbed in my chest.
The next morning, Isaac came to visit me again. I was slightly surprised since I didn’t expect him to come so early.
When I asked why he was here, he said he had come to do his duty as a guardian knight. This was in stark contrast to Reno, who wouldn’t come until I sought him out first.
After that, Isaac stood guard at the door outside the bedroom. At first, I didn’t realize it, but I found out when I stepped out for lunch and ran into him.
“Isaac? Why are you here?”
“I’m on duty.”
“I’m just asking, but…… you haven’t been here since earlier, have you?”
“I have been.”
His response was calm. He seemed so composed that I felt odd for being momentarily flustered by the situation.
“You’ve just been standing there? The whole time?”
“Protecting Your Highness is one of my duties.”
“Isn’t it just when you’re going out?”
Like Reno.
I swallowed the last part. It might come off as a comparison.
“I also guard Her Majesty Evgenia and the other princesses. So please don’t mind.”
I see…….
Not knowing much made it hard for me to speak carelessly about someone else’s affairs, so I nodded in response.
“I’m going to have lunch. Would you like to join me?”
“It would be an honor.”
Isaac readily moved to join me. The dining room within the princess’s palace was smaller than the banquet hall from yesterday, but it was still grand and spacious.
As we waited for the food to arrive, I discreetly stole glances at Isaac. He was sitting across from me, at an angle that allowed him to see me while adhering to the proper decorum.
‘He really is handsome…….’
Beneath his neatly combed black hair, his features were harmoniously defined, as if carved from white marble. Even though his body was concealed beneath his uniform, I could tell it was flawless.
I felt embarrassed by the thoughts that spread unconsciously, prompting me to quickly lower my gaze. However, the silence lingered, and it seemed like my mind was drifting to more odd thoughts.
I should probably talk about something else, but the problem is…….
‘I don’t know what to say.’
