How to Survive as a Princess in a Reverse Harem Game - Chapter 76
Huh?
I turned around to look at Isaac quizzically as he added.
“Someone is running from the direction of Queen Evgenia’s palace. Probably a lady-in-waiting.”
Upon hearing his words, I looked toward Evgenia’s palace.
‘I can’t see anything though?’
As Isaac said, I couldn’t see anyone running. Of course, I didn’t think what he said was a lie.
Based on previous experiences, I knew his hearing ability was beyond the scope of ordinary humans.
‘Besides, he has no reason to lie to me about something like this.’
Still, I couldn’t help but feel amazed.
“You can hear that?”
“Rather than hearing…… it’s closer to intuition.”
Trusting Isaac, I waited for a moment, and just as he said, a figure began to appear in the distance.
The silhouette looked familiar somehow. It didn’t take long for me to realize it was the lady-in-waiting I’d seen earlier.
“……Your Highness Nepheli! Please, wait a moment!”
The lady-in-waiting, who had hurriedly run to where we were, was gasping for air. Without even taking a moment to catch her breath, she clutched her chest and spoke.
“Queen Evgenia wishes to see you, Your Highness.”
“Me? When?”
“She said to bring you immediately, without delay.”
Though I had hoped she’d summon me soon, I hadn’t expected it to be this sudden.
It was a little surprising, but since this was a good thing for me, I promptly headed back to Evgenia’s palace.
* * *
“Come in, Nepheli.”
Evgenia welcomed me to her office. Until now, every time I saw her, she had always seemed elegant and leisurely.
But here in her office…….
‘She looks tired.’
The surroundings lent her an air of intelligence, but more than that, she appeared weary. It was probably because of the piles of documents stacked around her.
“I greet Queen Evgenia. May the light of Lublin…….”
“There’s no need for formalities. Sit down over there.”
She gestured to a sofa. I carefully took a seat, and she settled across from me.
In her hand was a familiar stack of papers—it seemed to be the proposal I had submitted earlier through the lady-in-waiting.
“Thank you for coming so quickly despite the sudden summons.”
“It’s nothing, Your Majesty. I’m glad to see you.”
“You’ve learned how to say things you don’t mean, I see.”
Evgenia laughed softly as she spoke. For a moment, I wanted to protest, That’s not true! I’m truly grateful you called me so quickly! But knowing myself, I swallowed the thought and simply smiled in return.
As if my response didn’t matter much to her, Evgenia immediately shifted her attention to the papers and moved on to the main topic.
“I reviewed it as soon as my maid handed it to me. I was curious to see what choice you’d make.”
So, even though she told me to do as I wished, she’d been planning to observe my decision all along.
Even though the quest had given me a hint in advance, hearing it confirmed directly in front of me felt different.
I waited with a bit of nervousness for what Evgenia had to say. After all, the results of the quest would be decided at this moment.
“And upon reviewing it…… It was truly unexpected.”
Was that a good thing? Or a bad thing?
From her words alone, it was hard to discern her reaction, so I decided to listen quietly. However, instead of giving me a straightforward answer, she seemed more interested in hearing my thoughts.
“Can I ask what made you come up with this idea?”
“It weighed on my mind.”
“Can you explain in more detail?”
She looked intrigued. So far, it seemed positive.
“I wanted to help others, but I wasn’t sure how. I thought the first step would be to observe how people live.”
“So that’s why you requested permission to leave the palace?”
“Yes. I felt that if I went outside and saw how people were living, I’d be able to find an answer.”
“That was a wise decision. There’s nothing better than seeing things for yourself. And what did you do once you were outside?”
“Since I didn’t know much, I wandered around the streets. That’s when I happened to come across a distribution center handing out Hezica medicine.”
Evgenia nodded slightly, gesturing for me to continue.
“The center had a lot of supplies stacked up, but people didn’t seem eager to take them. From the explanation I heard, the medicine sounded beneficial. So, I decided to take some and try it myself—”
“Wait a moment. Have you tried it? Personally?”
A flurry of concerns passed through her expression in a matter of seconds.
Was taking the medicine a mistake? Maybe accepting items from the state treasury had been the problem…….
I was at a loss for words, unsure how to respond, when Evgenia suddenly asked with a serious face.
