How to Survive as a Princess in a Reverse Harem Game - Chapter 83
Though it was possible to awaken one’s internal energy purely through rigorous training of the body and sword, without mana bestowed by royalty, this feat was rarely achieved at a young age. To Reno’s knowledge, Isaac was the only one of their generation to accomplish it.
For most, it was an unattainable goal. Instead, many chose to wield the mana bestowed by royalty as if it were their own aura. It was a shortcut, and countless knights took this path. Why endure the grueling journey when a convenient road lay open?
Meliana’s guardians had followed this method, as had their predecessors.
Yet Reno had never once felt slighted or regretful about not receiving mana.
It wasn’t just because he was born with the rare blessing of controlling spirits, which left him with little need for additional power. Rather, it was because he lacked the pride or ambition commonly associated with knights.
Some claimed that even without mana, the beauty of royalty throughout the generations made the arrangement worthwhile for the physical pleasures alone. Others saw it as a prestigious position since guardians serving Queen Evgenia often had a high chance of advancing to key governmental roles.
But to Reno, none of these supposed advantages held any appeal.
He, too, was half-elf, a race renowned for their striking beauty. Yet mere physical allure was never enough to pique his interest.
The pleasure of physical intimacy? He’d never experienced it, nor had he ever felt the desire to. It didn’t even spark his curiosity.
Becoming a key official? Just the thought of such a position sounded unbearably tedious. Reno had always been content with just enough money and freedom to enjoy a comfortable, carefree life.
For that reason, he felt no pride, ambition, or particular desire as Nepheli’s guardian. He’d only taken the position because of Isaac, so it wasn’t surprising.
At least, that was how it had been. Yet now, inexplicably, he found himself wanting more.
Why?
“……Are you all right?”
“Pardon? You mean me?”
“You may have chosen this role, but it seems like it wasn’t entirely your decision.”
Simply because she thought of him?
“I’m an elf’s Mediatas, after all.”
“And so what? I’m the same as you.”
“Sorry?”
“If I’m a descendant of the Primordial Dragon, doesn’t that make me a Medietas too?”
Was it because she empathized with him?
“Aren’t you trusting me a bit too much?”
“Why wouldn’t I? If I can’t trust my own guardian, who else should I trust?”
Or was it because she trusted him?
In truth, the reason didn’t matter. Reno realized he wanted to grow closer to Nepheli. More specifically, he wanted to be recognized as her guardian.
He didn’t want her to rely solely on Isaac—he wanted her to depend on him too. Just as she called out to Isaac, he wished she would call for him. He hoped she would entrust him with responsibilities, grant him duties.
It was a desire he’d never entertained before. One he never could have imagined having.
“Your Highness.”
“Ugh…….”
“Please forgive my impudence.”
Reno whispered softly as he bent closer. The scent that had been tormenting him since morning grew more intense.
‘Will she forgive me for this, too?’
With deliberate care, he cupped Nepheli’s cheek. Then, he pressed his lips to hers.
“Ha… mhmm~~~~”
As their lips met, the mana that had been trapped within her, unable to escape, surged into him with startling speed.
Every drop that transferred was as sweet and rich as honey, concentrated to perfection. The sweetness was so overwhelming it made his tongue ache, yet instead of feeling cloyed, he found himself wanting more—desperately so.
Reno kissed her clumsily, inexperienced. It was an entirely new world for him. Not just exhilarating, but so wondrous it was almost sacred.
‘This…….’
‘How could I ever resist this…….’
Reno felt as though he now understood why guardians would submit and cling to the royal family. Before, he had never fully grasped it, but now that he did, an insatiable desire stirred within him.
However, before his reason could fully slip away, Reno pulled back from Nepheli. This was an area, a contact, he had not been given permission for.
He had kissed her earlier, citing the excuse that she might not hold on until Isaac arrived, but this was truly as far as he could go.
He wasn’t sure how much mana he had absorbed, but it was surely a significant amount.
‘This should be enough to hold her over until Isaac gets here.’
Just as Reno prepared to pull away completely, Nepheli, who had been drifting in and out of consciousness, grabbed his clothes.
Then, she tugged at him. Despite the strength she put into it, her pull was weak. After a brief attempt, realizing it wasn’t enough, Nepheli sat up.
“Your Highness……? Are you coming to your senses—Ah!”
In an instant, Nepheli wrapped her hand around his cheek and kissed him once again.
