How to Survive as a Princess in a Reverse Harem Game - Chapter 89
What kind of visitor?
I tilted my head, and Isaac gestured toward a spot away from our path, near some cypress trees.
“Someone is over there. It seems to be Her Highness, the Third Princess.”
“Cirilla is here?”
Even after looking in the direction Isaac pointed, I couldn’t quite tell. As I furrowed my brow, something moved behind the trees, and a small face peeked out.
“Yes, Your Highness…….”
It really is Cirilla, isn’t it?
As soon as Cirilla realized that I had spotted her, she quickly hid behind the tree again. She was so small that when she crouched behind the tree, she completely disappeared. If it hadn’t been for Isaac, I might have missed her.
“Isaac, can you check the surroundings for me? It seems Cirilla is secretly trying to meet with me.”
“As you command.”
With Isaac behind me, I made my way toward the tree where the child was hiding.
I had never been the one to seek Cirilla out before. Aside from my desire to treat her well, as she reminded me of Jiyu, there wasn’t really any connection between us.
On top of that, I was under constant surveillance by Morris, so I had to be extra cautious. Cirilla seemed to be aware of this, as she had never come to visit me. The only time she had seen me was when I went out, and she kept an eye on me as a familiar.
‘For her to come to me first…….’
That meant she had something important to say.
I bent down to her level and looked her in the eyes, asking.
“Cirilla, how did you get here? Did you come alone?”
“Yes, I came alone…… I have something to tell you, Your Highness…….”
As expected.
“Why not send a familiar instead of coming yourself?”
“I can’t. If I use magic in the palace, Meliana sister will notice. Then Duke Morris…….”
I didn’t realize that was the reason.
“I understand your situation. So, may I ask what it is you want to tell me?”
“Duke Morris…….”
Cirilla, trembling in fear, fiddled with her fingers before cautiously speaking.
“Duke Morris is trying to copy what Your Highness did.”
“Copy mine?”
“The iron block you made. He said he’s going to do something with it in the House of Futurum. He said he would do it before Your Highness…….”
“Ah, that.”
Just as Reno and Isaac had feared when they saw Cirilla.
‘I never thought he’d try to steal something that even Evgenia was involved in.’
So he really intends to do that. It seems he’s even more cunning and ruthless than I imagined.
Thanks to what Cirilla told me, I could prepare, but at the same time, my heart felt heavy.
I had secretly thought about using Cirilla as an informant, but that wasn’t what I truly hoped for. Even in this situation, Cirilla was still just a child.
She shouldn’t have to take such risks…….
‘I feel ashamed.’
In truth, I had pretended not to know Cirilla’s situation in front of Evgenia because my own circumstances were difficult.
“Thank you for being brave. If it weren’t for you, I wouldn’t have known.”
“But because of me, Duke Morris found out.”
“It couldn’t be helped. It’s okay.”
I gently patted Cirilla’s head, still trembling in anxiety. As I did, I could tell. She was truly small, still a child.
“You told Duke Morris what you said before, right?”
“Yes, I just told him that Your Highness is making a lump of metal…….”
“That’s fine. You did well. I’ll handle things with Duke Morris.”
The way the child looked up at me seemed to ask, ‘How?’
But I couldn’t tell her. I trusted Cirilla, but there was always the risk that the information might slip out.
They say if you’re going to deceive an enemy, you should deceive your allies first.
Though Cirilla was still close to being an enemy, I didn’t consider her as one. In fact, I wanted to repay the trust she had in me.
“So don’t worry. Just go back before anyone notices. Got it?”
“……Yes.”
Cirilla reluctantly nodded. Though she answered, she looked up at me as if unsure if that was really okay.
Seeing her face, so hunched and tense, something came to mind.
“By the way, Cirilla.”
“Yes?”
