How to Tame That Gentle Male Lead - Chapter 1.8
It seemed there hadn’t been enough time to hide the clothes. The dressing room was full, just as she had seen before. Resena also went into the bathroom attached to her room and gathered soap, bath products, and shampoo, then put clothes on top of a 3-tier trolley she brought.
After going back and forth between the vault and her room several times, her legs ached and she was tired. But forcing herself to gather strength, she swept up comfortable clothes from the dressing room, books, paper, and fountain pens, and only then sat on the bed.
“Even if I do all this if the male lead uses his instant death skill, the vault and I will turn to dust…”
I hope all this trouble was worth it.
Lying down on the simple bed in the vault, Resena closed her eyes. Judging by the sunset she saw when she last moved her belongings, it should be around 6 PM. Looking at the pocket watch she brought from her room, it was well past 8 PM.
‘I’m tired…’
Resena fell asleep instantly. In the quiet mansion, only silence settled, with no sound to be heard.
***
“Haa…”
It was already the seventh day, and there had been no intruders in the mansion.
Though monsters made squeaking noises outside the mansion, they didn’t seem to sense human presence and didn’t invade inside. Most of them just passed by, so Resena ate the stored food regularly while waiting for Renard to return to the mansion.
‘That guy should have a key to the vault too…’
It was also the only key to confronting the male lead who had gone crazy, threatening to destroy the world. Since they were both Sword Masters, wouldn’t it be somewhat advantageous if he gathered some comrades to face the male lead?
‘Ah, of course, since Eldis could use magic too, facing him alone would be truly insane.’
Resena knew that magicians from the magic tower had also joined the Monster Wave expedition. Since the Monster Wave was the battlefield Eldis had frequented most before turning evil, she thought that if he gathered many comrades from there and returned, they might be able to catch the rampaging male lead.
‘…But is it still dangerous? If he could cause world destruction, it means they couldn’t match him no matter how many opposed him.’
She put down the sandwich she was eating. As more than 7 days had passed, things like bread were getting hard, making her teeth suffer. But it was still much better than that thin soup and black bread she ate in prison.
After gobbling it down, Resena pondered for a moment. It would be good to wait for Renard to return like this, but she thought she should go out and check how the situation was developing.
“If there was a magical item that could see far away, I wouldn’t have to leave the mansion.”
Monsters might be roaming around eating people.
Wouldn’t it be dangerous to go out like this?
‘I don’t even have any means to protect myself… What should I do?’
After contemplating, Resena decided to go to the highest point of the mansion and at least see from afar how the half-destroyed city was faring.
Although built on vast land, the Arnasus mansion was a grand mansion in the center of the Imperial City. If she went up to the 5th-floor attic, high enough that the collapsed walls wouldn’t obstruct the view, she thought she could roughly see what was happening.
“Right. Let’s try moving first…”
It was better to do what she could during this time before monsters came. Even if someone asked for help, she wouldn’t be able to assist… But at least she’d know if monsters were gathering in that direction, and she could hide in the vault and wait for them to pass.
“Phew… Let’s do this!”
She left the vault.
Carefully examining the corridor, she went up to the 5th floor without making a sound.
Fortunately, there didn’t seem to be any intruders in the mansion. Although there was no characteristic sound of monsters, Resena moved cautiously, observing front and back, and sometimes the ceiling.
“…That’s a relief. No one was here. And…”
In the attic, there was a telescope, as if someone had left it there. Though she was overjoyed at the thought of being able to properly observe the city, Resena just quietly clenched her fist.
First, she looked at the city through the window.
“Haa…”
The bare city on a cold winter day looked truly pitiful. More than half of the buildings beyond the walls had collapsed, and the streets were so empty that not even an ant could be found. The sight of what looked like giant slimes crawling and squirming around was enough to give her goosebumps.
Resena suddenly realized that she was witnessing the fall of the Empire. Her hand holding the telescope trembled slightly, but when she brought her eye to the lens, the distant scenery unfolded before her.
“…”
She could see people fighting with swords on the rooftop of a building. One had red hair and the other had silver hair, and Resena was deeply surprised to see that monsters were surrounding the two, watching them fight.
‘What… The monsters aren’t attacking. Could it be…?’
Prince Eldis had silver hair too. And she remembered that one of the Empire’s five Sword Masters had red hair. Could it be… Are they trying to bring the insane male lead back to his senses? Or have they challenged him to a one-on-one duel to prevent him from opening more Monster Gates?
“Either way, it’s really an amazing act…”
From boldly challenging the male lead who controls monsters to a one-on-one duel, really.
But unfortunately, the red-haired one was being pushed back. Though gritting his teeth and forcibly squeezing out strength to clash, the silver-haired one deflected the attack, spun around once, and then swung his sword, deeply slashing the red-haired one’s chest.
“…!”
Blood splattered instantly. Though she felt she couldn’t watch anymore, curious about how it would end, Resena held onto the telescope with trembling hands.
The red-haired one was on his knees. Too weak to hold his sword, he supported himself with the sword stuck in the ground while looking at the silver-haired one. The silver-haired one looked at him and then turned away.
And then the monsters rushed at the red-haired one.
‘I can’t watch anymore.’
Resena’s heart felt as cold as if frost had settled inside after witnessing the sacrifice of an innocent Sword Master. She was determined to never let Renard face Eldis without comrades, even if he returned.
At the same time, she became anxious. If even such a skilled fighter was defeated like that, could Renard properly face him even if he gained comrades?
Moreover, monsters always accompanied Eldis.
As if knowing he was the one who opened the Monster Gate, they all followed him as their leader, each one grotesque and hideous.
“…”
Though she repeated ‘It will be okay’ to her anxiously trembling heart…
Resena couldn’t bear it and closed her eyes. The telescope rolled from her shaking hands, but thanks to the attached strap, it avoided hitting the floor.
Slowly putting down the telescope, Resena took a deep breath. She hated how fear was consuming her entire body. Somehow she had survived until now, so she would have to struggle for survival in the future too.
“Let’s go back to the vault…”
And when there are no monsters, come to this 5th-floor attic like this to observe the city. Who knows? Since the monsters follow the male lead, if he leaves the Imperial City, maybe the monsters will follow him and leave too.
“…..”
Her steps back to the vault were heavy. Resena feared she might give up on everything, feeling like she had lost hope. She wanted to survive somehow, meet Renard, and escape from the male lead who was destroying the world.
“It’s okay, Resena. Let’s be strong.”
It will be alright.
