Of course, it’s known that rumors can last only a month, but it was still strange that someone who had come to the Republic of Ortensia to avoid being recognized was consistently buying foreign newspapers. By now, the shop owner selling the newspapers must have found Isaac quite curious.
‘Well, that doesn’t matter much anymore.’
With the war over, there wasn’t much reason to be interested in news from the Sortenic Empire. Ivonne focused on packing her things. Although her time with Isaac in the farmhouse had been short, she had brought a lot of supplies, worried about how long the war might last.
Now, as she packed, her bags were overflowing.
‘When will I find time to organize all this? The house must be pretty dusty by now…’
The thought of cleaning felt overwhelming. Yet, if she didn’t, Rix would surely find it odd. She didn’t want to cause unnecessary worry, so if she was going to do it, she had to do it thoroughly.
‘Ugh.’
Just as Ivonne sighed, Isaac returned, shaking his wet hair.
“I’ve heated up some more water.”
“Oh, thank you. But it’s okay. I can wash up at home.”
Ivonne gestured to her piled-up belongings.
“I bought a foreign newspaper earlier, and it said the war is over. So I was planning to head home—”
“You bought a newspaper? When?”
Isaac interrupted eagerly, cutting off Ivonne’s words. She blinked in surprise.
“Uh, when you were taking a bath?”
“…”
Isaac fell silent. The way his jaw tightened made her wonder if he was gritting his teeth, but that seemed like her imagination. He appeared to be angry for some reason.
That couldn’t be, though.
Eventually, Isaac spoke.
“Well then… go later. I’ve prepared something for dinner.”
“Oh, really? Sounds good to me.”
Isaac’s voice was cautious, as if he was throwing down a challenge, but Ivonne didn’t think much of it. She planned to leave today to organize things, so having dinner first was fine.
After all, she needed to be at the Tens Mansion on time to communicate with Rix this evening, so she could move her things then.
However, this was Ivonne’s overconfidence.
After washing up, she enjoyed a pleasant meal with Isaac, savoring the cream stew and beef stew he had prepared.
“It’s a shame you’re leaving tomorrow.”
“Well, I’ll visit sometimes when Rix is at work.”
“But it won’t be like these past few days, seeing you every day. It’s a pity, really.”
“If you need anything, just let me know in advance. I’ll bring it with me when I visit. Now that the war’s over, the transparent magic crystal mining should resume. Then, hmm… I can help you settle down here. You can’t stay hidden here forever, right?”
“A settled life… I wouldn’t mind it. But are you sure, Junior? What if someone finds out?”
“I’ll make sure not to get caught. You were unjustly framed by the Crown Prince, after all. I want to help.”
Isaac smiled softly at Ivonne’s determined words.
“Alright, then. Today can mark the point where you return to your life, and I begin a new one. I happen to have some wine left over from cooking, shall we make a toast?”
“Oh, that sounds nice!”
Isaac gave her a gentle smile in return and headed to the kitchen. The wine he had bought for cooking was cheap and lacking in flavor, but that didn’t matter—it wasn’t meant to elevate the meal, anyway.
Isaac glanced at Ivonne as she cut into the beef stew with a knife and fork before placing his hand over her wine glass. From his pale hand, a misty dark green glow flowed into the glass, mixing seamlessly with the deep red wine.
“There you go.”
Isaac said, tapping the glass playfully with his fingers and handing it to Ivonne with an innocent expression.
“Um, thanks.”
Ivonne replied, covering her mouth as she chewed on a bite of stew. Without a second thought, she took a sip of the wine. Isaac had handed her drinks during meals many times before, so she didn’t suspect anything unusual this time either.
By the time the cheerful dinner came to a close, thanks to Isaac’s lively conversation, Ivonne felt a bit off.
“Ugh… was the wine stronger than I thought…?”
After finishing the glass of wine that Isaac had handed her, Ivonne was suddenly hit with a wave of dizziness. As she gripped the table and stood up, the world spun violently around her.
“Oh…”
And with that, Ivonne collapsed.
“Junior! Stay with me!”
Isaac’s concerned voice echoed faintly in her ears.
“Damn it, I need a doctor…!”
Just as her vision began to fade, the last thing she saw was Isaac’s lips curling.
Into a dark, satisfied smile.

“Ugh…”
So thirsty. The intense dryness in her throat caused Ivonne to open her eyes. She immediately recognized the ceiling above her—familiar old beams with cobwebs clinging to the corners.
‘This is… the farmhouse?’
Indeed, she had woken up in the very farmhouse where she had been staying with Isaac. As her eyes fluttered open sluggishly, the throbbing pain in her head surged, much like waking from anesthesia to a flood of sensation.
With a grimace, Ivonne tried to piece together why she was lying there, how she had ended up in this bed, and how long she had been there.
