‘There was no sign of Ameline near the artificial forest, as Berthe mentioned.’
Fortunately, the ‘Snow Fairy’ couldn’t teleport, and Ivonne was able to find a small trace left behind. She followed it here, all the way to a dense coniferous forest, far from the capital, but Ameline was nowhere to be found.
The sun had already risen high in the sky, and Ivonne’s heart raced.
‘Please, let nothing happen to her.’
She desperately hoped that if God exists, to hear her plea.
After searching the forest for about thirty minutes, combing every inch of the dense pine trees that still retained their green even in the dead of winter…
“…!”
Finally, Ivonne’s eyes landed on the one she had been desperately searching for.
“There she is, Ameline!”
Ivonne flew toward the spot where Ameline lay. The sharp wind left a scratch on her cheek, but nothing could stop her from landing hard, barely managing to stop herself from falling.
‘Lying out here in the middle of the cold snowfield!’
Ameline’s condition looked bad from the start. Ivonne quickly rushed to her, pulling the seemingly lifeless Ameline into her arms.
‘She’s freezing.’
Her heart sank. She urgently shook Ameline’s shoulders.
“Ameline! Please wake up, Ameline!”
“Ugh… mm…”
Fortunately, Ameline regained consciousness almost immediately.
“Miss Maid…?”
Her eyelids fluttered, covered in clumped snowflakes, and her lips were a pale, distressed blue. Ivonne quickly removed the cardigan she was wearing, which had a warmth magic on it, and draped it over Ameline.
“Yes, it’s me. I’m here.”
Ameline managed a faint smile before her face contorted in pain.
“I… didn’t get… the sugar from the snow fairy…”
Her voice trembled, fragile like a flickering candle, as if it might go out at any moment. There were so many things Ivonne wanted to say—why did Ameline do such a reckless thing? Why didn’t she tell the adults?
But the only words that came out of Ivonne’s mouth were a quiet prayer.
“Thank you, God…”
She felt like she would offer anything to a God if it existed, just to have Ameline safe. Ameline, watching Ivonne cry softly, reached out her cold hand and gently wiped her cheek.
“It’s… cold…”
“Yes, it is… let’s go home. Let’s go somewhere warm.”
Ivonne held Ameline tightly and teleported them straight to Tens Mansion, without any time to check if the snow fairy was nearby.
A moment later, a pale figure approached the spot where Ivonne and Ameline had been, kneeling down on one knee. In the indentation left behind by their weight, warmth seemed to radiate.
The owner of the hand that brushed over the spot Ivonne had briefly sat on muttered softly.
“Now, all that’s left is to wait.”
A quiet chuckle echoed through the winter forest.

- Emotions make people foolish.
Due to the barrier magic set by Herix, Ivonne teleported not to Tens Mansion but outside, into the garden. She could have teleported to the bedroom directly, near the window, but since Ameline was on her back, she didn’t want to take any reckless chances.
Ivonne burst through the front door of Tens Mansion and shouted.
“Mary! Mary! Get some warm water immediately! I found Ameline, but…”
But she couldn’t finish her sentence.
“What is this…?”
Ivonne’s mouth fell open in disbelief.
Until just a moment ago, Tens Mansion was a cozy, peaceful home. When you opened the front door, there was a hallway leading to a storage room or bathroom. At the end of the long hallway was a central door, beyond which was the living room.
The living room had an open door leading to the kitchen, stairs to the second floor, and a large glass door leading to the terrace.
But now, the scene before her was completely different.
‘Where’s the hallway…?’
The storage room? The bathroom? …The living room?!
There was nothing. Only the wall where the front door was, standing firm. The other three sides were wide open. It looked like a set from a drama, where only the door had been built.
Thankfully, there was one thing that remained intact: Ivonne subconsciously shifted her gaze to one corner. There, a staircase leading to the second floor—where Ivonne and Herix’s bedroom was—still stood. Surprisingly, the staircase was the only thing left intact in the house, as if the second floor and the ceiling were untouched.
“This… what is this…?”
Whoosh, a sharp wind, carrying ice crystals from the storm that had subsided, blew in. Despite having entered the house through the front door, the harsh wind exposed her to the cold. But there was no time to think.
“…Where’s Berthe?!”
Ivonne was worried for Berthe, who should have been sleeping on the sofa in the living room, grew. She hurried to where the sofa had presumably been, but there was nothing there.
“Mary? Butler? Havers? Berthe!”
Ivonne called out loudly, but there was no quick response like usual, nor even a sign of anyone. She called out again and again, but no one answered.
Behind her, Ameline shifted slightly on Ivonne’s back.
“Ugh…”
Her body, which had been so cold earlier, was now burning with fever. If she stayed like this, she would be terribly ill. Looking suspiciously at the house, which now only had the front door and the staircase left, Ivonne quickly turned around.
